this is the only video where the left behind feature is actually tested. thanks for doing this, it really helped me make my decision, seeing how it performs I know it's not what I was looking for
tbh, it has the biggest network in the world for recovery. it is by far the best regardless

I was running the iOS15 beta and this feature was very hit and miss on there as well, hopefully it will improve and be refined over time.
I live in NYC so when I leave something behind I get notified within 2 minutes or less. The item needs to connect with another device that’s not yours while you are not connected. Then you will get the notification. If you were to leave your item somewhere like a park at night, it may take a while to notify you. If you drop your keys in a busy mall then you’ll be notified within two minutes

Thank you for sharing this video, I share your frustration with the Notify When Left Behind Feature. Other similar devices use Bluetooth range to make the notification and I like that because I can easily retrieve my keys, my laptop, my wallet, my bag within 10 metres. But with Air Tag, I get notify when I’m 4-5 mins after I’ve driven away from it, how is that useful 😡 Other similar devices also have 2-way notification but not the Air Tag. For being more costly than those alternatives, Apple is seriously behind in the game.
Really interesting video, you confirmed mu fears. This technology is really unreliable in terms of time and distance before you get a notification, but at least is something.
I’m having the same issue. I don’t want exceptions either. Especially when I leave home. The whole point is to let me know that I left something home. You are absolutely right!! I don’t want to be notified I left something home that I’ll need for work when I’m already on the train heading to work but it isn’t accurate at all. It doesn’t notify me at all. I won’t know I left something home until I realize I left it home. Makes no sense. 🤦♀️
Most importantly is if I left my wallet at a store, say bye bye to my wallet because I won’t be notified that I just left the store without my wallet. If you find the solution, please let us know. I even tried toggling it off and back on but that was a no go too.
Thank you so much for sharing! I believe the solution is to wait for apple to fine tune this feature 😃 but I’m so so happy that we at least have this feature and that it only can get better!
@@MK-Tech Question..in the AirTag information in Find my where it shows notifications, I noticed it shows “notify when found” is blacked out. How does yours show?

@@MK-Tech Not so. It is blacked out even when it is not with me. It is always blacked out and I don’t get any notifications.
The exception for home is useful for many, maybe not you. I have an airtag on my car keys but I live in the city and take the bus or train to work so I leave my car keys home and wouldn’t need to be notified. Also if I’m home it wouldn’t matter if I left my car keys because then my car is home also, if I was driving I wouldn’t need a notification because I wouldn’t be able to get into they car without the keys anyway so don’t need to be notified.
We should be able to define the locations where no notification is needed much more precise/smaller and/or once you iphone goes out of that area should immediately give an alert. Some things like my housekeys should always be with me so when I am away more then 50 m away from their last know location absolutely let me know immidiately, not after 10 minutes. Also, my bikeshed is 50 meters from here. When my bikekeys are in my bike instead of my house, that is a problem, notify me!
1 year later and I still find this feature lacking. I've left my phone behind several times and I don't get a message until I am a long way away from the phone, like a quarter of a mile... On my old Samsung S21 Ultra, the message would come on my Galaxy watch as soon as Bluetooth disconnected, which was much more useful.
Very disappointing Apple. Getting a "Left Behind" notice 4 to 7 minutes and at a distance of 300 to 1,000 meters distance is useless. So the only practical use of an Air Tag is to track and find your object.
I dont have the option “FIND” the one next to “play sound” anymore after i updated to ios15, did they cancel this feature ? Knowing that my iphone is 11 pro i used to have it before
Since I upgraded to iPhone 13 pro my AirTag doesn’t tell me when it’s left behind now tried all the trouble shooting to no avail any suggestions? Apple can’t seem to help me either was fine before the upgrade and iOS 15.0.2
Hi! Can this feature drain the battery of my iPhone?
i find ios15 wont update airtag location so frequently. my bike even showing the location 30 mins ago after i back home (at high floor that cannot get bluetooth signal) and won't be update for a period of time and i'm sure that's the busy place that many of street people has an iphone to update to the server. i think apple trying to lesser the notification cause actually left behind can be any technology that not involve network or server. its just bluetooth. i guess they want to make sure you airtag is really left behind by getting couple iphones receiving the same location in order to notify user but it makes it ineffective.
Mats, I want to use an air tag on my dog's collar so that if she left the house, I would be notified that her tag was separated from my phone at home. It is a reverse of its regular use but, if it worked, I would be notified that my dog escaped from the house. It would open another market for the air tag.
I don’t know about mines because the AirTag live is not working that good they need to fix that on a future update because my girl has one and when I try to track her to test it and I call her to see if she’s in that area I’m seeing and it says she’s there but she’s says she’s not there no more and it’s been like 12 minutes or more that she left the area like it still freezes in the area it doesn’t show any live AirTag moving so that sucks lol
It’s a hit or miss. I get notifications when I left an airtag at home but never get notified when I left them other than my house. I also got the notification after the 4 minute mark after leaving my house (which imo a little too long). Overall pretty disappointed with this product
thanks I did buy airtag and regret it .. I always forget my key and Leave the apartmeant in fourth floor
and I lock building door I can't get back no keyes I locked my self out I thought airtag the solution and here you are tell me the truth THANKS
Leave behind is great, but 1 important feature is missing, the ability to select the time to the distance. For example, if I drop the wallet somewhere on Vacation. 4 minutes notification, it's too long to wait.
They just need to make it geofence enabled
You can now remove any "Except At" location by pressing the red circle on the right of the location. Which means you will get a Notify When Left Behind anytime you walk away from the airtag.
I have two of these and the chirping alarm goes off automatically even when I’m not looking for these items why is that and how do I stop it?????
These airtags are useless. I have one in my bag and forgot it in a cafe. I found out the bag was missing 6 hours later and I could see that the bag was still there. Someone had handed it in.
Airtags will be usefull if we are able to set the distance and time, otherwise it is a waste of money

@@MK-Tech I meant for my use it is useless. I always leave my things behind. There should be more vigorous tracking possible.
The phone could ring or vibrate when you move when outside the BT range.

But There's no Notify when left behind feature on my iPhone 14. I am on iOS 16. am I doing it wrong?
I always remember one of apples Tim Cook speeches he said. (Apple doesn’t make junk). Yeah. Ok.
*You can choose the distance when it will notify you if you add an exception location. The options are small, medium, large or you can drag the blue dot for a custom size. Also at the beginning when you was walking you need to have walked at least 10 minutes.*
Thanks for your comment. However I don’t believe you are all correct. As I described I did not add any exceptions.
Why would I need to walk 10 min when I got a notification a lot earlier from all airtags except my keys? And as you could see later in the video I also got the notification after less than two minutes multiple times. So I don’t think your theory about 10 min is fully correct.

@@bushgreen260 exactly. Please educate me: is there a 10 min upper limit that I could show? But how come the other 3 airtags notified at the very same second?
@@MK-Tech there's no 10 minute upper limit i think but i have seen another UA-cam video of someone testing in ios 15 beta and he walked more than 4 minutes before he got an alert. That is why i said walk 10 minutes. Because you will eventually get the notification. You just didn't give enough time or distance or both. Maybe the one you didn't get a notification for is on a different firmware than the others.
It needs a separation radius significantly smaller than 100m - I suggest 10m so that before you get in the car or bus, or by the time you are at the street, you know your device is left behind.
I think someone mentioned that perhaps you have an iPad or other device at home so it doesn’t think you left. Turn off all apple products or test it out someplace other than home?
Air tag Notification update is more like 30 minutes...I have one..
3:50 I tried to test the equivalent feature on the Samsung SmartTag... I couldn't get it to notify me that I was leaving things behind, but I also didn't give it that much distance or time.. because that's an asinine amount of distance and time as you have already pointed out. You should not be able to be 4 minutes or six blocks walking distance away from your device before you're notified... in the City I live in, whatever my tags on, if left at a bus stop or similar, it would be stolen by then... some homeless tweekee with a tracker detector app would just discover the tag rip it off my keys or whatever I have it attached to and throw the tag in a river or something... this is bad, very bad... my cheap $15 no name Chinese fitness watch notifies me the second I'm out of Bluetooth range... how is it that trackers made by multi-billion Dollar companies like apple in Samsung can't perform at the same level?

one year later I find this video AFTER I bought airtag, and this is exactly how it works for me, ok, so now I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong ..
i can’t found “notify me when left behind” on my find my, how to enable it?
Go to Find My -> items.
Click the item you want to enable it for.
Scroll down to the Notification section.
Enable it.
You can not be currently connected to the AirTag. Then it’s already considered as “found” 🥳
Upgraded to 15.1 still no notification for leaving your AirTag behind apple becoming more like Crapple
I have notiiced that the alerts come much earlier. Today I left my bag in the car and I was about 50 meters away and the alert came on.
Yes it definitely depends on different factors today how soon you get the notification :)
I would like to be notified with a loud alarm in my phone! my phone just vibrates that's it.disappointing
With my iPhone 13 Pro, Siri vocally tells me when I am 300 ft from my wallet left behind at home.
I think the location alerts work on supported newer iPhone models beyond iPhone 13…

It may be taking long because another Apple device hasn’t gone past and connected to it to update its location.
Cause I’ll get notifications for my phone being left behind on my watch when it has battery and no internet connection.
Same with my 2nd Gen AirPods.

THANK YOU for the video. I have the same problems. That’s because i through it away after a couple of month. Airtags are USELESS ! Apples biggest CRAP EVER ! (I own Apple products since 2009). Thank you for the video, a truthful review ! Not like many others that feels like “prostitute” only because they receive free products (ohhh APPLE is SOOO FINE 🤮)
