However, the peace proclaimed by Neville Chamberlain in 1938 quickly dissipated, highlighting the need for preparedness. While conscription may not be imminent, European countries that already have mandatory military service view it as a normal part of society. However, implementing conscription in the UK would pose challenges as it could undermine the small professional military currently in place.

If no one volunteers then the government will force it in just as they did in 1939 & those who wont comply will have the military police knocking on there doors & then they will drag you to an army camp where you come face to face with an officer who will make the decisions & if you still dont comply they will either send you down the coal mines or in a military prison Once you finished your sentenced you will be lumbered with a Dishonorable Discharge I remember my grandad telling me about this back then it was called National Service where he had to do it which didn`t end until 1963

I lived and worked in the UK in the mid to late 1970s. I reluctantly left England
in 1980 but looking back it was probably a good decision although living in the
US isn't much better these days.

We have a ready made army coming into the country every day. I did 22 years in the UK military, the country I served has gone now, not for me I am afraid. I have Ukrainian friends, ex-soldiers who refuse to go back to the Ukraine as they understand they would be put into the meat grinder and have little chance of survival.

I think there will be revolutions across Europe and the US before there is any war with Russia and its allies. One answer is to tell all the immigrants, legal or illegal, swarming into this country that in order to be allowed to stay they have to serve at least 3 years as ground troops and be expected to fight when ordered to. After 3 years they would be granted British citizenship if they have proved themselves worthy enough.

My late father was conscripted to fight in the Second World War . It doesn’t take too long to train you as gun fodder. He did six weeks basic training , then a brief stint training in Ireland then hit the beach in France where the real fun began .

During the 2nd War an average working class member of the Public just needed common sense,A basic level of fitness,How to use a basic bolt action Rifle or the likes of a Thompson machine Gun or Bren Gun etc.

People who are conscripted will not be of any use even when they are sent there theyll have no interest in it . The key is make the military an attractive career by paying them loads more , looking after their families financially and when they leave give them house and good pension then they might stand a chance of recruiting. Now they get paid buttons , no financial security, no help when they come back with ptsd end up in the streets ruined so there is where the problem lies
