I while back, I believe it was Car and Driver, built up a Ford Fiesta. This was in the 90s. They said one of the things they liked was that you could keep your foot in it. In a Corvette you'd be going way too fast, way to quickly so you could never feel like you are tapping into the car's ability.

It was a really good comparison but I don't think the BMW should be in the list. BTW I love your channel also. Both this channel and yours are on another level.
Bought a 1982 supra at 16 years old. I had no idea what it was. I'm 42 know and it was hands down the funnest most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. In the rain you could get sideways around every corner with so much control. I drove it to 475000 k with only changing the windshield wiper motor. Ugh good memories
I think you are onto something with this "every generation" - format. While it is probably a huge pain to organise and, depending on the car model, very hard to pull off, it is really great to see the different generations back to back. Would love to see more of this. "We Drove EVERY Miata" or "We Drove EVERY Evo" (or eclipse, cuz there are so many evos lol) would be amazing!

I agree I always love the MK3. I remember my dad my brother and I(I was 4) my dad and my brother was getting a E100 Corolla at a Toyota dealership and I was wondering around the pre-owned section and I was looking at the MK3 and I did sit in it (no key was in it) and I was just pretending to drive. saved my mk3 from probably going to a junkyard, and despite all the problems ive had (mostly electrical) i wouldnt trade it for the world. there hasn't been a car thats given me a similar feeling since.
I never realized how different and unique each generation of Supra is from each other. If you took off the Toyota badges you’d think they’re all completely separate models.
Owned two MK2's over the years (84 & 85). Both P-type, 5spd manuals. Glad to see the MK2 rank well, it was a blast driving that car. Not fast for today's standards but it was fast enough to be fun. I miss my '85. Great video guys!!!
I had an opportunity to buy one when I was 20 for like 5k or something . I kick myself. It would have been my only car and the north east during the winter would have sucked. So I made the right decision but regret it now because it’s probably worth way more. This was like 2004 at the time and didn’t really have a huge following so it just was an old car at the time.
I feel privileged to just have ridden in one, and it was auto! haha. But its a very special experience, car has a ton of character, especially the motor
@@AlexAu3 Why should the MK5 A90/J29 Supra look like the MK4? There's literally last generations (before the MK4) that are different. And the MK4 A80 Supra should thank the Lexus SC400/300 for its style. Otherwise, without the Lexus SC400/300(and by the way the 300 had the 2JZ series B4 the MK4 existence. While 400 had the V8 1UZ as the top engine choice over the 2JZ) the MK4 wouldn't exist. And even since its debut the MK4 A80 Supra was poor in sales for almost a decade (1993 to 1998 in the USA. 2002 in Japan). The MK5 A90/J29 is actually trying to be the 2000GT which is like the Great Grandparent of the Supra/Celica

Really surprised and pleased to see the MKII getting so much love. Mine is the best car I've ever driven, so much character and such distinctive looks.
Mk2 and new MK5 Supra are by far my favorites. The color way of the anniversary edition is beautiful. Mk3 also cool. And 4 gen too They’re all cool man
i have a white anniversary edition, i fucking love it. im not sure why they didnt like it as much as the mk4, but maybe thats because they didnt drive it in the right environment, im having an absolute blast in this thing stock.
The MK IV will always be my favorite, but definitely love the Mk II. I love watching Sarah, from the Sarah-n- tuned youtube channel doing a restore on the 82' Supra for a viewer giveaway. What a sweet car!!
The Mark 2 holds a special place in my heart and will forever be the best Supra created in my eyes. Back in 2014, a famous Florida baseball player (can’t remember his name for the life of me) went to our church in South Florida. My dad has always been a huge and respected leader of our church, and many loved him for his undying energy to serve others. This baseball player took a liking to my dad, and eventually gave us his 1985 Mark 2 Supra just for being such a great guy. This Supra was CLEAN. And I mean, carpets untouched, shift knob free of oil, original paint shining. On top of that, the engine was pristine and came with a 5 speed manual. As a kid growing up on Gran Turismo 4 and the original Forza Horizon, I was ASTONISHED at the fact my dad had such a cool sports car to our name. My dad noticed my enthusiasm, and one day offered to let me drive it when I was 13. I have an old video of me, not knowing shit about how to start from a stopped position, chirping the clutch in every gear while me and my dad had a blast trying to get me to understand the concept of “give it gas while you take off the clutch”. Sadly, we had to sell the beautiful beast that brought my car enthusiasm to life. But the memories I hold with that Supra will always be burned in my heart. Now, I’ve had cars ranging from a simple Honda Accord, to a Mustang GT and even an NB Miata. That car was more than just a generation of the legendary Supra line, it was the love that opened my small eyes to the amazing world of cars and my love for these mechanical horses of speed. I hope one day to find an unmolested Mark 2, so I can relive me and my dad’s cherished memories of our youth when we had no cares in the world but our smiling faces, and that damn weird steering wheel
My father had an MKII Celica Supra back in the day and he said the only reason he sold is was because he got more speeding tickets in that car than any other combination of cars he has owned combined.
Mk2 is finally getting some love, they are super under appreciated, I have 2 and they’re still cheap to pick up and I highly reccomend getting one before the prices shoot up like crazy like the other ones
I love my 89 mk3. The facelift they gave it halfway through was great and while it suffers from a lot of 80’s things with plastics and vacuums it’s a great touring car and daily
@@DanielHuggett-ob9hofunny how I don’t. The mk5 supra is what the c8 vette is to the corvette history. It’s completely different than the previous models.
@@vexedpixels it’s a continuation of Toyotas evolution with Toyota motor and Japanese engineering top to bottom for the mk4 Supra. The mk5 Supra is a pieced together car. The c8 vette is mid engine and last I checked no vette has ever been mid engined? Do you get where I’m coming from?
I got to say guys, this is probabably my favorite kind of show you do right now ! the "let's drive old to new hero car. And I'm baffle to see James speechless like that, I can almost feel the joy and the pain at the same time. These, are the car we grew up with and wanted. And still want over the new stuff!
This is the first one of these where the list is 100% spot on with my own feelings, which is awesome! I absolutely love the Mk2...to be honest, I want one more than a Mk4 but I think that comes down to price more than anything.
As a former owner of a MK2 Surpa I am really glad to hear your verdict, it was such a special car, I even engine swapped it to a JDM 6mge. The suspension tune was outsourced to Lotus BTW. I am surprised there aren't more of them in the JDM scene that seems to be obsessed with S chassis. One reason could be that most of them rusted away LOL
I was born in 80, so I remember seeing the mk2 alot as a kid. I always thought it was an awesome car, and the mk2 wheels look sooo good on so many other cars. Mk2 is def my favorite 💙
Others want up to speed, but this is a perfect alternative, we get educated on all the different models, we get to actually see them, and you guys get to have fun, its a win-win!
Loved every Supra except the latest. The fact that Toyota could not do their own version is sad especially when they have no issue spending money on LFA, LC, and other low volume models. And previous gens selling for more than a used current gen says a lot.
Im about to turn 15 and I’ve been watching you guys for 5 years, just wanted to say thank you for all of the inspiration you guys have given me, you changed my life
16:14 James put it so well, yea in the new cars you're really too comfortable for these kinda speeds which is dangerous. You actually can't feel that you're driving over the speed limit because the suspension and everything is so soft. Whereas in my old Mitsubishi Galant VR4 it definitely FEELS real when you accelerate.
The MKII was my first car I purchased when I was 18. It's nice to see the Donut crew have an appreciation for such an underrated generation, especially ranking it 2nd between all generations. 10 years later, my MKII is still a blast to drive around. I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world. Thank you Donut for showing us the evolution of this icon, the legendary Supra!
In 1982, my dad was looking into buy a new car after he sold his Thunderbird. Went to a local Chevy dealership and wanted to buy a brand new 82 Corvette. They told him it'd be about 3 weeks to get a new one delivered. Being in his early 20s, he was impatient (aren't we all) and told them he didn't want to wait that long. Well down the road was the Toyota dealership, and in it sat a brand new Terracotta Red Supra with a digital dash and all the options that was offered. With 10 miles on it. Having never driven anything other than American cars, that man drove his new Supra off the showroom floor. And to this day, he says that was the best car he's ever owned
Great episode! Got linked to it by some fellow MK2 Supra Guys and stoked james liked it so much. USA people, you don't know how lucky you are for availability of Cheap MK2's and parts! Most of them were sold in the USA and are really rare elsewhere in the world. I have seen rust free cars that need a bit of work selling for $3000, tonnes of good shells being broken for parts in junkyards and i weep. Living in the UK, they only ever imported 100 cars a month, so there are barely any left now. Buy these up now and save them because they are going the same way AE86 prices did. And then you'll all moan that you should have bought one when they were cheap. That time is NOW! Mitsubishi/ Chrysler/ Dodge Starion/Conquests too. they al need saving and buying up. Too cool to all get scrapped.
Yeah, I almost bought a MK2 with very high mileage for only $500. many years ago but I already had MK2 wheels, seats and rear wing for my better looking MK1. Kinda glad I didn't buy the MK2 'cause I planned to pull the motor and maybe the rear independent suspension to hopefully install in my classic MK1( is rear possible?) I would have ruined the love it or hate it boxy robot body MK2.
Man I hate how gatekeepy car guys are. Never watched F&F, I just think the A80 looks incredible and has incalculable tuning potential. I’m not 12, I’m not a fanboy, I just like the car, but everyone has to be so toxic toward anything popular. Whatever makes you feel special
In 1992 I bought a 1988 Mark3 Turbo Supra. It was a phenomenal car that many people were surprised how it would take off. I sold it in 2001 to get a S2000
I am super glad to see the A60 (Mk2) getting some love. Bought mine six years ago and I wouldn't ever dream of selling her. Such an overlooked and underrated car. Pure driving experience as well as the retro 80's look that arguably everyone loves! I previously had a Mk4 and sold it before prices went sky high, now it's back in the realm of a dream car. One of the worst decisions I have made. :(
this series is way better than i ever expected it to be and I cannot wait to see more legendary cars like the Evo and M3. Hell, I'd be interested in the Camaro, Mustang, and even Charger.
I just bought a MK3 about a year ago and finally have it back on the road after pulling the 7m and doing a full rebuild on it with a fully forged bottom end. So ready to break it in and start throwing some big power at it
As a kid, I knew right away that the Supra MK4 was THAT car from playing the very first need for speed by Road&Track.. You had all these famous super cars to pick from but here came the Supra.. And the RX-7 come to think of it! I'll never forget whopping my cousins as they always picked the DiabloVT or the Viper. THATS when I fell for the legendary MK4. Gran turismo further confirmed my love for it as well lol
I owned two Mark 1 Celica Supras. They still have a special place in my heart just because they were my first cars. To be fair, the automatic transmission made it feel gutless. When the motor blew, we crammed in a 22R with a 5 spd out of a Toyota truck. Sad to say, it improved the car. So glad Toyota didn't give up on the idea after the Mark 1.
I had an 81 mark 1 with the 5 speed. Pulled like a mule from zero even in 3rd gear. I even redlined it in 5th and wrapped the speedo around back to 20kmh (no pin) I understand the auto's were gutless turds tho. lol
This is the most conflicted video i watched from you guys, specially when Nolan said that quote about MK5 Supra or "Cooler BMW Z4" that applies for most modern sport cars
yeah. the omission that the newest supra has a bmw engine, bmw platform, and is built at the same factory as the bmw z4 in Austria while calling it "just as much a supra as any other supra" is disingenuous... they're in it for the thrills not the facts.
One of the most awaited episodes from Donut. The MK5 is a dream car of mine and this video showing the history with the different generations was so fun to watch.
I have yet to experience a MK1, MK2, and last but not least a MK5. I have only ever ridden in 1 MK4 that was a replica of the Fast & The Furious. Equipped with 800HP. Mostly I am partial to a MK3 because I owned one, with just a couple small mods it made 320HP, but it was a blast. Great video guys, almost feel like I have been able to experience the rest now. Keep up the great work!
I agreed with the ranking. Great video guys. I had a mark 2 with a 1jzgte swap and a BPU+ setup. It was a really fun car. I also had a mark 4 at that time and I actually liked my Mrk2 more.
Great vid guys. A little more details on the power and drive train would've been nice, but i 100% feel the same on the rankings. Although i may be biased as a mk2 owner. I love you
Loved this video guys! I've driven a lot of cars, including a R34 GT-R, owned a FC, FD, STi and currently a MKIV Supra, and I can definitely say that the MKIV does live up to its hype. Not only does the 2jz have massive tuning potential, so does the chassis. Can't wait to see more videos like these
I love this series it would just be cool if they where all bone stock.. at least as much as possible but I know it’s almost impossible so still.. thanks guys.. 🙏🏽
The mk4 supra was just bpu so that’s close to stock and just minor bolt ons. Hard to find a bone stock mk4 Supra, they were made to modify with that legendary 2JZ motor
Hope to see an episode like this with the Z. I know high low already has done the 350Z. Though there is just so much longstanding good heritage with the Z car. Plus there is like 9 different models ❤
I had to go and do a little bit of digging because i didn't even know about the 200ZR. I didn't realize the Z31 had a Japan only special edition as well. I knew about 380RS Nismo for the Z33. Thanks for telling me about a cool Z I have never heard of.@@staplehead3
Love the videos! I think a great idea is to do one of these for the Zs. I own a 87 300zx and would love to hear your opinion on it compared to the other Zs
I've always loved the look of the mk3, but between Sarah's current mk2 build, and this video, my desire for a mk2 keeps growing. I also love how your reactions to the mkIV live up to the legend! 😎👍 The mkV would be really cool with a targa top.

My dad always told me he used to have a “Supra Celica” and I thought he just didn’t know what he was talking about. Plus he’s a slow driver. Now that I know it exists and is slow, it makes a lot more sense. Edit: It was a Mark 2 and now he’s telling how “it just handled so nice and when you wanted to go, it would go.”
Its not as popular but driving every celica would be great. Some of the models have some great history! If you do a video on them, make sure to say they are trash so they will still be affordable
@@bad_pigger Good point i totally forgot somehow. But they should only do a vid when I want to sell mine but besides that sadly it stays underrated but that's still good in a way
@theheadone they are amazing. I usually see them for around 30k to 40k (50k for a real nice one) so not bad compared to the mrk4 supra. I would love to keep it that way
I’ll buy your list order! Ordered my fully loaded 85 Supra in 84 after watching Toyota build it up for years. Salesman asked if I wanted to test drive one before I ordered and told him, No! Don’t have to, and when I got mine before year end, it did not disappoint! To today, it still thrills me to drive it, though it’s a little rusty now. I get no less than 3 knocks a year, asking me if I’d sell it. I have restoration plans for it! I can’t argue with the Supra that beat it, but it’s sniffing it’s but 😄
We,especially I as a 6th Gen Toyota Corolla owner..want an independent epsiode from you guys titled like"WE drove evry Toyota Corolla" please make it happen..Love you Jmaes and Nolan Love from Bangladesh😍😍🥰🏳
It would be sweet if Donut did these videos and alternated back and forth between USDM, JDM, and EDM. It would be a good way to give some big history lessons for all different kinds of cars in car culture. Loved the video!
The 2nd gen Supra was the car that got me interested in cars; I was maybe 6 at the time, and never really noticed cars before. Saw a burgundy example, and the “Supra” painted on the back was in gold, I still remember. It seemed like a spacecraft to me. Was a tiny enthusiast from that day onwards 😎
As much as I love the MK4......that MK2 body is still my favorite of all time. Dunno why but I think it trips the same circuit in my brain that makes me love the old MK4 Golf as well. That square-ish body style from the 80s just does it for me and the MK2 delivers with euro styling to boot. Just wish good ones weren't so bloody expensive lol
I can say that I am very fortunate to be able to own multiple MKII and MKIII Supras, from 1999 to 2016. I also have a privilege on working on countless MKII, MKIII and MKIV Supras, during that time period as well. these cars helped me start my career in automotive repair and performance and also taught me a lot in high performance tuning and motorsports. I first started drag racing in a Mercedes 190E in 1998 and then a MKII Supra in 1999. and also learned how to drift in a MKII Supra, back in 2002. the MKII is definitely a much lighter and agile car. its a “drivers car”. almost like an AE86. the MKIII is more like a GT car. it can handle high speeds very well and can accept a lot of mods and engine swaps. the MKIV is more sleek and sporty and can handle treating amounts of power on the mighty 2JZGTE. although I never owned a MKIV, I am lucky enough to be able to work on a lot of them back at my old shop at KBR Performance. lots of fun times and learning experiences from working and driving those 3 generations of Toyota Supra and now, I also have the opportunity to work on a couple of MKV’s. its a great car, but nothing beats the OLD SCHOOL!

And 4 gen too
They’re all cool man
i have a white anniversary edition, i fucking love it. im not sure why they didnt like it as much as the mk4, but maybe thats because they didnt drive it in the right environment, im having an absolute blast in this thing stock.
I liked this episode. Would love to see one doing the Camaro from 1st to 6th gen!

The MK IV will always be my favorite, but definitely love the Mk II. I love watching Sarah, from the Sarah-n- tuned youtube channel doing a restore on the 82' Supra for a viewer giveaway. What a sweet car!!
You know how many tee shirts I have because of that giveaway?
Shout out to the drone work! A nice addition to the also great road cameras. Keep stepping up the game guys!
The drone work was amazing! Made it look like a video game with the shots it took!
I remember driving the Mk II Supra, and thinking, "Man, this drives better than a Camaro."
High praise
My father had an MKII Celica Supra back in the day and he said the only reason he sold is was because he got more speeding tickets in that car than any other combination of cars he has owned combined.

This could have been a 1 hour video and I would have watched all of it, more than once = ))
I'm always impressed by the camera crew for Donut

16:14 James put it so well, yea in the new cars you're really too comfortable for these kinda speeds which is dangerous. You actually can't feel that you're driving over the speed limit because the suspension and everything is so soft. Whereas in my old Mitsubishi Galant VR4 it definitely FEELS real when you accelerate.
Really loving these "generations" series. Keep it up.
My first car too, but I sold it :(
In 1982, my dad was looking into buy a new car after he sold his Thunderbird.
Absolutely love this as a owner of Mk2 this warms my heart love ya guys 💯

Ideally, the MKIV should have been a stock example. But I know those are rare and expensive.
They should have hit up Sam from Cleetus s crew! Although his never leaves the garage haha
That car is pretty damn close to being completely stock.
It actually wasn't too far off from being stock. The engine was still the original TT set up
Great episode!
Great video! I hope you do more in the series. And as a long time Supra owner I think you did the cars justice.

I feel the Mk 3 is very underappreciated. I owned one when I used to live in Japan with the 1Jz amazing car!
I'm proud of these guys for going thru the whole video without making a "is that a supra???" joke
These are amazing, I’d love to see one with all the generations of prelude. (Please get the ones with 4ws, they are a different car all together)

Had a mk2 1985 with digital dash. My first car. I'd love to have that car back. So reliable. Such a good car.
Probably one of the nicest mk4 Supra's I've ever seen. Other than the 12"' sub, the mods are so subtle and well-done
I saw that, the MK4 Supra is the best Supra so far and it is at #1
the sub 12 is actually amazing, not everything can be fast mods.
Well good news I was thinking of adding squarish corners on the retro thunder that are still smooth so it looks like a 68 mustang/ a mkII supra
