As a gud soul gamer even I have to agree with you. This Radahn and Malenia both are the hardest thing I've ever fight in Fromsoft games SS Isshin comes close too but still nothing compared to these 2.😅

Learning the timing to dodge their attacks was insanity
Maybe hot take, but this boss isn't unfair, just hard to the point of insanity due to how he'll constantly crush you with pressure and the way his moves often leave you with very few and narrow escape routes. It's a boss that stretches the very concept of hard-but-fair to its utmost limits but without actually breaching those limits, that's my opinion after taking about 4 hours to beat this fight
@@A123ftw yea which is why I found this boss more fun than infuriating. They have one move that is dam near unavoidable unless you’re in the perfect position already but other than that I think the boss is amazing.
@@A123ftw A fundamental flaw of having hyper aggressive bosses and poor combat system to match, It short combo strings are too long and your window to deal damage is too small, if you had a way to proactively counter his attacks it would be a none issue.

Funnily enough, game files indicate he had a similar line planned initially.

He never speaks, only Miquella does, and my theory is that the red glow from Radahn during the phase change is him trying to break free. After all, Radahn refused him before and Miquella had him killed to get to this point.

And it makes a lot of sense that Radahn needs to die in a great battle for his spirit to go to the Shadow Realm. Its in their believe. He also gets to be Elden Lord like he wanted

They stepped up their game with this DLC soundtrack. Thats already a near impossible thing to do with their standard.
To content with the likes of Godskin Duo, Radagon/Elden Beast, and Maliketh to name a few of my favorites, but definitely not exhaustive. I could actually write to this track
No somber osts like sif or Gwen's. I love the epic orchestrals, but I really miss the old somber osts. That one healer boss from demon souls is another one

@@Solidsnake856Maiden astrea hits brutally hard, it's that moment where you realize that you're the monster, same with sif especially if he recognizes you. Orphan of kos is another one. Aldia and gwyndolins theme are also very nice. I wish there was a simple yet impactful boss ost like gwyn in elden ring, at least we got marikas theme in the shaman village.

This is probably one of the best boss OSTs I’ve ever heard in all of souls-like (Usually included the souls series in the category). But yea, the 2nd Phase theme is just stellar, as if you’re fighting a literal god in an epic finale.

I was disappointed by a lot of the tracks for the Original Elden ring bosses, but they really raised the bar for the DLC. Some of the best work they've done since Bloodborne, possibly better. I was in complete awe

@@Jackenack fully agreed, the final boss (both radagon and elden beast) themes are absolute standouts and the ost is enjoyable but there's not that much good stuff. but nearly EVERY song is an absolute banger in the dlc, and all have really unique feels and melodies (even including the exploration themes, which i did enjoy in the base game a lot as well)

To me this Radahn doesnt feel like Prime Radahn, this is the young lion Radahn. Not to mention that as far as i know Radahn wasnt himself, most likely controlled by Miquella. Starscourge Radahn is supposed to be the strongest Radahn.

There is so much emotion in one track it’s amazing I know this dlc wasn’t as well received as I thought it was but that isn’t stopping me from enjoying it. It's because for once, Fromsoft made music that was hopeful. Miquella would have been a god of a new age, built on love (From this point on, love encompasses all) and acceptance of all exactly as they are (No living being will be denied, no deed censured)
Unfortunately, this Unalloyed Miquella from the base game was cut and then the DLC ends suddenly after an obligatory boss fight.

This track surprised me coming from a FROM game. It's very upbeat, very heroic, very cathartic. It has that military vibe with the precussion, as fits Radahn, and when Miquella comes in, it sometimes even sounds a bit Christmas-y . Never ended a FROM game on a high note before.
Have you listened to the base game radahn track before? This is still mostly mostly that track so not new for From. Unless you mean phase two specifically

Likewise, the ones truly on the side of Malenia, beyond furious at Miquella, for manipulating her this WHOLE TIME, want to curb-stomp him BAD! In my imagination, this is how it could go! The Tarnished summons Varre, he sees what was done to Mohg, by Miquella, he quickly leaves, but, upon returning, has a whole frickin' army of Sanguine Nobles, those red Albnaurics, and who knows what else, right behind him, via massive blood portal, Varre just simply says:' For Lord Mohg, FOR THE DYNASTY!' The Tarnished summons Jerren, HORRORFIED of what his dear friend, was made into, does the same as Varre, but through a Gravity Gateway, returns with every Redmane he could find, Alabaster and Onyx Lords, and Jerren states:'' We are here to help give Radahn the TRUE rest he DESERVES!' (OH! Jerren brings with him the remainder of Malenia's loyalists, and we can imagine what THEY would have done to Miquella!) (Sorry, I forgot, ANY Pureblood Knights, loyal to Mohg, even now, want to RIP Miquella apart as well!) Then all three of those brought to the Land of Shadow, all CHARGE at once, (with The Tarnished), to put to an end, this TRAVESTY!)

If he was summonable for the Final Boss fight, he leave, you thinking he pulled a "Patches", but, he comes back, with EVERY Sanguine Noble he could find, Red Albinauric's, Blood Crows, who and WHATEVER, also, ANY remaining Pureblood Knights! This fight has grown on me. Still conflicted but leaning positive and this track is helping immensely
Same here. I still think the second phase has waaaaayyyy too many holy lasers and clone/fake teleport attacks, though.
@@andreiriboli The teleport attacks actually have fair dodge timings imo, the problem for me was that they would cause a small drop in frame rate. Now that I've had a couple weeks to let the fight sink in, my only gripes with the boss is the hoy lasers and that one double swipe attack that always nicks you unless you get lucky.
My only other criticism, and this goes for several other bosses in all soulslike games, is that he's too fast to allow the usage of spells/incantations/ashes of war. Sometimes only hitting them with a light attack or two for every opening can make a fight monotonous.
Anyways, this OST is the best piece of music ever written for a videogame, and makes me appreciate the fight regardless of its shortcomings.

Love how well this "villain" is made too. The music and atmosphere of the 2nd phase makes us feel like we're that one final boss about to be slain by a hero who just became op with love and friendship.

@@FantomMisfit He's just a morally grey character trying to find a way to save a land that cannot be saved. Besides, his charm doesn't work on entire populations at once and we don't even know if he charmed Radahn and Malenia. The Lands Between are just dying and everyone's trying to find a solution. Miquella's would just be a dictatorship but it's not that terrible compared to other endings like Ranni's (ok everyone is free but 90% of the population are bloodthirsty and op psychos who won't hesitate to commit a rampage).

He may have started off with a genuine desire and love to help others but he sacrificed too much of who he was in pursuit of his godhood. St. Trina is the physical manifestation of the love and compassion he left behind. As a result he was always doomed to fail Edit: As for Radahn I'd be willing to bet he was probably mind controlled. Freyja implies with her dialogue that Radahn wouldn't want this Melania is probably more debatable though.
@@FantomMisfit Getting rid of his emotions is a necessary step though... As goldmask said, the fall of the golden order was caused by prickly gods. Miquella probably knew it and got rid of them, preventing another shattering. What caused his plan to turn into this bs is the lack of knowledge. That's why Miquella isn't really a villain imo, it just depends on how you see the game (basically choosing between a peaceful tyranny or total anarchy). That's why Goldmask's ending is, imo, the closest to perfection. The perfect ending would be a fusion between Ranni's and Goldmask's where the new perfect order learns that the Greater Will left the lands between and stops following the fingers.

That’s why I looked this up, if I’m being honest. I had euphoric moment getting grabbed up my radahn and being whispered something nice by miquella. One of the singing notes played and I was jaw dropped

Too true, already used bleed and switched from my brass shield to the Eclipse Greatshield when I did this fight.

I don’t know if this is a hot take since I know the fight is pretty divisive, but I love everything about this fight. The music is amazing, seeing Radahn at the gate for the first time literally made my jaw drop and got me so hyped, the fight itself is really tight and doesn’t feel like bs (to me at least), it’s a worthy sendoff for Elden Ring

I honestly think its just initial reactions from the community. When months go by, and people really try him more and figure him out, I think the community will like him a lot more. Personally, he’s the second best DLC boss in the game.

He took me 6 hours, the roughest 6 hours playing a game ever, and the feeling i have now is of a desire to do it all over again, i absolutely loved this fight with my soul, even tho he did everything he could to crush me

The bells around the 3:40 marks almost sound like something from a wedding and the gate of divinity reminds me of a wedding arch. Very fitting for the promise consort. Also miquellas hair almost looks like a veil.
Man that chord change at 3:35 is just awesome. Really stands out compared to other boss themes.

This is the kind of final boss ost that I need to hear. This boss is perfect and shows how to actually make a final boss the most difficult shit ever. I love this boss so much and the ost is a masterpiece

Lot of people hate this boss for many reasons. This boss is like the center and main target for all things hate towards this DLC. The backlash here makes Malenia's backlash look like nothing.
@@Boc_theSeamster which is strange because this boss is a lot more fair than Malenia gameplay wise, he doesn't have one move that is impossible to deal with and that will kill you 9 times out of 10.

Radahn has an undodgeable move (two Swords cross slash)
I also think the phase2 double gravity spiral with tp in the middle of both is a BS move.

I love how the first bit sounds like an ultimate version of Starscourge Radahn's 2nd Phase, like this is just his True Form or 3rd Phase or something. Absolutely incredible boss in every aspect imaginable.

This fight makes you remember that canonically if you dont use destined death on anybody they do not truly die.. so miquella/radahn may not even be dead.. debatably only omens can die cuz no tree connection but yeah.. idk.
considering how they brought radahn back it could be possible to bring back others that way too could be a good way to set up a sequel.

I love how fitting the first attacks of each phase are. Radahn starts with a very radahn gravity-magic spin attack. Miquella just summons the literal light pillar of a god down on your head....(or I guess up)

Toughest fight in the game. I would call it unfair in some ways, but can't since the game gives you unfair tools to handle it as well.
Game gives you unfair tools for the fight, but it is still kind of ridiculous to make the fight nigh impossible for any other build unless you learn a different konami code for each attack with only a second to react to which konami code you should input.
Messmer and bayle were much more fun in that way, felt much more like a hard ds3 boss
@@madness8897 I agree that Elden Ring's biggest weakness is a vast variety of playstyles only a handful of which are viable thanks to bosses. I think that's why the early game is the most fun, you are not bottlenecked into a few hardhitting builds.
I will not stand for Consort Radahn hate. He only has one move that I would consider unfair (his double slash) and it can be avoided consistently with the right gear. I hope that, in time, people will realize just how good this boss is. This is Fromsoftware at their peak. Top 3 boss in the series

EXACTLY how I feel. Took me roughly 20 tries, but when he finally fell…it was amazing. Peerless.
Tl;dr Trial and error fights are awful designed fights is skill based games
The hate is very justified, this boss is just straight up trial and error until you win. most of his attacks requires the most specific timing and placement and when most of his attacks deal so much damage especially in his second phase you have to be near perfect and just not get hit.
And since I know I have to say this, no most other fromsoftware boss aren't trial and error. If I can see, hear, or predict an attack is coming and all it requires is just timing then that's skill. Twin princes is skill, gael is skill, orphan is skill, genichiro is skill, mohg is skill, messmer is skill. But when a boss has an or multiple attacks that requires the most tedious timing and placement such as malenias waterfowl where you don't know how to dodge it without making multiple attempts to test whats safe and what isn't only then it's trial and error. People who claim trial and error fights like Malenia and radahn are good just want to cope with the fact they wasted 5+ hours on a 6 to 10 minute fight. This is fromsoftware at its worst.

I had Malenia’s sword equipped and that cutscene rolled. And just as he killed Ansbach, I hit him with Scarlet Aeonia, dodged, followed with the Poison Flower Blooms Twice, and dodged the rest of the fight while rot killed him. Not that fight, of course, it took like 40 tries 😂
