This is downrated to 4500 to sell in bigger numbers to car license holders. You can upgrade to a 3500 with more comparable GVM figures to the US versions but you'll need basic truck license.
That’s because the Laramie is not designed for off-roading, it’s designed to be a luxury hauler. The Ram 2500 Power Wagon is the off-roader, has a low range transfer case, locking front and rear diffs and a higher clearance. Let’s hope we get this model in Australia.
The rough ride comes from it being sprung for at least 2,500 lbs. The only reason that the payload is lower in Australia is because they de-rate them to meet Aussie licensing limits.
8000lb towing? Must be the towing weight rules are different down under them in North America. Canadian 2500 rams are rated at something like 16000lbs towing.

160 thou no thanks. We here in Australia are getting ripped when it comes to vehicle pricing. Payload is crap . Towing is good but combined with payload it falls well short.
Payload is downgraded so it can be driven with car license. It can hold a lot in the bed. Towing is also downgraded. Same drive train in 3500 duality can tow over 30000lbs.

A 4 inch lift and bigger tyres and this thing would be a weapon off road! Like most utes, they need the mods to be fantastic off road

Great truck, perfect for Australia. Much better than typical imported Asian 4 banger low blow soot blower variety.
I wonder if the payload is only on paper, i.e. limited by a 4500kg GVM for licencing?

Yeah but why buy one for trails? You would get one for towing and if your towing a 25ft caravan or 3t excavator, your not hitting tracks anyhow.
Also it has a 5yr warranty. So if your buying for a company vehicle (construction probably) you turn them over every 80k anyhow. So who cares.
