I love my studio Live board. It changed everything for me. I sold off 95% of my equipment and bought this board with a lot of money left over. My back no longer hurts and my sound is so much better than before. If your thinking about making the switch from your old crap to this technology, just do it. Your gonna be very glad you did.
Very helpful - just got to work on one of these mixers today, and it is quite nice. I am used to a Midas M32, so this is a bit different - but still very nice. This video was so helpful to me - great presentation, with clear instruction. Thanks for equipping me!
Darn good video Ron. I graduated LA Film school in 2012 and I find your review on this product succinct and to the point. Keep up the good work…I just subscribed because of this video. You know your stuff and I like the way you teach! Thank You, Ted
Hi there - I'm getting one of these in a couple of weeks. You're a nice man and you know what you're doing! Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
this is the very best explanation i've ever seen in youtube, you really helped me deciding wich mixing board to get. congratulations for such a video. you got my like
Do you want to control the volume of multiple channels on one fader? If so, this will work. Every aux on any mixer is essentially a sub mix. It's just easier to manage and rout on a digital mixer. No there isn't a dedicated fader if that's the way you want to approach it.
Ron, Thank you! Great rundown on this board. I am using one for the first time later tonight and your video just filled me in entirely on what to expect. I use a Presonus 181VSL in my studio but the "Virtual" Studio Live interface is not even close to what's on an actual StudioLive mixer, I'm glad I took the time to educate myself before the gig. You gave an excellent demo!
Thanks Ron! It's 2018..... and I recently bought a 16:0.2 usb having other Presonus items of hardware and also using Studio One Pro, but the move from even my PA28 desk to a digital set up was daunting. Fortunately I found you vid and it explained everything. I ran through the things live as you were explaining them, on my mixer and now I understand how to put it to work. Thanks so much. Sorry I couldn't purchase it from CCI. I live in the UK...
Thank you for the great video. I just got my new board in yesterday, and this will help me a huge amount in setting it up today. Our band does our first gig at a community summer bash in 6 days. This was super helpful. Kudos!
Absolutely stellar function walkthrough! Thank you! I'll be using one of these for the first time tomorrow (in a time crunch situation) and I feel perfectly comfortable. :)
Yea I want one. I'm late to the digital dance but wow! I've been looking at the Beheringer xAir series but this seems to be so much more. The xair's are all software controlled which is great but they don't have the analog knobs. Technology is great but knobs are so much more intuitive for many users I think. Thanks for the video!
GREAT demo. my advice to anyone new to this board is always have a laptop connected and run the board through the virtual studiolive software. VSL lets you see what is going on on all channels, -which ones are muted, which are routing back through firewire, and which effects are applied and eq settings. much more intuitive than working from the board itself.
@undrtow2188 The 16.0.2 sends and receives midi control message data. Meaning, you can control aspects of your software with the 16.0.2. and/or control the 16.0.2 through your software. You can also control the 16.0.2 with a midi foot-pedal allowing you to pass midi start and stop commands to Ableton (and most DAW software packages). The 16.0.2 is designed to work in a live performance environment, hence the reason they added foot-pedal control. This may be exactly what you are looking for.
Great video and informative for this console. I do have to poke a little light fun at a 30 yr veteran engineer who calls the sliders "pods." The correct slang is "pots," which is short for what they are which is "potentiometers." Pots, not pods. Also, a quick question regarding his statement that the aux busses can be used for monitor feeds. Are they pre, or post eq, Or switchable? You wouldn't necessarily want to send signal to monitors that is eq'd for the house mix. That could potentially be lots of trouble in the monitors. Typically, monitors need their own isolated eq.
Awesome video, well done, thanks. I have one question. I purchased two DBX compressors, but there are no inserts on this mixer, can I still use the compressors with my 16.0.2?
Very helpful video, since I find the documentation is not very clear and it takes a lot of time to figure it out. I own a 16.0.2. for several years. As a stand alone mixer is does a fine job. However, the Windows firewire driver is of poor quality. I have a "Presonus certified" firewire card, but even then the firewire connection is unreliable. I intended to use the 16.0.2. with a computer, but I gave up on that. I bought another device and that simply worked in seconds and gave no troubles sofar. The input stages have a clear influence on the sound quality. It will do in many circumstances, but if you want hifi/studio quality I think it does not suffice. This does not mean it is a bad mixer. I have heard other mixers in the same price range that sound worse. The main issue with this mixer is the Windows driver. If I read the forums many other Presonus equipment shows the same issue. On iMACs the issue does not occur, it seems.
No, the faders are not motorized. The good news is that if they were, the StudioLive 16.0.2 would be significantly more expensive. Even though they are not motorized, they are still very easy to use.
what do you think of the mixer now that you had it a couple years?I like it & was thinking of buying it for my hme studio soon as i pay off bills bout 3months.
The StudioLive mixers come with two software recording solutions. Capture is great for quick capturing of 1 to 18 tracks and StudioOne their recording, mixing and mastering package. You really don't have a long list of things to purchase when you get a StudioLive mixer. The basics are a computer, instruments, headphones/studio monitors and one or more mics. For package prices and expert help getting the right gear - call our sales-techs at 800.562.6006 M-F 8-5 PST
Need to learn how to bounce tracks in Logic other than its onboard mixer using my Presonus instead. Kind of a two track method. I prefer the 16 4 2 love those preamps❤️
I think your audio software is not picking up the midi audio correctly or it still needs routed to the computer. for the media player issue, the device should show up if you click the speaker icon on the taskbar, go to it's settings (under playback devices) and set it to default device.
Very informative, thank you! I don't own the mixer, our band's drummer does, but he won't take the time to figure it out, so basically I am the one who has to figure it all out... LOL
hey, i set my compressor to what you said but for some reason it is peaking just a little bit, i rap and i am using a "AKG C4144 XL ii" Mic can you please help me out. if you wanna knpow how my voice is youtube my video "Dilano - Armageddon"
Yes, great video! Thanks, very informative. You mentioned that the 16.4.2 has four 1/3 octave EQs thjat's assignable. I seem to only have one. Was there a version upgrade? What version should I be in? Thanks!!
GREAT video. My one question, that I can't get anyone to give me a clear answer on, is how in the heck to send effects into Aux 1-4? Great effects, sound fantastic in the Mains, and I cannot figure 'em out with Aux 1-4. Ideas???
Hi Ron, Glad I came across your video. Your video provided those suggestions I have not seen on the other product demos. I just subscribed because of this video. You know your stuff and I like the way you teach! I love this presonus mixer, but getting to understand this great tool takes some time to understand just how awesome the board really is. This video provided a huge leap forward... Thank you again. Question: I have a group that plays small venues 100-200 people. We use the qsc k12's and ksub.. Can you offer suggestions on if the ksub's should be setup using the AUX channel. (I didn't see any response to this question someone else posted earlier.) Thank You... Jon
Great demo. Very useful. Found myself counting how many time he kept saying "go ahead and" tho. Completely pointless bit of text thrown in to an annoying degree. Still a great demo.
so, can I use this with Studio One 2.5? if i have a project with (let's say 10 tracks), can I do some outboard mixing (eq and what not) on this board, and it effects the tracks in my daw? Or do you have to record with the effects via the board into your daw?
The answer is yes, but once you set it up you'll need to flip to the AUX mix setting to adjust. First you assign the drum channels to an AUX bus - say AUX4. Now you can bring up AUX4 and switch back to adjust the individual levels. Now you can flip to AUX levels and adjust AUX4 when needed. Once you get the concept down it is a decent work-around, it's not as straightforward as moving up to the 16.4.2, but it will work. Feel free to give us a call for more tips 800-562-6006
Very informative video. Our school just recently purchased this unit. For us it's only used for vocals. What kind of setting would you recommend for people who don't like talking into microphones? Should I set the Low equalizer at a high level?
Francisco-- Its important that the people using your mics become comfortable speaking into them. Most vocal channels could be benefited by a high pass filter at 100 Hz to reduce the low end rumble. Experiment with EQ in the upper mids to shape the tone specifically to the voices you have. Let us know if you have any more questions- also feel free to give us a call at 800-562-6006.
Does this work with logic pro? And can i connect my monitors through this mixer? Also how do i connect this mixer to my mac? is it through firewire/usb?
Just bought one of these and plan to use ableton live with it using win 11 just installed the drivers and the universal control works just fine. I’ll be using komplete 14 aswell. Anyone have a similar set up? I plan to produce jungle and drum n bass can’t wait to dive deep into it
MAC. Always. Macs always have FireWire which most Windows pcs do not (not sure if any do at all?), and you can use Logic Pro only on a MAC operating system. Logic is plain out awesome :)
Macheads, good grief! get the fastest windows PC and laptop you can, and order it with onboard firewire. youll save money, and pc handles all this gear very well.
At this point in time, Mac and PC are pretty comparable in performance--with well matched specs. The decision on which to choose becomes a case of user preference. If you're used to Mac, get a Mac. The worst thing to happen while you're recording or mixing is that you are unfamiliar with your system and are unable to quickly troubleshoot when things go wrong.
every once in a while... you find exactly what you need, exactly when you need it! 11 years after the fact... but right on time!
I love my studio Live board. It changed everything for me. I sold off 95% of my equipment and bought this board with a lot of money left over. Excellent review - clear, concise, easily understood, no sidetracking or rambling. Thank you.
Absolutely! The StudioLive 16.0.2 allows you to record 16 channels into both Pro Tools 10 and Logic Audio.
Does it perform multi track recording?
Best explanation of this board I've seen, as I try to learn about my new purchase. Thanks.
Very helpful - just got to work on one of these mixers today, and it is quite nice. I am used to a Midas M32, so this is a bit different - but still very nice. This video was so helpful to me - great presentation, with clear instruction. Thanks for equipping me!
It's almost a tutorial, best review I've seen in a while!
I am so getting this. I use PreSonus and also run my bands live sound. This is a no brainer for getting a pro-sound.
Darn good video Ron. I graduated LA Film school in 2012 and I find your review on this product succinct and to the point. Keep up the good work…I just subscribed because of this video. You know your stuff and I like the way you teach! Thank You, Ted

I mixed a small gig yesterday using this console. Thanks for your video, it was really helpful!
This video gave me great information! I learned so much from it. I have been looking for a mixer for my church and this video convinced me!
Very helpful! Live demo will be good to understand product performance well.

Best Demo EVER ! made total sense
Thanks for the reply! I'll definitely look into the StudioLive

Very well done, your tutorial helped me make my decision to purchase this unit. Thank you!
Thank you for being thorough, I feel much more comfortable using one now. :)
haha This is a live sound class! haha
You're awesome. Love it. I'll send it to the audio school and cut out a month of study.

Great tutorial! 👍
Nice video! Very helpful👍
Nice video! But just a quick question, I have a problem about the latency on the headphone monitor. How would I fix it? Thanks!
Great video! How would I connect a Canon Vixia HF R800 camera to capture all the sound coming through during church service?

how awesome does this thing just want to be!!?
Awesome tutorial! Thank you
Great video
Thank you 🙏 very educational
I did not see the outs for the 4 auxs, please check,

@CCISolutions Hello. Is it powered mixer? And how many Watts is able to get?
I need for studio and for live performance. Thank you for presentation.
So this is a faderport and a soundcard all in one?
i love it!
Can you record channels coming into the mixer to your computer without sending them out to the house mains?

Greeting, the console presonus is exclusively make for the studio? Direct concert? Thank you, see you soon. Cyril.
Great video! What is the mono output on the back for?
Could that be used for a bridged amp to set of speakers? If so how could you monitor the level?
thank you God bless!
Nice review though cam looks a bit out of focus :(
Would you recommend it as an audio interface? As an upgrade from an AudioBox 44vsl for example.
Hi Ron, thanks for a stunning video! Could you tell me is it possible to route FX to the aux channels for IEM. Thank you, Matt
Are the faders motorized?
