Hey, no I dont have it
They woke up some Bloodborne musicians and said "bro, one last time".

This track makes me think the only reason this guy was a "failed" Lord of Frenzied Flame is because his first obstacle was you.

Very long-standing trope with demons and chaos. Take warlocks from D&D which is often the base inspiration for this entire sub genre in fantasy: they are a charisma class. Evil and chaos are charming
Well there was speculation about being the lord of Frenzied Flame that it feels good and it actually makes them feel better than having to suppress it, like they let this monstrosity grow and bloom and the effect is now they don't have to fear anything because of the crazed happiness they feel when they become a Lord of Frenzied Flame
I’m sure I also would’ve been significantly more confident if I had a badass flame orb that turns people insane as my head
I think it's more he has no more fucks left to give, that kind of thing can be... liberating, in a twisted sort of way.

The funny thing is, I 100%ed the game a little before the DLC came out, not hard as I only had 1 achievement left, to become the Lord of Frenzied Flame. So when I fought Midra, we were just two lords of flame duking it out.
That’s badass. I need to do this fight again with the frenzy eyes.
I had just quenched the frenzied flame on my character so it felt very thematic fighting the lord of frenzied flame after defeating it within myself
@@WilliamPertzer how I wished that a certain someone would mention the needle during their bossfight... missed opportunity if you ask me.
I'm very excited for my third ending playthrough (doing the DLC on my second ending, doing Age of Dusk Elden Lord) as I want to basically be a pyromancer who becomes corrupted by the Frenzy Flame, so this fight will be one of my last stops before the ending.
no way! I do the frenzy flame ending as my fav so when I got to him I thought the same thing, seeing who has the rightful title to the lordship over the frenzied flame
I cannot express just how badly i was caught off guard by this boss. I don't think ANYONE expected Midra to become the lord of frenzied flame lol. When i saw that he was standing with his back turned, similar to what the tarnished does when they become the lord of frenzied flame, it clicked in my head and i nearly had a heart attack lol
I noticed that, too!
....It caught you off guard? How so? Mfer had ALL THE SIGNS and yall chose to be blind😂
I’m so glad that I came across this place without seeing it on the internet first.
@@McNugge.I wasn’t expecting a lord of frenzied flame though, it makes sense obviously for something frenzied flame related to be in that forest but I wasn’t expecting a lord.
I was expecting some kind of frenzied horror. When that flame appeared in place of his head the shear amount of "oh fuck" i felt almost killed me
In hindsight the amount of furnace golems in the area before the abyss woods tells me much about Messmer's stance on the Frenzied Flame
I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. Messmer's crusade caused so much suffering that the Flame of Frenzy started to manifest. You can see a painting in the Manse back when it was a lush forest full of flowers
@@buckyhurdle4776 I think it's the opposite, since the frenzied flame destroys everything. It probably seduced Midra through Nenesha, forcing the hornsent to impale Midra with the golden sword, containing the flame within him.
@@seafoam6119 The Frenzied Flame doesn't work like that, it isn't conscious. Frenzied Flame is just an advanced form of Nihilism that leans toward omnicide. It's a philosophy, not a living thing. The Flame of Frenzy doesn't choose to manifest on its own, people choose to manifest the Flame of Frenzy themselves when they go through too much suffering. Just like Mt. Gelmir. Neither side of that war had anything to do with Frenzy, but it still appeared, because of all the suffering
@@buckyhurdle4776 While I don't know about seafoam's theory, I am fairly positive the Frenzied Flame _does_ have a will of its own/is a conscious entity. It's an Outer God. I would think that just because we don't see it manifest by itself or of its own accord (as far as we can tell) doesn't mean it isn't sentient. Nor does it being a representation of a concept or philosophy, such as nihilism, preclude it from also being an entity. "Living concepts" is a fairly standard trope for extradimensional eldritch entities.
@@ChaplainIdaeus Is there any item description in the game that genuinely confirms the Frenzy Flame is an outer god? Fingerprint shield just mentions a god
We saved Midra from a potential eternity of unspeakable suffering. He was resigned to it to contain the flame, but in defeating it, we both released him from his fate, and vanquished the evil he was so desperate to contain. One of the few boss fights and storylines in Elden Ring that actually makes me feel like the hero of the story. Nice change of pace, Miyazaki.
I just love how Midra looks and feels so elated to finally let go of his suffering. The way he fights just seems as if he's enjoying every bit of it, like he is showing off to you. A euphoric rage that burns everything away.
'Come my friend, embrace the chaos with me'
might be my new second favorite fromsoft boss (first is isshin ss)
the buildup, the legacy dungeon leading to him, the lore, the cutscene, the music, the attacks are extremely fair but deal crazy damage. just amazing design in every way.
Also hearing his scream of frenzy and his warnings as you approach his arena-
top 10 best fromsoft bosses for sure(at least for me)
Considering Flame of Frenzy is one of my favorite parts of elden ring lore, I played through this whole area with a smile on my face
ISSHIN WAS A MEMBER OF THE SCHUTZSTAFFEL?!
Don Quixote ?
I just love how the lore tells us Midra is a failed Lord of Frenzied, yet the second he transforms, you instantly realize it must NOT be let out of this room and unleashed into the larger world.
Has to be the coldest boss cutscene in Fromsoft's history. A man merely saying he's suffered enough before ripping his own head off. Standing from the ground as an all consuming flame meant to destroy the world erupts where his head should be. Especially with the more ambient, unnerving intro to this theme playing.
This feels like if you fused Ludwig’s theme with the frenzied merchant’s song
now I fused it into 1 hour mix ua-cam.com/video/5CcX4SCxxaE/v-deo.html
The merchant's song is actually buried in this
This could be a final boss in most games and Fromsoft just hid it behind a random wall.

Shoi miyazama is really making a name for himself with this game, all of his music is incredible
this boss was so good that when i was close to beating him i intentionally let him kill me so i can fight him again
this DLC is fire man
The greatest thing of this OST is that the more the minutes go by the more the song descends into pure madness, building perfectly the tension. If in first place I never played the game and had to guess a particular boss style only listening to this song, I think it would have been something very resembling Midra. That's how you create a unique all around experience.
The bass really stands out since pretty much all the other ost's in ER use only "regular" instruments and opera. Makes me feel like the frenzied flame really is this complete alien thing that's not supposed to be here at all
We made 1 hour special mix in pinned comment
This one sound track is so good at telling a story of Midra becoming the Lord of Frenzy. I love how the track starts slowly and ominously, along with the cursed strings makes it feel like you’re fighting for the fate of the world from the most heretical enemy in the game. As the track continues in speed, more instruments are added into the mix, and the chorus becomes more harmonized and in sync with the music it feels like Midra is slowly learning how to control his power as the Lord of Frenzied Flame, until it becomes a complete score where every part melts together in unison just like how the Frenzied Flame wants to unite everything by melting it all away.
Midra is such a well designed boss. This theme has a tempo akin to a waltz, like many themes in bloodborne (see lady Maria and Ludwig the Holy Blade). The buildup to his fight as you fight through his manse is incredible. His maddening and agonizing cries resound through the halls, justifying his will to become the lord of frenzied flame once we encounter him. His moveset is also very bloodborne esque in tempo. This and Bayle are definitely the best to come from this DLC.
This is just a taste of what the Tarnished could become in the Frenzied Flame ending…
i was hoping and praying for a frenzy themed boss/area in the DLC. they did not disappoint.

Because it references the nomad song which references ghermans theme
The way it's composed. The first phase is calm but insidious, goes more insane in the 2nd phase and the last part is pure madness. Basically all Bloodborne ost have the same thing
Plus he even reminds me of orphan
The devs yearn for a bloodborne 2
I like how everyone think the age of stars is the closest we can get to bloodborne. When there is literal the king in yellow reference that is a cosmic horror just like bloodborne
Yep…
This is what I expect a world ending by fire to sound like.
Imagine if you pick the frenzy flame ending and before you can sit on the throne this hits
Shoi Miyazawa I kneel
Definitely didn't expect a Lord of Frenzied Flame in this DLC no sir
MAY THE CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
He who failed to become the Lord of Frenzied Flame got the chaos inside of him sealed using the Greatsword of Damnation. A tool of torture which would crucify him from within to keep the Flame of Frenzy away. He who endured insufferable pain as the last wish of his beloved one. Now he may stop enduring because someone strong enough to defeat the Frenzied Flame has appeared in front of him to end his pain.
"Haha! Little old dude you're pathetic." .... "Oh god what are you- oh my god..."... "OH GOD."
2:10 le chef kiss.
Fear the old madness!
the bass caught me so off guard the first time i heard it
The beat dropped so hard I died. No literally, I was caught so off guard by the music that I died to the boss lol. This one's absolutely going in the top 10 Souls boss fights.
MaxOr: "Ouh, that guy just ripped his _fucking head off,_ this looks bad, it _is_ bad right?"
Midra: *Speaks in angry satanist symbols*
MaxOr: "I think i did an oopsie."
This song gives me both Blood-Starved Beast vibes (both being in 5/4 time signature in the first half), then morphing into Lugwig the Holy Blade (being a 3/4 waltz). Very eerie and upsetting
The level of which my jaw dropped when i first experienced this fight will no longer be seen in any other game. Plus this fight is more awesome when you know the context of it. 9/10 wish it was harder
how evil do you want to sound ?
Midra : Yes
Not Midra. The Frenzied Flame itself.
03:42 The Song of Despair leitmotif holy cow.
the depths of my foolishness 😢
The game devs wanted to show how epic madness can get and this ost just nailed it
3:43 MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD!
What makes Midra so interesting and terrifying is the implication that Marika and Messmer were scared of him. Marika wanted the Hornsent completely annihilated yet she purposefully left the ones guarding the Abyssal Forest alone. It's highly likely that she knew exactly what the Frenzied Flame was capable of and wanted nothing to do with it.
I'd argue this is hands down the best boss theme in the game.
It feels like one single miss step in this waltz and the entire world will burn to ash
He’s a failed lord unlike us so eventually someone stronger will kill him
I absolutely love the Bloodborne vibes this gives
3:54 Holy shit this theme is a banger...
Dearest Nanaya….
3:50 I get strong Lawrence vibes from these strings
I fucking love the more abstract designs like this. He stands out so much
Definitely my favourite boss in the DLC. My tarnished is frenzied too so seeing another dude claiming to be *The* Lord of Frenzied Flame felt like a challenge directed towards me. Someone trying to prove my tarnished they're worse than him. I love his fight and flow, his attacks are so clear and smooth, so elegant and precise. It kinda gave me a different perspective of what a frenzied lord would behave like, perhaps.
In the tune, IT lives… The thing that feeds on misery and sorrow, something beyond human understanding with pure malice, and yet somehow… beautiful.
I just got to him. I was underpowered and it didn't matter. The fight was awesome the whole way through. Learning the dance with him and watching the elegance of his stance, to the point of almost displaying arrogance in being the only truth through the great re-joining's grand goal. Fantastic theme for a very memorable boss. Goosebumps from the whole thing. Elden Ring's cosmic aspects really showcases the fantastical scale of its world. Fight him with a stylish weapon for maximum spectacle.

3:43 The shrieking violin quoting the Wandering Merchants' song is a fantastic touch.
The entire time I was fighting Midra I had to remind myself I was playing Elden Ring and not BloodBorne
One of the best boss designs in fromsoft, attacks are fair but punishing. Design is awesome, moveset is cinematic and everytime I set my summoning sign down to help others fight him, it's mostly because I want to fight him again. Its a fun fight but hard and requires that classic darksouls 100/1 death to victory ratio before you become an dodge expert at this boss where you can reasonably do no hit runs if you're 100% on your game.
Me personally this is the best boss in Elden Ring and the dlc, the whole setup of the abyssal woods, the cutscene and fight itself was amazing, and this song makes it all 10x more beautiful
The violin really adds to everything

I get strong Ludwig vibes from this one as well as Demon's Souls, specifically Demon's Souls here on the low end at 1:36, second phase King Allant at 4:34 (the downward vocals) and Ludwig here 5:26. Not to mention Midra is like a fleshed out (no pun intended) version of Old Monk.

(Almost) perfectly executed cosmic horror. In front of my eyes, i see something that i cannot rationalize, even with all the context that can be gathered, i do not fully understand what this thing is, but i know more than enough to see it as a threat, a balance not often struck. This entire boss is to show us that something we previously had an understanding of, albeit vague, was not truly understood at all, and that meddling in it was a great mistake, which is supposed to be what's scary about cosmic horror. But, Elden ring is not a horror game, so we fight instead of fleeing, which wastes the horror potential, but in return, we got arguably the best fight in this game, in terms of both the presentation and gameplay!
I knew this guy was gonna be the coolest as soon as I saw him in that trailer
Leave it to From to hide a tiny, inconspicuous ladder in a giant castle of doom, only for it to lead down a waterfall, through some ruins, down some more falls, into catacombs, getting spit out into a labyrinthine frenzy forest, only to finally discover a mansion that has one of the best bosses they’ve ever made
Imagine asking a local in the lands between for directions
Hold on now, the tiny ladder leads into a room with one of the like three illusory walls in the entire game, which then leads down the waterfall
If I had a dollar for every time a legacy dungeon lead into a lower additional legacy dungeon that ended with some tie to the flame of frenzy, I'd have 2 dollars, which isn't much but it's weird that it happened twice.
The OST is amazing, the impact of finding him is also great, but the fight is ok at best.
...into the mansion you head through an illusiory wall, and various warped corridors, up a thidden, tucked away, ladder in the most outer corner of the mansion, through an illusiory painting, over several broken wood beams and over some bookshelfs...

He used to. Check out the gameplay trailer. They cut it out to either enable their stealth section or draw out playtimr by making you go on foot through a massive but otherwise empty area.
The art direction team did not have to go this hard for a boss located in Los Angeles
Yes they did, it's a frenzied flame lord.
@@BrainlessV2 I saw about ten of these guys down the street yesterday.
Nah, have you seen the area? It's a swamp, which means...
*This is THE Florida man.*
@@timclaridge8458 fishingarret if he never finds that 20 foot python
Also the most fun boss for me to fight, because he actually gives you windows of opportunity to attack, what a concept
When I heard the bass, I lit up smiling. Thank God fromsoft finally found the bass button
Having that *huge* bass in just *this* song really makes it feel otherworldly, like they saved it for THE fight with a being that's on the verge of breaking reality. Something that *does not belong* in this world, a purely artificial sound in an orchestral soundtrack. Considering the obvious King In Yellow influence, I think it's the perfect fit.
@@sydposting so glad someone else thought it, I was seeing dim carcosa the entire fight lol
@@sydposting well said! Couldn't agree more!
The powerful bass in the Phase 2 section actually sounds like a tuba "splatting" or "overblowing", where you force so much air through that the instrument overvibrates and produces a distorted, blaring tone. This is almost always discouraged in normal playing but in this case it's terrifying and perfect for the composition
Bass isn't classical music. I like it in this song, but I'm glad they do not overuse it.
I love how he just walks menacingly and does the "Well, what is it?" pose from DS1 while shooting flames.
Try the 1 hour special mix in pinned comment
Haha, it really is that pose, isn't it?
Frenzied Dad Midra when
THE LEGEND *NEVER* DIES
Holy shit I just realized that's the pose ☠️
