- Part nine of our Victorian High Country. We leave our camp at Howitts Hut and head towards Licola via the Caledonia River Track and Dingo Hill Track. By far the most challenging track on this trip, lots of mud, river crossings and steep hills.

Great stuff Tyler! I rolled my Disco 2 on Dingo Hill, you filmed the section where we went over at 21:21min on your story... tail shaft hand brake doesn't work when its ripped out AHHHH!!!
Great video and a cool little helper on camera 🎥
Great video mate
Great filming. Must take a long time and alot of effort to put that together. No need to test the bog holes, in most of the VHC really. Usually firm base and not that deep, look worse than they are. Now for the less positive stuff, the Navara does not look capable at all 🤨 good job getting it up dingo hill tk
I took the same path back in '98 with my 4WD L300. A tough trail. I'd be lying if I didn't admit I was shitting myself going down that butcher country trail to the river, but we came through unscathed. I was travelling a friend with a landrover 110. The landi hit a submerged rock and bent a 30mm steering arm into a big 'vee', giving it about 200mm of 'toe-in' on the front tyres. We had to remove it and do a field straighten over a hot fire. I remember it pissing down during the Dingo Hill climb too. Tough haul, but I was glad to reach the top under my own steam. Another great video Tyler. Again, the aerial shots of the switchbacks shows how tough it really is out there. Awesome.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching! Sure was an interesting drive through there, sounds like you had it tough. They've graded those tracks through recently I've been told so all pretty easy at the moment
I just did the Caledonia track this week thanks to you.. and I heard its been graded so there is NO bog holes anymore. I drove it from top to butcher link track. Great valley awesome drive. Thanks.
Would be a completely different track now they've graded it! Glad you enjoyed it mate
Yes it was easy (once in the valley) and a really easy drive. Very pretty. Graveled 2 tyre track through the trees and green grass.
Hey champ, what time of year was this? Great video, 👌👌
January mate 👌
@@TylerThompson90 thanks mate, heading up there this weekend 👍 Zeka Spur, Caledonia track, and a few others. Found your video to be very helpful in relation to track analysis, keep up the good videos! Subscribed 👌
Hey mate, been watching some of the old stuff and amazed at the adventures you had with Kai in VHC on a pretty standard vehicle. Good stuff mate, this lockdown has made me appreciate the outdoors even more now, can't wait to get out to the VHC once Andrews let's us back out. Cheers.
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
How lucky that you can do this stuff with your son 👌 great vid
Great video mate :)
Nice to see even without lockers and ifs you can still get out in it. Malakai will remember these trips...
Yeah you can still get most places in the more basic 4wds which is awesome mate. He loves getting out camping! :)
Love the vids mate. Great High Country Tracks. Well done
Thanks mate!
Couple of nice challenging tracks to finish off with. Thanks again for a great series. Looks like u guys had a fun time

Thanks mate! Was an amazing trip :)
Your doing pretty good considering your travelling solo car, well done 👍👍
as usual u found a great camp spot, so envious of the bush camps over there 😡😡
Fantastic clip, i enjoyed it, well done.
Thanks mate!
Thanks for the new episode mate. Harder tracks on this one. Nice work.
Thank you!
Great video 📹 bro, nice trails indeed,
Thank you!
WOw the clouds with the lightning at the start was amazing
Was pretty spectacular!
I was up there during that storm shooting away, absolutely amazing except it flooded our camp out!
Your vid come up in my feed, good stuff!
yeah mate amazing, you got flooded unlucky bro, still im sure it was worth it lol, my vid? really, nice thanks tyler i appreciate it
Well done doing some fairly tough tracks solo in a pretty standard Navara
Hi Mate, I’m sorting out a route for a November enduro ride through the area and I’ve locked in Caledonia RT after watching this. Should be fun on the bikes. Have you done Butcher Country Track by any chance?
Hey mate, that should be awesome! Nope haven't done Butcher Country Track, keen to do it in the future. From what I've heard its similar, maybe a little easier
Tyler Thompson cheers legend. Yeah pretty pumped. We’re doing Harrietville - Licola day one, Licola - Dargo day two, Dargo - Harrietville day three. Let me know if there’s any other must do tracks you can think of on that route 👍🏻👍🏻. How old is your young fella? I’ve got an 8 month old son and can’t wait to drag him along, got a while to go yet haha.
Well all the ones I did on this series is the ones I know of haha, this was our first proper trip through the VHC. But it seemed that pretty much any track we took turned out to be a good one haha. He was 6 when we did this trip, he first started camping around 3-4 :)
Tyler Thompson thanks mate - great age to get him into it 👍🏻
Tyler Thompson mate, spoke to the rangers and they have fully graded Caledonia and butcher country, he says you can now get a Subaru through either of them! Spewing, I will have to find a new route!! Looks like you did it at the right time 👍🏻
Really enjoy this one Tyler, keep em coming brother 👌
Thanks mate!
g'day mate, loving the videos you are making, just wondering how modified your 4wd would have to be to tackle these tracks? like suspension rear bar etc? cheers
Hey mate, for the tracks on this video probably would want similar set up to mine at a minimum but really depends how much experience you have/confidence. But yeah probably 2 inch lift and 31- 33inch tyres. And then bar work is always good to protect your car, bullbar, rear bar, rock sliders and bash plates
Tyler Thompson thanks for the reply mate. I've got a bit of saving up to do lol. Keep the awsome videos coming cheers 👍
Ricky don't underestimate these tracks mate , if they are wet they can become impassable , make sure you have recovery gear and know how to use it . A mate of mine who was a very experienced driver died in the hc 6 weeks ago from a slippery track .
so when you have your rear locker on in 4L and when your front slips, does the system default to only rear wheel drive thereafter????
My car doesn't have a rear locker mate so I'm not sure how that works with the locker
Great video man, do you think I could get a camper trailer along the track? Planning on heading that way in a couple weeks (Early April).
Cheers mate, I've never towed a camper trailer so don't have much experience in that area. They have graded this track since the video so it is much easier now, so should be okay as long as you are okay with steep hills, river crossings etc
Doesn't that Nissan have a rear locker as standard equipment?
Not on the base model mate, the RX, which is what I have. Only rear LSD. The mid and top model have rear locker standard
That LSD wasn't doing very much thru that bog hole.
awesome vids mate..the playlist is stacked for hours. just wondering2 inch lift with 32 tyres?. hows the navara treating ya these days?. im looking to grab the stx
You produce some nice videos. I am just wondering what make of drone you have and would you recommend it?
Thanks! I use the DJI Mavic Pro, great drone, highly recommend it. There is the new Mavic Air out now but, possibly a better option.
Thanks for the reply, I have just bought a Kaiser Baas Delta to use with my GoPro. A little bit cheaper than the Mavic but once I learn how to pilot it I will look at upgrading.
Mate.. probably my favorite one so far! Keen to see the new vic trip 👍
Quick question. Would you say most of these tracks are as steep as Jimmy's lookout track, or steeper?
Thanks! Nearly finished the first episode of the new vic trip :). Yeah most of these tracks are a bit steeper then the one up to the lookout on the Mann River and obviously rougher too
Awesome! Yea that's pretty steep! Haha. I plan to get down there one day
Hey Tyler really enjoyed watching this trip... what drone are you using?
Never mind i see soneone else already asked, cheers!
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching :)
Hi Tyler.great videos.is there factory suspension or you upgraded? Thanks
Thanks mate. I have upgraded suspension, its a 30mm tough dog lift, new coils and shocks.
Loving your work buddy. 👍. You’ve given me a few ideas for my own videos. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback!
Hey Tyler I've got an np300 myself. I've noticed in 4wd a ticking sound when driving from the front wheel area and heard the same noise at the start of your video. Do you know what it is or have you just kept on driving. Cheers man
Hey mate, yeah mine seems to have been making that ticking noise on and off since the early days of having it. Doesn't seem to be an issue, just a noise it makes a bit
awesome videos mate. so looking forward to going back down again in November. how long did you spend down there on this trip? do you have an electronic map with the tracks you went on (hema ect)
Thank you! We were gone for 15 days on this trip, we were in the actual high country area for about a week. Na I don't sorry mate, I used the VMS but didn't record where we went or anything
looks epic mate your living the dream and the little tacker is a pisser. how long do you reckon it took to do the 2 tracks cheers mate
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed! Was probably about 6-7 hours but thats including the filming, couple of swim stops and lunch :)
I like how you get out there, but you really shouldn't be out there alone. At least one other car is a good idea.
Especially with a young tacka
