I think you are spot on with what motivates the youngsters to join up. With regards to the woke campaign, all of our military branches and especially the top brass need to drop it straight away, before it starts damaging the core ethos, traditions, culture and war fighting ability that all of the British military branches have historically held dear to.

I was quite envious of 216 when Stationed in Aldershot . They were able to get to the Cook house at Breakfast time before other Airborne units. Best wishes from ex.REME ,Para Log. Regt .

In 1963 & '66 l went to Bahrein and had a great time. 2 Para were based away from 63 Coy , HQLFPG.was far better.Swimming at the H M S "Jufair" pool many times . As a V M , l stayed with the Airborne until 1977 . Best wishes to you and family.

Their biggest unit is a logistics unit? That's no small point there. The importance of getting supplies from point A to point B should not be underestimated. As the Russians found out to their detriment 🧐

Not sure this is a valid tactic after what happened to the Russian VDV - bad tactics aside the viability of tier 5 hand held launchers (anti air and anti armour) meant lightly armed and supported airborne troops didnt last long and didnt even get out of the planes before being destroyed. I think we're too used to fighting very poor opponents with no modern weapons which make helicopters viable - in the Ukraine even with Russian Hinds which are heavily armoured or the KA52 helicopters didn't last long at all ...airborne light forces have all but been abandoned in the Ukraine for slower heavier ground forces...

The British Army has now dwindled itself down unable to sustain combat on a large scale. They are highly trained but their inability to control the Helmand and Basra has shown how unreliable they are. Their constant downsizing has hurt their overall capability.
Incorrect. The modern charactar of conflict, the joint strength of NATO and modern battlefield technology, does not require the West to hold massed armed forces of previous wars. You link 'conflict' and Basra/Helmand, however these should be separated. Basra/ Helmand should be considered under a separate heading, counterinsurgency, which is a wicked problem, defined as a problem you cannot solve (with firepower) you can only manage. It is a problem of no fixed answer (like a bayonet to conflict) and is the source of much debate. The high level of live fire, joint (both in the multinational and capability sense) training conducted by NATO will ensure any opponent (in a conventional conflict you mention) is defeated swiftly. If NATO rolled into Ukraine, NATO would defeat the Russian forces land, sea and air within a matter of weeks if not days.

As someone who lives in Colchester I love seeing the paras and working nearby I get to see the Apaches, Chinooks etc aswell love it!
It's funny you say that because I spent around half a day in Colchester and already saw about 8-10 paras within a span of like 3 hours.
