Same story with me. I first heard of him while reading an online article about people who had performed remarkable feats. There was a story about a one armed man who had rowed a boat across the Atlantic Ocean, one about a stair climber - a guy who climbs the equivalent of mount Everest every day, a lady with vision so keen she can read a newspaper a kilometer away, and one about this guitar player who had hundreds of albums. I thought about that. People who have been in the music industry since forever: Tony Bennet, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Sting… they don’t have 500 hundred albums among the lot. But… you can fart into a microphone and call it an album. So I looked up Buckethead. Yup. “Soothsayer” was the 1st one I clicked on. Yeah… this was no fart in a microphone. This was unreal. I live in Canada and I have only met one other person (a co-worker) who knows of Buckethead. His relative lack of fame blows my mind. If I ever speak of him I try not to come off like some sort of culty evangelist preacher - I try to just put on a song and let it speak for itself. All that said… do you have a favorite yet?
I just saw him for the first time last week and he did this as his encore. He has been a favorite of mine since I was 12 (I'm almost 33 now) and this is my favorite song so it's no surprise he had me tearing up. He is truly one of the greatest guitarists ever and seeing him live puts you in this trance.
