Less people knows the power of Beards.
Cant wear gas mask effectively with beard.
I think they've taken that into consideration now and it's been shown you can still get a good seal.
1) You can (special forces do it all the time),
2) With long beards on certain individuals which do prevent a tight seal on a gas mask, the rules state soldiers should expect to trim it,
3) It hasn't done Ukrainian soldiers/ Russian soldiers has it?
CBRN warfare isn't a thing anymore.
It is an old carry over from WW1.
If you look at picture if German soldiers in WW2, you'll see they carry a long metal canister.
This was for their gas mask. But within 6 months (1940), they realised chemical warfare was a thing if the past so they threw away the mask and used the cannister for food and ammo.
So the fact armies still prepare for it is astonishingly embarrassing.
It's like drilling infantry for cavalry attacks...
Man, who knew our government can hold debates over such a matter of huge importance?

You do NOT get an effective seal with a beard.
It may just work with positive pressure s.c.b.a.
You know why this has been introduced as well as I do.

Only a poser would have a beard when serving. If this is the news from wion then they are having trouble coming up with anything worthwhile then apply the old expression: If you have nothing worthwhile to say then keep your mouth shut!
