Hey that's me, I'm your thumbnail! lol Good to meet you. I had a blast despite my mediocre results. I've done Redbud Vet Fest 3 years in a row and found Glen Helen to be the better track and way more star studded although the party at the Redbud is more rowdy. See ya next year!
Hey great! Was hoping you caught this. Interesting about Redbud, that you like Glen Helen better because I know Redbud is a great track. Yes hope we meet again next year. God willing. And Thanks for the great thumbnail!
@@lowbuckgarage1 Redbud has character but it breaks down way worse than GH. The biggest problem I have with Redbud is that even safe jumps like the table tops are difficult to clear and Larocco's leap is not even on the cards to attempt. That makes me feel like less of a human, not being able to be at least close to jumping all the jumps.
I've been watching some of your videos, bummer about the shock. I entered my first motocross race at 47 years old, quite the experience. Racing is a lot of fun, harder physically than it looks, and makes you a much better rider. I'm 61 now, haven't raced in over ten years but watching your videos makes me want to get on my bicycle first and get some strength in my legs. Thanks for posting your videos, maybe I'll see you at Glen Helen!
@tombolton3278 I've been a brick mason since I was a kid so I've kept in decent shape but these old knees man. I live in Utah, the only time I've been to Glen Helen was with a buddy who races Autocross (?). It's a timed dirt course for cars. The things I love about racing motocross are all the great friends you make and how in the moment you feel out on the track. Your videos capture a lot of that. I like the narration, very relatable. Your progression with the 230 is fun to watch and also unique. I'm 6'3" and 220 lbs so I twist the throttle a lot while I'm watching you go up those steep hills! Mainly though your videos show how many of us could be doing things we aren't thinking about. Keep up the good work.
@lowbuckgarage1 I still have my 07 CRF450R. The reason I stopped racing was where I moved to and a job I worked. Very tiny town working for a youth program. Loved working with those young people but decided to go back to masonry working for myself. All that being said I have to agree with you, I'd probably have more fun riding an XR.
Great video Tom ! Makes me wish I could race again 👍 Two new knees and my days are done. The mental pain of not being able to ride hard again is like taking the bottle from a drunk 🥴 It was my favorite thing to do. I do have great memories tho.
Keep going. Don’t quit. I have two knee replacements a hip replacement and I’m recovering from a shoulder replacement and I can’t wait to get back out there. Nothing you can break that can’t be fixed as far as new joints. Ride till you can’t do it anymore.
I will become 50 this year and I have a cry 230 in process of becoming a copy of your bike. You are a big inspiration. We might race each other in the near future !!
Whoot woo Tom!! Great interviews and Go Pro moments. Reminds me of my old Desert and ATV days before my numb hand days. 😂 "Loved" Dangerous Debs cameo appearance. Fun. I gave it a like 👍 and some bucks!$ Great job 👏
Stumbled upon this channel about a year ago when I bought my 04 Honda 230, I got mine for about 800 in similar condition to yours and I was stoked to see someone pushing the limits of this bike, already looking into some of the mods you’ve done to this bike but leaning more towards enduro/trail riding 🤙🏽
Oh that 230 brings back memories, I had on with a Works Preformance shock, Cartridge emulators and all the mods u could get. Im short and it was a great woods bike
Great job, bad start may have saved your day! An excellent remake of "On Any Sunday". Impressive to ride those frightening hills on a borrowed high HP beast... you're certified crazy!:) Yea be glad that ain't no 500cc ya gotta re-kick. It's a good motivation to train harder...and maybe learn new riding techniques ...grip with your knees. Time to do some core work...easily within 10th place with a little work.
I was #55 TC 125 that got taken out/crashed in front of you. All good, I got up and kept going albeit pissed off. The other guy got carted. I didn't know the first race was DNF'd! Well done you! Great job, thank you!
you're right, i'm the Ralf in your video. Hope we will see us again in GH in november . My brother got 3rd in the 70+ class and we all want to come back and race again at the world vet@@lowbuckgarage1
The YZ lacked the super low RPP grunt I was expecting and used to, but from mid to top end it just kept pulling hard - forever. Shifting not spectacular. Handling, high speed stability - phenomenal.
@@lowbuckgarage1 There is the 80/20 rule, but at our age, the bike is like what, maybe 5% and the rider is the other half(Yogi ;) ). I've got an '04 200SX w/YZ front end and pwr mod's, a '22 YZ250F and a '24 300SX. I can make the bikes turn the similar lap times. One could say it's a skill. lol
Makes me sad when I watch guys needlessly crash themselves in the first turn. At this age hitting the dirt is never worth it. Take your time and let the group spread out a little and then start racing.
Like riding your tried and true, steady Eddy horse that you’re comfortable on, then jumping on a wild stallion. You don’t know each other, he’s very fast but unpredictable.
Hey pit neighbor! Tom I parked next you in the Winnebago from Florida, just found your channel, great job man! Maybe see ya next year!! Like and a Sub for a cool moto dude. You're just as nice in person as you are in the video!
I know right? Couldn’t believe how bad I was lugging the motor. The midrange hit was so hard I kept hesitating to let it rev out. I did better in moto 3.
Yes horsepower is a problem, it’s maybe 30 if I’m lucky. I’m only about $3500 into it so that’s not bad, it’s been a fun project. Next project is likely a 250 2stroke CR or YZ.
No doubt, the danger is real. With so many choices and options to ruin our lives, drugs, crime, drinking, video games, porn, endless entertainment, cults, idol worship, you name it, it’s so hard to choose.
Thanks!

Another great vid Tom and just shows the great camaraderie in the dirt bike community. Keep the 230 going hope you got the shock sorted.
Thanks 👍

Yep feeling pretty blessed these days, at least you can still wheelie down the street on that KTM!

They say it’s time when, you can’t sling your leg over the saddle anymore. Sounds about right.
After healing you’ll feel a lot better and riding will be easier.
Love the vidieo. Im 63 years young love the sport much love from oregon
Excellent riding
Very cool.
Bucket list 60 +
As always I enjoyed your video. I had a 2016 YZ250f and loved it!
Great edit Tom. Great weekend.

Didn't sign up for art class, it's motocross. love it.

He redeems himself in moto 3.
Wow great video Tom I enjoyed it very much .16th I would of been happy just to finish looking forward to next video.
Not too bad, the YZ250 was definitely a HUGE upgrade, you handled it well for your 1st time out.
Thanks for your passion and comentment.

You Rock...would love to line up next to you and just race like there's nothing to prove.
Good work mate!
About to turn 77, raced half a century ago (lol) but still mid the bar to bar combat, coming in with the ends of the grips torn off.
I'm 59 and still have my restored 89 cr 250 . Retired novice motocross loca
The only thing I remember about the 89 cr250 - fast but was first year of the new USD fork, terrible forks but they can be fixed.
@lowbuckgarage1 you are correct! But for some reason with maintenance mine are still original and amazing!

But I now see that despite crashing, you still caught and passed me, just before the checkered flag! Good job!

Absolutely!

Sound advice, although working your way through the pack from the back has its risks too.
is 30hp on ur bike not enough power? or do you need a lighter better handling bike? How did you like the bike you burrowed?

I hope you cleaned spark plugs before you gave the bike back, because I fear they were fouled from not revving engine.
