I have a nicer 2007 CR450F that I started racing in the Sportsman class (beginner for older riders). I'm 61 and started motocross when I was 47. When I got some new knees I'm going to enter 60+ class. Haven't raced since 2009 but watching these makes me want to join you all!

This was a good watch and I really appreciate your posting it! "Knife to a gunfight" is right! Great run on the 240, too! I raced Vet World's at GH in 2021 and it was truly the hardest race weekend I have ever experienced, including having raced Mammoth MX a couple of times back on the 2000's where you simply can't breathe! But enough about that, I really liked your talking about why we do it more than anything else. I ask myself that all the time. I'm 59 years old and racing in the 60+ Novice class (at Glen Helen) on Jan 7. I've raced 50+ for, you guessed it, about 10 years and never won a race. I'm both excited and nervous about it, like anytime I line up. and it should go great. But it could also not go great. The great mystery. I have nothing to prove to anyone but myself, and I will keep trying. What a sport. Thanks again, and when I hear that horn, I'm sure I'll know what to do! -Midpack Mike

I'm also 62,I raced pro back in the 80's,I won 2 125 Quebec provincal championships in Canada and finished 2nd and 3rd in the 250 class in 1984-85,I also did the montreal and Toronto and Vancouver supercross races, you can see a clip of the Toronto one,but you are right about the training, you have to be in shape just to ride,I can't run 8 miles in 56 minutes anymore or do 50 push ups(I do 25),my hips and knees are not that good anymore and I get numbness in my hands after 10 min, doctor says I have carpial tunnel problems, anyways I kept 1 250,and I have that bike in my basement with my trophys,I still have 5 bikes,in my house an 85 250,94 250 and 3 kx 450's an 07,10 and an 18,I still ride but don't race anymore,I hope for you that you do keep riding, its good to still have something at our than sitting around doing nothing waiting to die,I really respect people like you because you know how hard it is,and you did that race on an underpowed and poorly suspended bike! wow! My last racing season was 1997 I finished 3rd in the plus 35 vet pro class championship ,on my 94 kx 250,

Good for you man! I fractured my L1 at Elsinore 17 yrs ago. I race Carlsbad and Saddleback many time in the 70's . Got hurt really bad in a desert race in n"86" never got hurt when I was young. But after that crash at Elsinore I swore off dirt bikes. Here I am 68 years old doctor say I need to exercise to get my good cholesterol up. So I bought a Husky 501 as a dual sport type bike, well I'm already messing with the suspension because it just doesn't work for me. This has been a humbling experience for me because I was like a class A rider, my brain is there but my body is like 50-100 behind the bike luckily I still retain a little muscle memory and that is saving my ass. My wife thinks I'm crazy witch maybe I am, but like you said "why do we do this"? Because it gets you off the coach!
Cool Video, Maybe I'll see you at Glen Helen.
    Best Regards,
    Karl

MX is the hardest, most physically demanding sport out there IMHO. Was 53 I've been riding Since I was 8 , never really raced bikes except
For with my friends at tracks we mayed around
    Ware I live in NOR-CAL I
Love my XR , saw this and had to comment because U made me think about racing again
I've been trying to get around to it for almost 45years or so my XR is way too much to race MX with but I've got options my XR'S pretty tricked out, but I thinking about a good XR 250 would work, I like the bike U'er riding the idea of pumping one up is what I like to do, I've got
7 dirt bikes but none race able but I do ride my XR alot in the woods
And fire roads , main thing is you're doing it and thats what counts, the comments on your
Video sound like U've inspired alot of old guys
To atleast go RIDING and thats what counts,
Because U know Y, because OLD GUYS AND
    XR'S RULE.

Love it. You must be from SoCal. Been there, although not to World vets with Dave at MX Vacations twice.
Let me know. I'm old as dirt myself. If you ever get to the East Coast, let me know. I live right behind ClubMX and I can show you around!
Shoot, you make me feel like I should go do this race once. I don't like those dudes attitudes on the line though. So what. Your at least racing out there....

Now, at 56, I stare at my bike as a screensaver...anxiously waiting for the new season to get here so I can get back out there and brap it up. I think it's in the DNA...a flaw somehow? lol

Congratulations for being a successful biker without crushing yourself through the years. I broke my back and had a spinal cord injury in 95 but on a Bultaco 360 El Bandido I hit something in the Hayfield it was in The Tall Grass I didn't know it was there but the Lord made me walk again and go back to work I'm a walking Miracle. But I've had my motorcycles and horses afterwards and built my log cabins. Blessed. With that said I still have paralyzed ankles. What would you recommend for a motorcycle for me I have to go secondhand I've never had a Honda I was thinking honda xr 250 with the lights. what do you think? I have to keep my feet on the ground I'm 5 ft 9 appreciate your advice. I had a Kawasaki KLR with everything and the kitchen sink even the aluminum pan years everything crash bars windshield handguards low seat it was still too tall and too heavy for Offroad. What do you think of the 07 te 450 Husqvarna? Compared to the Honda xr. I just want a trail bike low to the ground and lightweight

Glad you’re still able to ride. I feel pretty blessed that I’m able to ride at all. The CRF230 is a great bike for guys 5’9” like you and I, although I did raise my bars 1” and moved my pegs back 1” as well (much better! Video coming) Not familiar with the Husky lineup.
The CRF250F would be a good choice - a bit heavy but that 4 valve head has more power potential.
