If you buy your own empty half pans or full pans for watercolour when you come to sharpen these pu the sharpenings into the watercolour pans and drop a small amount of water onto them. Once wet they will melt together and then leave it to dry and you can use them like you would watercolours.
@@patriciamoore7414 I use a standard cheap metal 2 hole sharpener as I couldn't find a crayon sharpener here but I'm guessing since these are essentially just crayons that a crayola sharpener would work fine.
Gem, this has been a real joy to watch!!!!! Your own expressiveness as you did the fish painting, especially as you'd just said that you had very little time for your own art, actually brought happy tears to my eyes. Thank you!
Wow ..... I need to get me a friend like Ashley. Thanks Ashley!!!! Great job Gem, I am a huge fan of Caran D’Ache products they are so darn nice! Those might be crayons but they are adult crayons!!!! Those colors are beautiful, I like the fact I can also use them with my colored pencils if I choose too. Hope everyone is staying safe. I’m a night owl and I’m off to bed.
I adore my 15 colour set of these! I was gifted them by a friend and have found that if I rub a bit of the crayon on the tin I can mix my own colours so the smaller set is ample for me. They remind me a bit of gouache when mixed with water & when added to watercolour pieces they can make interesting effects. Looking forward to watching this video.
I was just watching a review of these. When she dipped her brush onto the crayon, she took the color off the flat end so she didn't mess with the pointed end... just in case you have the point just how you like! Also, she applied colors she wanted to mix onto a piece of glass, next to one another, and mixed those colors together to make another unique color.
There‘s some coating on the tip of the Neocolors which is why the color on it looks a little bit paler and it may be a little bit more difficult to pick color directly from the crayon. If you remove it, you will get a more vibrant color quite easily.😉 You can sharpen them with a normal sharpener if you want and use the shavings afterwards for coloring, too, so no waste there, too.
Gem, what a lovely video! You did a wonderful job working with these neocolor ll’s. I started with a 10 stick set then 15 then 30! If you don’t want to bottom layer to reactivate come you can heat set it with a heat gun. It works pretty well. Also loading up a brush with color from the stick off of the crayon or from a pallet you scribble on you can get very fine details on top of other fields of color without reactivation of the color underneath. So layering or glazing is possible, it’s not as easy as with watercolors but it can be done with these crayons. Thanks again for sharing a wonderful video with us. Please take care and be safe.
Howdy Gem, I like the Neocolor 2 crayons with Jane Davenport's rainbow coloured container with little 15mm x 15mm hinged lids, meant for coloured ink, as I sharpen them into it, with the M & K German double hole size, brass round sharpener, in the larger blade hole. You can do this easily, cuts like butter, and getting a point is really fun, detailed, and saving the shavings is also fun. In kindred spirit, Eliza Australia x 29th of September 2022
I bought 15ml clear glass bottles with droppers. Put a chunk of pastel in and filled with warm distilled water to make it liquid watercolor. I also put it in pans to dry out. I just love my neo 2......
I really loved your video ! I have the 15 set as a travel set but I wanted a bigger set for home ! Your exploration of these crayons was very eye opening! I can’t wait for mine to come ! And your fish looks amazing !
Not speaking from personal experience of course because of my phobia for wet media of any kind, but I have also seen these neocolor IIs used by “scratching” them onto a textured palette - either individually or two or more colors together - then activating with a water brush and applying to the paper. This allows you to easily get into tight spaces for one and also to mix your own colors before applying. Love the fishy. Always nice to see Enchanted Forest getting some attention.
I bought open stock 3 colors red and pink. See if I like them and used them few months. Then bought 10 more last month. And now choosing next 10 in open stock.Colors are beautiful.

Newest purchase was Tombow Brush markers. Not ever gotten any alcohol markers. Outta my league. Lovin what you do & I thank you from afar. 😊🤩
Now I need these.😁 I've been looking for something to use for my backgrounds. I hate using pencils cause it takes to long to build up the color. I just looked them up on the US Amazon and I can get a 10pack of the basic colors for $15.99. I think I'll start with that and try mixing my own colors. Thank you so much for the review. Morning Kate, I’m glad you enjoyed the video, I hope it has helped to take your mind off things this morning. There is a lot of moo-ing going on just now as all the animals are going out to grass after a long winter being housed. They are having a ball! Thanks for commenting 😊
I’ve used Neocolor Iis for coloring book backgrounds with various levels of success. You are off to great start with them. A light application , working in layers, and touch up using them like water colors with a brush worked best for me.
I love how you sing along and make all the "fun" noises! It always makes me smile and giggle! Happy Easter to you from Montana USA! Love your videos and think I will put these on my wish list too! Love your picture.
They make a plastic palette to use those with, basically you use the crayon on the palette and then use a brush to mix colors and to get detail. ;) been eyeing these myself... and a little goes a long way with these.
I love the Neocolor II crayons. I can be quite impatient at times and as much as I love colouring pencils, sometimes I want to use something that will cover more space quickly and I've found these scratch that itch perfectly. I love how they blend and how it initially looks like a 5 year old's colouring page and transforms into something quite impressive.
Neo ll’s are awesome. You can set the colors with mod podge! I learned this technique and many others from Karen Campbell. The colors are so vibrant. Your fish came out great!
One of my favorite techniques is scribbling color onto a piece of plastic (caran d’ache does sell a palette for this) and then picking up the color with my brush. I use watercolor pencils the same way.
I always consider adding the NeoColor IIs to my collection but they are hideously expensive in the states. Like twice what you would pay in Europe. And more thank Inktense. They really are lovely though. Funny story, my friends kept fish. Lots of fish in huge 150 gallon tanks. One of them kept fancy gold fish, including one named Leviathan that liked to cuddle in the palm of my friend's hand. But there were always those that wanted to leap out of the tank. Onto the floor. Where the cats were. We called those ones TSTL (too stupid to live). Your leaping gold fish reminded me of that.
oh no, like Darwin awards for fish. I had a tiny little african frog who escaped the tank. I found him, rinsed off hair and lint, but he was never the same and didn't survive
@@recoveringsoul755 exactly like that. The other tank had an eel that would do it constantly. But eels can love out of water for a bit because they get this slime coating. So it would be a wiggly slimy hunt.
