My ex out of the blue contacted me this morning after I finally was able to move on from them. No contact works. I'm in a better place all together, and you helped me everyday get through it.
The best thing to do is give them the break up. This may sound terrible, but pretend they passed. They have completely left the picture. Mourn and move on. If they are meant to be in your life, they will be.

Me and my ex of 7 years broke up three weeks ago. I figured out that she began messaging another guy a month before we broke up. Nothing huge but she still reached out. Then when I found out I moved out and went to stay at a friend’s house. There was some back for two weeks but she was telling me she wants to move on even though she still has feelings for me. She told me to be in no contact for 30 days and I agreed. It’s been a week. I still want her back but I am not sure if this still has a chance. Another complicating factor is that I moved to another country for her and if I decide to give it up I will need to give it up forever and move back home. I want to give a few more months to this to see if this is recoverable.

She did next to no improvement on herself or her lifestyle; Even while we were apart, I was working my ass off to try and get through the breakup doing all the self help guides and meditations to help my anxiety post breakup. she was out partying and doing things she never normally did during the relationship however. That just ruined the little attraction and feelings i still had left for her after all that time. I really looked and saw her for who she is and thats when i knew i could do better for myself. I just text my ex the other day saying I need my stuff back and it's time to move on with my life but I may have reversed it all when he called and I confronted him on why he wanted to continue the break up. He is an alcoholic. He got sober we had 0 arguments during those sober months Then one night he thought he could handle a beer. Beer turned into a bottle of whiskey a day again for the past month and a half so old him is back. We are a mess again. The day he called me he was sober for the first time in the past month. I thought he would change his mind if he sobered up but he apparently had not which set me off on the phone. He said he'd call me yesterday but he didn't and I didn't not call him. He has my stuff h0stage and I believe that's because he isn't sure about the break up or he would of gave it back by now. I've told him he can just leave the stuff outside I'd run by or I could have him leave it in my car while I'm at the store. I won't give him my address, he's been to my house but he has only lived in my state for a year and wouldn't know how to get here since he's still unfamiliar. He's upset because I won't let him meet my kids and it's been a year. I told him he needs to be sober for a long period of time because his drinking behavior is foreign to my kids and I won't let them see that type of behavior. He thinks he should just be step daddy automatically just because we are together and it's been long enough but a long relationship is invalid if he's drinking and we are arguing during that time. It feels like we are going in circles because he claims the way I make him feel (invalid because he can't meet the kids) makes him drink and him drinking makes me not want him to meet my kids.
I drank during the first 2 years of a relationship, it did a lot of damage, I had a divine intervention and I stopped drinking it’s been like almost two years , I feel bad for anyone* who has to date someone like me when I drank,
