It can be very confusing, even for Speech-language Pathologists. Good luck!

Very informative and easy to understand. I have both apraxia and dysarthria following a brain injury and I have been trying to understand exactly what they are and the differences and this hit the nail on the head. Thanks :)

Thank you for creating this tutorial! Extremely resourceful to me as a parent of a 2 1/2 year old with apraxia. Now working with SLP's to properly diagnose his speech disorder.

Studying for a Communication and Science disorders class and this helped really helped me distinguish the differences between the two disorders. Thank you!

I have stroke associated apraxia. It's sad, because I have an awesome vocabulary, but the words don't come out right.

How stuttering fits into the broader spectrum of Motor Speech Disorders?

    • @RozanneIsrael

The jury is still out on that one. Some people do believe that stuttering is another form of a motor speech disorder - disruption at the level of timing and sequencing. (Take a look at my video on PROMPT therapy that outlines the different levels of the motor speech hierarchy). Theoretically, stutterers have difficulty coordinating their breath stream with their voice and the movements of the lips/tongue and/or jaw. But it is more complex than that, as there are so many other factors that influence stuttering and periods of fluency.

It doesn't fit. Stuttering it not a motor speech disorder. The etiologies between the two are vastly different.
