This will actually improve both recruitment and retention. People need to keep this in context though when making smart ass replies. Are the recruitment offices going to be overflowing? No. Are contracts going to be renewed left, right and centre? No. It will help though. People like basic autonomy. A lot of people feel more confident with facial hair.
And they'll get a great seal on respirators if in a theatre where chemical and biologicals are used right?
BBC report it as "after years of discussion"
"Should we allow beards"
"Yeah"
Years later.........
There are folk with really sensitive skin that can't shave often or end up with bright red necks and rashes, be good for them, though if anyone was considering the army and got to the "Oh I can't have a beard I don't think I'll join" then the job probably wasn't for them.
am sure that will bring in loads of new recruits lol 😂😂
Yes there will be obvious rules. but I think it will be a good thing. I don't think everyone will grow one.
You're bloody right there m8!
Am 30, sound 20, look 12. Can't even f*cking grow a bit of scruff 😂😂
@@J8433t 😂😂😂
A lot of the old boys in my unit aren't doing it because they are so painfully old school🤣
I think the fact most ex soldiers grow beards when they leave says it all. You look better with a beard than without. Probably more comfortable and an easier life not shaving daily.
plus I’ve never understood why a man wants to look like a woman anyhow?
They don't just grow a beard, they wake up early, get showered and shaved and then realise everyone else is asleep and the shops are still shut, so they dunno what to do with themselves, sit watching absolute guff on the TV till folk they know wake up at some point that routine gets broken up, starts with not getting up so early not shaving is usually part of that, its something that normalises them back into civvie street.
Hey, mate thanks for the update. Do you think this will drastically improve retention and or recruitment numbers? In any substantial way - few thousand?
I’m joining the army because I can keep my beard - nobody said ever.
The guy in the video says's it's a pain shaving every day well what about maintaining a neatly trimmed beard which does take longer
It's just a shame none of them have the testosterone to grow a beard
Thank god the US armed forces are still against beards except for a neatly trimmed moustache. They always look smart in uniform unlike our lot who support scruffy facial fair
Sorry lads this won't help recruiting, the root cause runs much deeper, Starts with Capita and ends with Schapps. British soldiers at one time or another, in the Army's 400 year history, have had massive moustaches, long hair and beards, this will not save it from the ultimate damage caused by Diversity, Equality and Inclusivity targets!
If I cant have a 5 aclock shadow then I guess thats another reason I wont join the army, not that id make a good soldier anyway with my hearing XD any more than a five a clock and the patchiness starts to show, but a full clean shave I look like a mong
Getting you ready for all your new Muslims!
Well Most Arab men have beards don't they and Britten is, after all, a fledgling Arab nation, so it was going to happen at some point.
Let men have long hair, why not….
women can and certain religions can and it obviously doesn’t impact your job….
Let’s all rock beards and pony tails and whilst we’re at it let men pierce their ears and wear makeup….. one rule for everyone or none at all
😂😂👍
Yeah look at the Dutch army, they had massive pony tails and they regularly beat in the CAT trophy at Hohne in the 80s and 90s
Beards look scruffy. Absolutely the wrong decision. This country has gone to the dogs.
That’s your personal opinion. I think clean shaven looks scruffy. That permanent mark people get on their skin from shaving everyday looks terribly scruffy.
Clean shaven looks scruffy 😂😂😂@@stretfordender11
@@paulmorgan121 That permanent mark people get on their face from shaving daily for 20 yrs looks so scruffy. Sorry mate.
Ignore Stretford, he's clutching at straws. He's also probably a homosexual. Beards look awful. End of.
That's your personal opinion. I'm in the reserves, and I find it painful to shave after 2/3 days
"There are people out there who haven't joined the army because they want a beard".... I think to do any job properly you need to be more interested in your job than you are in your beard.
I wonder if or when they will change the way they conduct the medical screening for recruits. Currently they review your GP records and can then reject you without even meeting you in person. I mean it's a bit unfair when your GP has recorded your notes inaccurately. And surely rejecting people for "a history mental health" and "anxiety", when in fact there is nothing wrong with them is a bit outdated now.
If not been allowed to wear a beard puts you off joining, you're looking at the wrong career!
@@johnlawson4605 Well yes. That's what I just said.
Works poorly with beards and gas masks.
British army LOL
Disagree with this, more lowering of standards. It's a desperate grasp at trying to get more recruits because it's trendy to have a beard at the moment.
“Lowering of standards” but many people think beards look smarter than being clean shaven. I personally think that it’s easy to tell a person who’s shaved everyday of their life by a constant mark on their face from it. It’s best to let people have the choice. Most under 40s who don’t have facial hair these days just can’t grow it.
@@stretfordender11 I'll agree to disagree, it's a a bit of a coincidence that numbers are low in the Army so standards have changed to meet the current trends of having a beard 🙄.
@@davidsayer3325 that’s what I mean, it’s all an opinion. You are correct with this though but it was always to do with fashion. Posh people(officers at the time) wore moustaches when the rules were set and moustaches were kept. Moustaches look hideous but because the aristocracy had them 130 yrs ago the army kept them.
I don't know if I am spending too much time watching the news but it seems likely we will require a much much bigger military over the next decade. I imagine this won't be the only concession to increase recruitment.
Increases reservists definitely. It usually takes longer than a week for any man to grow even facial hair. Sometimes a month. So why would you sign up to shave for a few hours a week, ruining the rest of your week regarding your facial hair. My mate misses training and weekly nights if he has something social going on at the weekend such as a wedding or trip away just so he can have facial hair on the weekend.
@@stretfordender11 I think your friend needs to get a life
@@Pius-XI just be honest and say you can’t grow a beard so don’t want others to grow one.
@stretfordender11 Somehow, I don't think I'll ever be jealous of a man with a beard. Besides, ANY man can grow a beard, not like it's a special superpower, that only the select few pocess.
@@Pius-XI that is simply not true. Many men can’t grow beards.
New model army aka the tar brush army. Now we know why they’ve been boating them over on mass .. off to the Ukraine? ’
The American civil war look , will smoking pipes and chewing tobacco come back into fashion?
I should hope that none of the women turn up with beards....
Makes me happy to see the racially diverse representation on the graph. I'm sure other countries in Africa, Asia, and South America are just as happy to let foreign ethnic groups have overrepresentation in every facet of society.
How do beards effect gas mask ?
Blatantly piggybacking off someone else's comment 😂😂
@@J8433t ?? .. I just asked a question...??
Hardly at all. Its a myth. Plenty of people pass the seal test with a beard
@@Jesse-m7l2f thank you
@@paulmorgan121 just poking fun 😉
