  • When Cuba lost access to Soviet oil in the early 1990s, the country faced an immediate crisis - feeding the population - and an ongoing challenge: how to create a new low-energy society. This film tells the story of the Cuban people's hardship, ingenuity, and triumph over sudden adversity - through cooperation, conservation, and community.

    One of the major takeaways is the social structure enabled transition by providing subsidised food until food production improvised and ensuring that healthcare and education is free. Even better they reinforced the social services by expanding it within the new social structure.

      I fully agree. People can see what's happening, they must know it's going to get much, much worse...yet still they don't believe and therefore won't act. I've been a prepp#r since after nineeleven. I have a partner who needs to go, I'm hiring help for my homestead while he watches football, and talks about his pension and the working boom in heavy construction. I have been showing him the evidence for almost ten years...we're here and I should feel much more ready...but I'm very alone, just me and all my materials for a (mostly) self sufficient fortress. I wish I had the strength of a man and the ingenuity of a DIY Jack of all trades...I'd be honing my skills. Thanks for letting me vent. Craigslist ads can be a nightmare but I need a new man pl@n!

At least that's how I've been conditioning my family as this growing season has the possibility to be as bad as last years. Thoughts? P.s. lots of people eat small game in the u.s., and I've seen people in south America, Africa and S.E. Asia eating the scorned rat...happily. where are you from friend? Thoughts? T.y. again!

      It's because they didn't saw the shale oil coming. The USA production of shale oil allowed the world oil peak to be postponed by 10 or 15 years. It's possible that this new peak was reached in 2018.
      Remember that extracting oil will have an end, as there is not infinite ressources on our Earth. Even if a new kind of oil is found/exploited, there will be a peak no matter what.

    • @madsam0320
      @madsam0320 11 місяців тому +1

      It’s said in the video that peak oil does not mean it is running out, it’s just productions starting to decline.

    • @mrdeanvincent
      @mrdeanvincent 3 місяці тому

      Oil discovery has been declining, while oil consumption continues to increase. Think about where that leads.
      More recent oil discoveries, such as the shale fields in the US, also tend to be more difficult (and costly) to extract. This essentially means we need to use more and more energy to get less and less energy in return. Again, think about where this leads.

    We need to create ecovillages and populate them with people who currently live on the street. We need to recycle our organic waste into biofuel. 'Homeless' people are not a 'problem' - they are a tragic waste of an extremely valuable resource.

    Watch a yt channel called yoel&mari . They show Cuba what it is like today etc.., and it is not good. Yoel married Mari and they r in the states now cuz Mari is an American and they go through all his 1sts. According to him, it is I to eat beef. If a cow dies it goes to the gov for tourists and they r not allowed to fish the ocean. So maybe it was diff in 2006 when this was made but now it is not good. So I can see this movie is pro Cuba but rem this is only talking about one side of the situation, they rnt talking about all the horrendous crap that is going on over there right now in 2022.
