This fight is truly a 10/10 it’s exactly the kind of fight I thought elden ring was missing
he is literally one of my 2 favorite bosses of all time.
@@Blackblade-NeXalways thought elden ring bosses were overrated compared to the previous entries but this one stands among the greatest they made
He has tempo which most elden ring fights lack. In fact the only 2 fights from the base game that feel good to fight are mohg and godfrey and the latter has too little health to enjoy the fight.
@@kurumigon8879 FACTS, when i got to phase 2 and saw his new attacks and abilities, i just sat and said YEEEEESSSS to myself. He was the one boss in the dlc i counted on being good and he sure is
This is my favourite fight of the dlc and 2nd favourite of the entire game. His 2nd phase cutscene and the music that follows is pure art.
Intresting how i never really managed to listen to this masterpiece in game because someone mistook me for a pin cushion and kept trying to set me on fire
I mean, the impaler lives up to his name 😅
I've played every souls game, and it is time to confess, Messmer is my favourite Boss ever.
he is my second after gael,FS cooked with this dlc
Lady Maria is my favorite tho she's to easy, mesmer is now tied to #1 for me and personally I found mesmer a tad to easy, but any more difficult and he'd probly be pure BS. He's a perfect boss overall
Super valid
I’d say that is recency bias, but Messmer is definitely up there. For me Gael and Isshin are still on a another level, but I’ll see, I just beat Messmer I still have a good chunk of the dlc left
Midra my absolute favourite❤ mesmer still on the top 5
I like how this theme sounds more tragic than villainous. Fits his character really well.
Snakes live tragic lives.
Just going to eat? "Revolting creature uses venom. That poor prey item!"
Sleeping? "Look at the disgusting thing coiled."
Moving around? "The way it moves is so unsettling."
People go out of their way to hit a random rubber snake on the road and go out of their way to avoid a rubber turtle on the road. Tell me a creature more tragic than a serpent in this disgusting world of Man, I'll wait.
@@VultureXV 1: It's just a animal 2: It's literally the symbol of Evil.
@@DargorShepard
In both the game and real life, snakes are cast unfairly as a villainous thing.
Like morgott or gherman, the fight is more tragic when you know the lore
Shadow Keep and Messmer and the OST are so Dark Souls 3.
And I love it. Bloodborne and DS3 are my 2 favorite souls games, but I gotta say that after SOTE Elden Ring is really close to making top 2 in my list 😅
This!!!
YES
if you listen carefully you can recognize Radagon's notes in this ost. I have shivers all over my body.
Well Radagon’s theme is titled “Final Battle” and is the main theme for Elden Ring itself. In a way it makes sense if those notes appear in Messmers theme as he is the face of the DLC. However, it makes you wonder if it’s intentional for something more. Perhaps this is ANOTHER offspring of Marika and Radagon. However, there is no clarification of this theory, since it was only mentioned that Messmer was “secreted away” in the Land of Shadows.
@@NemesisUmbralhe Is for sure a son of Marika check the shield of Mesmer found with a painting in the DLC
@@lorenzomanfredidesimone8526 Yes, I mean there is no evidence that he is Radagon’s child specifically. However, since Messmer shares semblance to Malenia it’s possible.
@@NemesisUmbral All, or most, of the children related to Radagon seem to share his red hair; Rykard, Radahn, Malenia, probably Ranni at one point. Messmer having the hair color I'd say is a pretty strong indication of his lineage
@@richardbarbaros5868 Ranni's original body has red remains on its head, possibly from her hair.

@@ryeki1552 Thou'art Tarnished? (Oh great, another virgin)
That explains why everyone is calling the Tarnished, Maidenless.
Soon, Tarnished
@@muyahomite Wilt thou be taken in the jaws.. Of the abyssal serpent, shorn of light.
Isn't he reflecting on himself? How he was shunned alike the Tarnished along with his kingdom *"Oh lightless creature, embrace thine oblivion, as shall I"*
"Mongrel intruder"
Thou'art Tarnished it seemeth
Mother, wouldst thou truly Lordship sanction, in one so bereft of light?
Yet my purpose standeth unchanged, all those stripped of the grace of gold, shall all meet death in the embrace of Messmer's flame
Soon, Tarnished. Wilt thou be taken in the jaws.. Of the abyssal serpent, shorn of light.
Mother… Marika… A curse upon thee…
4:06 your really feel the tragedy here. Nowhere in the description of the items does it really show that he enjoyed the things he was sent to do, if anything the guy looks miserable constantly. Imagine being sent to do something and then doing it exceptionally only to be penalized for it. Marika abandoned and erased him from history just for doing the job she sent him out to do against his will and the even after all that he continued doing his job till the very end. His last word hold a lot of meaning when given context “Mother Marika….A curse…. Upon thee.”
Messmer has a personal motive for his crusade.
The hornsent stuffed Marika's people into jars to "purify" them. Marika became a god to avenge her village.
(As Leda said, they were never saints just on the losing side of war)
The shadow keep is built in front of Marika's village and there are living jars in the shadow keep (Presumably Marika's people)
Marika might have given birth to Messmer as a mortal and grew up witnessing the hornsent's cruelty. Item descriptions call Messmer the "son of Marika" not the son of Queen Marika.
@@Ratscracher That's MARIKA's personal motive, her reason for making Messmer do it, Messmer does it because his mother wants him to.
@@DatRealTom Messmer probably also hates the hornsent. Marika would've likely told him what happened to their people.
“Mother, wouldst tho truly lordship sanction in one so bereft of light?”
Marika: "You are cursed and can not be allowed back in the Landy between, but be a good boi and purge all those bereft of light."
Messmer: "Yes mother."
Tarnished: *has been granted grace*
Messmer: "Oh ffs you have to be kidding me..."
When the son you discarded, tries to kill your new husband:
The Tarnished is literally on a mission to marry the ex-wife of his Boss (Godfrey).
@@scythianrabbit3977 And if the Tarnished is a son/grandson/whatever to Godfrey, then you're just trying to marry your ancestor
@@scythianrabbit3977 Marika isn't simply his "Boss": She's his mother. He's a full-sibling of Malenia and Miquella - AND the "Messmer's Flame" confirms that Melina is a fourth sibling to them. That makes 4 Empyreans born of Marika and Radagon.
@@josephgoddard7438 Mind to explain where exactly this is stated? Also, you read the comment wrong, the guy you referred to did even write he meant Godfrey with "Boss".
Or new wife, if your Tarnished is a lady
I was not mad he instanly Killed me
I was stunned how Beautifull His music and boss is
People it sounds similar to the main theme, I think it’s meant to mirror Radagon’s theme, since Messmer is obviously a child of his. Since messmer is the abandoned discarded child in the land of shadow, this theme mirrors are heroic light Radagon by being dark stormy and horrific.
Messmer himself makes the dlc amazing for me. Fav boss of not only the game, but also any game.
Recency bias?
@@Axxxel_in_Harlem Nostalgia bias?
You can feel the darkness in this theme, it almost feels like you’re fighting Dracula.
Well that fits, as Dracula was also known „the Impaler”
@@kobys5074that’s Vlad Dracula you’re thinking of (more widely known as vlad the impaler)
A fast fight, sometimes even frantic. A visual spectacle. And most important: A fair fight. No bullshit 0.5-seconds windup button reading punishing moves.
Can't decide between this and Isshin as my favorite Soulsborne bossfight.
Comprared to other fights in the dlc I found him way more fun. His ranged attacks aren’t too fast, his normal combos are fun to dodge and have openings to attack after, and the snakes are awesome to avoid and have openings
After soloing messmer instead of summoning hornsent+mimic, i now truly feel the greatness of the dlc, messmer might even beat gael in terms of bossfight , lore and theme
Me : Wait what, him ? Now... NOW ?!
Reacción exacta jajajaja
Messmer is not only an amazing boss in this DLC but his soundtrack suits him perfectly, he really lived up to the hype. I can see now why From Software was showing him so much.
he quickly became one of my favorite fromsoft characters ever
He definitely makes me wanna create a thrusting spears build and I'm usually not interesting in that 😂
I love the tiny serpent behind the eye in phase 2. The little details like that really help to sell the boss lore
"Soon, Tarnished. Wilt thou be taken in the jaws... Of the abyssal serpent, shorn of light."
I fucking loved fighting this guy. Beat him with martial arts, one of the most fun fights I’ve ever had in this game. Easily favorite dlc boss, everything about him is just right.
I need to see that! 😊
0:21 seeing him fly at me after the cutscene had me giggling with how cool he is
i swear those siblings- Malenia, Miquella and Messmer are the best bosses i`ve ever fought
“Mother Marika a curse upon thee” Marika stop using your kids as weapons please
“Those stripped of the Grace of Gold shall all meet death. In the embrace of Messmer’s flame.”
They brought together everything I expect in a boss in this fight, simply perfect 10/10. (but he could have more hp)
Those stripped of the grace of gold shall all meet death....in the embrace of messmers flame ❤️
"Men usually grow base by degrees. From me, in an instant, all virtue dropped bodily as a mantle"

"Soon, Tarnished, wilt thou be taken in the jaws, of the abyssal serpent, shorn of light." 🗣🗣🗣🗣💯💯💯💯
His 2nd form the way he uses the snake to spawn in the middle is boss
The last part of 2nd phase is absolutely peak omg
Edit: 4:06 onwards to be precise
1:07 and on had me in tears of how beautiful this OST sounded as I was dodging his burning spin move, followed with his multiple thrusts and the spears coming out of the ground
I love the two choir sections. Beginning of phase one and the beginning of phase two.
This boss is so awesome that he is the only boss that didnt got me raging and shit i actually have fun fighting this boss because he is so fair unlike other bosses
Same, like 40 tries but still fun
i am probably wayy over 100 tries and i enjoy each death, he's just so much fun and i dont complain having to spend more time fighting with him
Is this a variation of the Elden Ring's main theme in the first phase?
Not a variation I think but similar notes are chosen. Many franchises do this to show family relation or character relation. Since Messmer is Radagon’s son
my favorite bossfight of all of elden ring
"Mother, wouldst thou truly lordship sanction in one so bereft of light?"
Best boss in the dlc
What a nice ost 🔥🔥
Keep going🔥
Pov:you spotted someone stripped of the grace of gold
This sounds like it came straight from dark souls 3. So good
Mother... wouldst thou truly Lordship sanction, in one so bereft of light?
I have to say Marika and Radagon third child Messmer is so badass and tragic doing Marika dirty work it a tragic demigod indeed
2:10 my fave butt... The whole song has grown on me fuck yes!!!!!!!!!!
Is it just me? but the colour of his eyes and all the red colour + the choir Style of the ost reminds me of star wars a bit when Anakin falls for the dark side.
i don't think this OST hits the same without the sound of Messmer's attacks
His fight theme is amazing
I knew he had some snake related attacks but didn’t expected him turning into a freaking giant Titanoboa
Enough. I have endured more than enough.
Reminds me of the Dark Souls 2 sound track, love it.
Mesmer.es el mejor ost que tiene este juego.
declara absurdo todos los demas ost
When you start to piece together just who Messmer is, you start to understand why he is the way he is. Messmer was practically being forced to do what he was told by his mother Marika because of what the hornsent did to her people. Albeit, what they did was absolutely horrendous, but mass genocide just beought forth more problems. Im sure Messmer wanted to avenge his mother to a certain degree because of what happened to her people, but he mostly seens to be in a constant state of bedlam because of it. It's no surprise either considering he was abandoned, wiped clean of his image and name throughout the course of all history, and forced to be left on an endless crusade that willl only be over when his demise happens. Idk if Messmer ever took any pleasure in his endless slaughter, but from how i see it, it doesn't seem he liked it at all but he knew it was necessary so he just did as he was told by Marika. He too was also afflicted and cursed at birth like his siblings, and ofc it's no fault of his that he was born that way, which adds another layer of suffering on top of everything else, because im sure he's gottta be in some kind of great pain with the abyssal serpent taking temporary control of his being when he turns to a giant snake and with the winged serpents writhing throughout his body while he's slightly hunched over. It item description, it states that he despised his own flame because it was consumed by the abyssal serpent within him, which gave him a constant reminder of his affliction and that he'll only find release in death. At the root of everything, Marika is the sole proprietor of all her demigod children's suffering because, had she not done what she did from the very beginning leading up to the creation of the Elden Ring itself and and the Golden Order, the demigods wouldn't have done what they did either that would've made their suffering even worse. It was all a series of events that unfolded which would end in the death of the gods and the world and its inhabitants suffering because of the gods choices. We the tarnished are a good example of that. Being forced to go on a predestined journey to mend what needs fixing, coming back from death and not being allowed a true one until you fulfill this predestined fate.
Way better than the final boss
that last minute was evangelical
2:26 Aaaah?
2:32 Oaaa.
2:37 Holy that bass...
2:43 Aaaaaa-haa? HAAA!
2:54 !
The only boss theme I had to look up after, this one gave me bloodborne vibes
Many people have fought video game characters like Dracula but there has never been a boss that mimics Vlad the impaler(arguably the most evil human being of all time)
S tier OST!
messmer : show me your war face!!!!!!!!!!
Messmer: Now drop and give me 20 pronouns!!!!!!!!
@@gentlesin1301 lol 😁 😁 👌
I'm convinced he is Marika/Radagon's bastard until the details of his birth are confirmed by the developers or Martin. Regardless of which conceived him, either Marika or Radagon had Messmer with someone besides each other, and both are the parent in either case. So even if Radagon fathered him with a woman who wasnt Marika, Radagon is Marika, and so Marika is Messmer's mother. Even if Marika had Messmer with a man who wasnt Radagon, Radagon is still his father, because Marika is Radagon.
4:09 is when I lock in and endup getting the most damage in during the fight. Killing him at 4:48 is the most epic thing i've done.
Mongrel Intruder
Buitiful❤
This should've been the final boss
Sadly the only true rememberance boss for me...others felt more like mini bosses or were copy paste bosses from previous games
Banger👌
What happens if I ignore angsbach and side with Leda do I still get his armor set after the end of the final boss in the dlc
I love running dragon cult and communion builds but man they made messmer hard but the challenge made messmer my favorite demigod fight cant wait for the lore videos
0:22 me : it is time
Had no idea shadow keep was so huge...
People were like: You fight him at the 50% point of the DLC..
They don't tell you the DLC is huge and that dungeon... A million ways for you to go in there, and a million ways to exit having not made it to the foot of the Scadutree or to Messmer's boss room 😂
This ost really reminds me of Radagons theme, or is it just me? They sound very similar, i guess they should, like mother like son.
Fought this guy too early
it's not just me that thinks this theme is extremely similar to radagon's theme right?
1:20
Messmer kinda reminds me of Genichiro.
Solider of Godrick vs messmir
👍
"Modern souls fans are all masochists" - synthetic man

I can fix him.
Does anyone know if the choir is singing in Latin or just harmonizing like they usually do? I would love to know if this song holds more lore for him.
It's just a VST instrument, so the choir is sampled / "fake".
I need elden ring messmer theme english lyrics
if malenia was fair and made sense
I sorely regret beating him first try with my mimic summon :((
Lol, he took me like 10 tries, a 2:30 am, itsnwas epic af
Nah seriously, he is one of the most fun and fair fights in the entire game with a banger ost
love how there was originally a fan made theme for this boss and now the boss itself actually exists lol
FromSoftware, I ordered a tough fight and instead you gave me a masterpiece 😒
It this the blood? Oh shit wrong game 😭
Can Somebody translate the Lyrics of the Song so WE can get more Lore
The part you can't remember is in music from DLC and in fact the ost of The Saint of The Bud Trina. I loved that part so much it plays in my ears even now :D Marika has her other part - Radagon, Miquella also has his other part and maybe they want to hint that Trina is Mesmer's other part! Also the opening theme is Radagon's theme.
Messmer must be last boss of DLC
Nope
it ain't
More like the halfway point
He’s like the third from last if you’re going straight from one boss to the next, if you’re exploring properly (as was intended) he should be the midway point.
Second hardest in my list
In my humble opinion, compare to other Elden Ring soundtracks, this somehow did not reach my expectation. The choir is quite vague and not obvious and sounded MIDI. It is also not featured, unlike the first main quest boss Divine Beast Lion Dance which gave me a very deep impression and became my favourite boss fight and ost in the DLC. Because of the bare use of choir, I don't feel quite enjoy even compare to Putrescent Knight's ost. I'm not sure about what others think, and I'm pretty keen to hear it.
Listen to saint of the bud. That is perfection for me personally
@@snill1109 I did, and I would agree your opinion. That also impressed me due to the use of the variation of Malenia's theme.
Are you nuts, 1:10 and forward is nuts.
The choir is singing in faux Latin 😂
@@samf.s.7731Well I know, this has been the "tradition" for souls music (excluded Demon's Souls Remake and Bloodborne). But the choir in this ost is not quite as the major, unlike other Elden Ring soundtracks like Radahn, Morgott, Malenia etc.
He can talk to me when he gets an ost as good as the Dancing Lion’s.
Great boss though.
Now speak
I was pissed at this boss. He fell off the edge right as he got into his second phase.
How?
@@BidnessGhost141he did a snake attack near the edge and there’s no invisible wall, bound to get patched.
I have to say I didn't like the DLC, not really. Most of the boss fights were terrible, there were no feelings besides frustration and exhaustion. Half the time I was just wondering why I even keep playing, the design philosophy of these fights is falling off and the franchise is getting flanderized
Except Messmer. Holy shit this guy single-handedly saves the DLC, I would have honestly regretted buying it if he didn't exist. The *only* DLC boss that captures the exhilerating feeling I expect from fromsoft boss fights. I felt I could fight him on pure instinct, no need to memorize idiotic cheap combos that try to trick or or create huge AoE shockwaves or any BS like that
Terrible fight, but nice music at least... 10/10 Would Mimic again.
I killed it in my 4th try… I may have been too overpowered, I am pretty sad. But the ost is crazy af 🫶🏻
