Ironically this was a technical showcase at the time. It was WAY ahead of the curve on all the options it offered and they didn't didn't spare any expense. But it's also fairly simple at the time same.
Leased a new 1987 Supra Turbo. Pearl white, 5 speed manual, optional anti-lock brakes. Best car ever. Not one issue. Drove to California twice from Florida. 125mph cruising in the southwest desert. Hatchback made it the shaggin’ wagon, too. Turned it in after 5yr lease for a Mercury Sable Wagon, and a family. Should have turned in the family, and kept the car!
Awesome car! I’ve been friends with Eli since High School. He is the biggest car nut I know. We spent all our time looking at import cars and going to NIRA events back in the day. Thanks for showcasing his passion on your channel! I enjoy your car reviews as well. In depth and fun.
I love old Supras. I had an '84 that I bought with 182,000 miles on it. I drove it for 7 years and put another 100,000 miles on it and the only repair it needed in all that time was a $90 sensor. The body on these would rust out before the car stopped running.
2:36 that example is a vampire meaning it’s not abused it has the same OEM parts the paint hasn’t faded the wheels and tires are not damaged so it’s nice
A car or a pickup that is paid off and still in good shape and you can get in and you know its going to start and is reliable even for a trip are worth their weight in gold.
I had a 1984 Celica/Supra back in high school, later owned a 1989 Supra Turbo. Then a 1993.5 Supra Targa Twin Turbo - miss them all…. And deeply regret years later selling my MK4 back in 2006. True memory makers. Always been a Toyota and Lexus guy…
Currently own a 2019 Toyota 4Runner, 2023 Lexus LC500 Convertible, and an inherited from my late father his beloved 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo (38k original miles and condition.) I just early retired, so these vehicles will probably be my last.
13:03 Correction: 1JZ came with Supra mk3 in Japan in 1991. The 1G engine is actually closer to the 3M in the 2000GT than 7M, same bore and stroke even. Yamaha worked together with Toyota on the 2000GT engine and they also made the 1JZ and 1G engines with Toyota. 7M was a Toyota only project.
OMG, this is my dream car since high school time. I'm 57 today and still love this style of Supra Turbo! I think 1992 is the last year for this kind of body style. I personally like this style better than the 2024 models. Thank for sharing this video.
I haven't even owned any cars newer than 01' (That's my Celica GT-S and to me it feels like a modern new car.) Do not in the least care for infotainment or modern designs due to safety standards. MK3 is the most raw driving experience you are going to get for the money, all I can ask for. Plus ya'know, I like to work on these things myself and you can actually do it without a $7,000 scan tool lol.
Been considering getting a 90's JDM car to have for the warmer months here in MI. Toyota and Honda being at the top of my list. This is definitely a sharp car!
The old school paved the way to what we drive now....old school was original, stronger, brand defined ...less technical complications... Very easy to work on
The sheer build quality and especially the interior cannot be beat. Most comfortable seats ever. No ABS, no TT, no bs. It's a straight up luxury ride. The new one is an uncomfortable cramped sports car with fake vents. Drive mine multiple times a week in this season. This is IT.
I discovered and became a fan of the Supra because of “The Fast and The Furious”. I would LOVE a mk4 and even the new Supra’s look great. This mk3 is nice though. Another great video from Raiti’s Rides. 🤙🏼
I had an '87 MKIII for two years that had an electrical problem I was never able to figure out. Countless mechanics looked at it. Changed out so many things. One day it ran perfectly, the next it wouldn't run at all. It was the car I learned how to drive manual on though.
wow you found my Ex's old Supra! 😅 same exact color, accept hers was like a 89 i think, then in 91 she traded it for Mits 3000GT VR4. but was a nice ride, had some fun in that old Supra ☮
The best Supra to me is the MK3... its my dream car my uncle had one and i absolutely loved it. And i ended up with 2 of those to fix 1 a few years back but cause of personal issues i had to sell it all.... its still the car i really wanna own one day.
I see these 89-90 supra turbo having blown heads due to poor head gasket. Though the 7m motor is very reliable the head gasket was it's biggest problem.
The parts added to this car are what we call BPU (basic parts upgrade stage 1). My car is on the heavy end. Pretty much loaded. The Eibachs were a little stiff for me. I went with Tein coilovers.
Giving you a thumbs up Raiti since i dont remember you reviewing older vehicles as much (though not as many cool new ones to be fair) so keep em coming
I have driven the 1986 Supra when I was working in a garage back then. It was a souped-up Corolla at that time, but how things have changed between the two since then!
This car means a lot to me bc growing up my mother had a 82 black on black Supra with the digital instrument panel, my father had a 83 blue on blue 5spd. later on in life my dad had a red 92 turbo targa top and finally when i brought my first car it was a blue 89 turbo targa top.
Few will recall how good the Isuzu cars were, but I had an 85 Impulse that was a pleasure to drive, looked great, and got good mpgs. If you find one, Joe, please show the viewers.
One of my dream cars from back in the day. 😍I never got a Supra but I did own a 5spd manual RWD hatchback Toyota Celica. It was my first car when I got my license at 16 years old.
Hi! I know you usually review new cars, thats why i subscribed, but I'd love to see you review more of these old school classics on your channel, you're the best to do it. Maybe in the future i can see you do like a early 90s Acura NSX 😃
This looks like the exact Supra I used to have. Same color same year and a Turbo as well. My favorite feature was the pop up headlights. I loved that car and I'm still kicking myself in the foot for selling it. I wish I still have the car now.
I owned an 89 N/A and that convinced me to never buy the low end version of a car again. Of course, now there are great cars that aren't the top car, but the power differential and other issues like the freaking head gasket were disappointing. Still, a lot of fun to drive!
Well considering the Mk3 is an actual Toyota over a BMW! The MK3 is best in JZ form and not in 7M head gasket sadness as Toyota gave us in the United States. I have had a couple MK3's and they are fun cars. I made the correct decision years ago and went Z32 mostly because I cant afford a Mk4 for a summer toy car. The Z32 put the MA70 in its place in 1990 and then Toyota said not so fast in 1993 with the MA80! Such a great time in the golden age of Japanese cars.
If I ever buy an A80, the first thing I want to do is engine swap it and put the B58 from a GR Supra 3.0 in there. People do 2JZ swaps on some of the GR Supras, fair is fair right? Some Recaros, Brembo 4 pot calipers all the way around and a set of deep dish BBS wheels would make it have some German DNA, so the engine would complete that quadfecta, and also get under the skin of some purist enthusiasts. And to take it up a notch, pair the engine with the ZF8 and rebuild it to handle extra hp and torque.
Gorgeous car I love everything about it hey Joe please do more cars like this no crappy electric cars, Wish we can go back to the 90's new cars are just boring

My friend had a Mark 2 and then a Mark 3. The 3 seemed cooler at first, but there was something off about it. Learned over time that it was heavy. That with the turbo lag made is seem sluggish and kinda a disappointment.
Great video! I love these cars. In high school I had an 86.5 mk3 na that had the TEMS setup and LSD as an option. Later I had a blue 82 and a gray 85 mk2 I bought for $200 with a blown motor and swapped in a 6MGE from Japan.
I love the old. But i also love my 21 supra. It was instant love of the dynamics and handing at first drive. Too many car guys ignoring them because of the BMW guts, but they're missing out. The handling and power is perfectly balanced!
Ive owned 2 MKIV supras and that was 17 years ago. Both were bought under 20k. Insane how much they are worth now. Im a car dealer and see them even on Manheim for 100k. Cheapest ive seen them for is 46k and its right hand drive.
Middle console, you can adjust the bolster in and out to make them tighter or loser, the tech in the mk3's are insane for 86.5-92, I LOVE these cars. I've owned so many of them and really miss my last one, but it had 72k miles and someone from TX wanted it WAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than I did at the moment. I have owned mk1-mk4 supras. The mk3 has the most SOUL of any supra, if you swap the 2jzgte with a modern ECU/harness into the mk3 it is the best of all models combined.
One of the nicest classic supras out there. Plus, tell the owner that the color on the driver door and front fender doesn't quite match, lol. Maybe just how the flakes sits at different angles. Nice car.
Old cars are one of the best cars ever made even better than new ones.
So very true! Especially this one!

Turbocharger technology has come SO far since then. Glad to have so many options these days from Precision Turbo
Fantastic review, Joe!
Great video! I love these cars. In high school I had an 86.5 mk3 na that had the TEMS setup and LSD as an option. Later I had a blue 82 and a gray 85 mk2 I bought for $200 with a blown motor and swapped in a 6MGE from Japan.
My dad had navy blue supra back in the day. Stick shift.
I love the old. But i also love my 21 supra. It was instant love of the dynamics and handing at first drive. Too many car guys ignoring them because of the BMW guts, but they're missing out. The handling and power is perfectly balanced!
Thanks for sharing that fantastic ownership experience!
I used to own a 1983 supra with a 5 speed manual. That was a fun car to drive and I used beat 5.0 foxbody mustangs back in the days
My favorite car ever. Great video!
Most underrated Supra due to mk.4 being too overrated
Let's keep it that way. It keeps the prices low.
I agree with both of you. lol by far my favorite body style
Growing up this was the car I wanted. Very sad what Toyota did with the new Supra. I instead bought convertible flare yellow LC500, very pleased😁
I LOVE the LC500 and wish that it was the next Supra
Pop Up Headlights Are Awesome
Ive owned 2 MKIV supras and that was 17 years ago. Both were bought under 20k. Insane how much they are worth now. Im a car dealer and see them even on Manheim for 100k. Cheapest ive seen them for is 46k and its right hand drive.
We're the same age, cool
Heck yeah brother!
Nice retro ride and in great condition. Maybe pry the silly teenagers exhaust off the back end, but otherwise this was a nice early 90's flashback.
Hey what's happening awesome old school with pop up headlights 😊❤
One of the nicest classic supras out there. Plus, tell the owner that the color on the driver door and front fender doesn't quite match, lol. Maybe just how the flakes sits at different angles. Nice car.
