I'm 69 and enjoyed every second of your race, I even fell off the chair as I attempted to pick the bike up, this is what racing is all about, the little 230 did you well, though with a few more horses, you'd have either got an 8th, or a trip to the Hospital, 11th was fantastic. I loved it.
I’ve promised my wife I’ll hang up the helmet for good at 65. But I would be the new kid in the 65+ class. We’ll see.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Duuuuude! Excellent effort!! I SO thought you had a 10th there! A bit if tuff luck there at the end but you killed bud! 👍👍
I'll be 62 in April and this is VERY encouraging to see!
@@kayuwakesport Yeah tough luck. Couldn’t figure out what happened in the last turn, but looking back at the video I think i instead got rear ended in the last turn.
@@lowbuckgarage1 it was that damned TEXAN! 😱🤣
Seems a 'knife 'can do quite well in a 'gun fight' if used the right way. Very smooth, consistent and skilled riding, well done young man.
In fairness the guy thought it was a 150, I guess the moral is "never judge a bike by its tank covers" I agree about the riding, it was very good and that must have helped push him up the order.
Well done good man. I am 64 and use to run hare scrambles 40 years ago. You did great.
Fantastic ride! You got up and back on your bike quicker than I’ve ever seen! I can see how bad you still want it. Awesome job.
Thanks! 👍
The double T-bone was coming...
I stopped riding for over 25 years and just picked it up again a few years ago at 51. I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow just watching this. Good job.
I have a love-hate relationship with this sport. It’s like an abusive relationship, though it hurts me again and again, I keep going back to it.
Thank you! It was great to experience the race with you. I enjoyed seeing your BREATHE reminder!
58 used to race. I loved every minute of your motto. I was hoping you would get the pass. Great ride!!!!!
Nice ride, brother! Really impressive. Glen Helen is no joke and you killed it out there. Wonder what that guy thinks of your "knife" now. LOL
He finished 14th heehee
BRINGER OF MEMORIES ...!!!! THANK U. !! I CAN SMELL THE GAS AND FEEL THE DIRT ON MY FACE. !!😆😆 started racing in 1973 ...indian dunes and the circuit. Joined the END DOES m/c club .. Thank you.
I’m thankful I can still ride at all.
That’s super Kool my friend. Great ride 👍🏻👍🏻🏁
When I was 16 years old after all the head injuries and many other injuries the doctors told me I would never ride or race again.
At 57 years old now I started racing again this past February and I’m having the time of my life 🤠
Take it slow my friend. I had walked away from the sport 25 years ago and have had a couple injuries since coming back at 59. Better be in shape.
Great video. I started racing in the early 70s on CZs then Bultacos. Retired in 1984 on Husqvarna. Now I want back on the track. What a great way to stay in shape! Thanks for the vid and inspiration.
Thanks. It’s the only thing I’ve found that motivates me to stay in shape, out of necessity!
Great race! I was twisting my wrist so many times trying to push you to 10th. Thanks for sharing!
How fun Tom. You’re video producing skill are a gift for us all to enjoy. Awesome.
Thanks Donna! I’m kinda stuck in the moto-rut for now but it’s one of the things I do love. Thanks for watching. And Happy new year!
@@lowbuckgarage1 You’re good at it and it is refreshing to do sports we enjoyed so much in our younger years. I’m still hoping to do a ski run in my coming years. It’s been a while.
Good job! love the charge at the end. I was in the 45 novice class. Those ruts were really gnarly. They were much deeper than they appear in the video.
Thanks!
Yes MUCH deeper than they appear!
I was rooting for your top 10 finish!!!! Bloody awesome video. I'm 55yrs old and still riding dirt, adv, road and even moto. Full cred to you mate from Aussie down under. Love it.Don't stop!!
Maybe next year. Maybe a little nitrous for the starts might help. 🇺🇸🇦🇺
Wow, you did great on the modified 230. The guy in 10th was on a much bigger bike. Congratulations!!!
Nice job man! I ride 55 novice, have been racing the vets for the last 12 years, always a blast!
Right on!
Much respect. Appeared that the bigger bikes would out horsepower you on the long straights but you made up lots of time in the turns and more technical parts of the track. Awesome job. I’m going to have to find your bikebuild video now.
Thanks. More videos to come on the present build.
I rode MX in the late sixties and had 81 trophies when I switched to enduros. I'm now 74 and I love watching the vets ride. thinking the rules should required riders to be on bikes at least as old as they are. This would mean the Vets would be on bikes manufactured in the 1940's. What a hoot that would be. I still take my KDX200H6F out on the trails on occasion.
At 67 this year would still ❤ to ride my 250 Bultaco.
Best to you Scott🏁
Great ride! For guys in our class, carrying momentum and not pooping out are more important than brute HP. I'm 63, started riding at 10 in SoCal, and have ridden the gamut from mini-lawnmowers to 125 Sachs->Cz to 250 Yam->Suz to 450 Suz->Hon and finally 350 KTM, which was probably my favorite. Not as brutal as a 450, but easier than trying to keep a 2-stroke on the pipe. I'm stuck in the Midwest now due to my job, and one of my regrets is that I never did a lap at Glen Helen. There's a lot more woods-flavored racing than MX here, and I recently got a '14 KTM 300XC-W to try battling the trees. First bike I ever had with bark busters! Remember - you don't stop riding 'cause you get old...you get old 'cause you stop riding!
So true.
At 62, AWESOME!! I'll be 62 this summer in July. I think I can but probably can't do what you did. Great job!!
I set what I thought was an attainable goal, top ten, I came very close to it, and I’m ok with that.
I loved it, great choice for a bike too! I rode the vintage two stroke race in October, I love Glenn Helen. I have 2004 250F, I agree, you can be much more aggressive and smooth with less power, I could never turn the lap times on my KX500. Riding a track is worlds away for bombing the desert sand washes and hills. I have to say, you were very smooth, great speed on those nasty down hills too. My son raced the world vet last year, that track gets horrendous! Once again, great ride, and love the channel.
Thanks and yes it’s a great track, really special.
Yeah nice race ! I'm 58 and just started racing this year in az .looking forward to this one in the future
Thanks!
The 55+ was tough. The 60+ was a little easier but not by much!
I’ve ridden this track a lot over the years. Oddly enough I always get my best finishes on the smaller bikes. I’ve raced 450 four strokes, 250 two strokes, and 125 two strokes my best finishes are on the 125s. My buddy gave me some good advice as we run in the open class. He says don’t get involved in horsepower wars with the 450s, just carry the speed and go around them. I can highly recommend this track if you’ve never ridden it before.👍🏼
I love this track. But I do think, with it’s sand and steep hills, it’s definitely a horsepower track. The 450s were walking away on the straights and uphills.
@@lowbuckgarage1
I used to race a 250 RM against the bigger 450s. It was pretty much on par with them horsepower wise. One day during practice I seized the engine and my buddy had brought out an extra bike for his son to ride that day, it was a CR 125. He said I could race it since I already paid my entry fee and his son wasn’t going to make to the track that day. I got a totals of 2 practice laps in before the race. This was a run what you Brung race and I got 29th out of 30 bikes on the start. I ended up with a third place finish. And oddly enough I wasn’t nearly as tired as when I rode my 250cc🤔 I don’t think that I’m fast on 125 but I think the fact that everybody was over 50 years old and wrestling 450 cc motocross bikes around I think they just wore out before I did.🤣
@@Dontnegotiatewithterrorist I used to race a cr500 back in the 80s. Too much bike for me to hang on to now, same for a newer 450.
Way to Go.,,, proved us older guys can still have it!!!
Nice ride. I love that track. Raced there a few times with mixed results in the 60+ class. Best thing I can say is the very first moto I ever raced there I won by almost 30 seconds. It was all down hill after that. Good video.
My buddy who was in his mid 40’s at the time was a A enduro racer. He would go to the local MX riding areas and smoke the guys with their latest and greatest bikes on an old XR200R he had as a play bike. Great job on that little thumper!
Hello from France,
Nice and smooth ride young man. You did a fantastic job on that bike. Considering how far you were after the start straight, you really made it happen.
I’m 60 y.o. And hope to come and race the Vet World Championship one day( better make it soon or it will be too late, lol).
Viva la France! 🇫🇷
Come! Come! You are most welcome here.
Awesome video collection of the 230. I had a new 2004 model when they came out and raced it, too. I only had the bbr springs front and rear and rejected the carb. I also only weighed 150 pounds back then. The bike does great on tighter tracks. And you’re right, it makes people really upset when they see theyre getting passed by a trail bike. I would get blown away on the national track at glen helen in the straights. On the tighter tracks (piru, vet track at glen helen, 395,) I would constantly give 1st place a run for their money. Keep at it. Your passion shows.
Thanks! Appreciate that. Sometimes more fun to ride a slow bike fast than vice-versa, right?
What an awesome looking track! Great footage.
Man that was awesome,i was shouting you on and damn my heart was pounding when you came off but jeez I’ve never seen someone get back on so quick, great ride 👍
Thanks👍 for watchin’
Thanks so much for posting the 3rd race of the plus 60 Nov. race. I was in the race also (#52 Ken from Warman, Sask. Canada) The event is awesome (4th time at it). Great job with your honda 230 project..👍 You had a very good 3rd moto..!
Hi Ken, I see in the results that you beat me by one position in both motos 1 and 2. You were right in front of me!
I had some video problems in motos 1 and 2 unfortunately, so nothing to see there. However, if you view my CRF150R fork install video, near the end, there is one quick clip of you and I, photo finish at checkered flag in moto 2. It’s definitely you and you beat me by inches! Pretty cool shot. Hope to see you there next year.
Good job man! Be proud of yourself Bro!👍
So much respect!!!
Outstanding job!!!
Thanks!
THAT WAS AWESOME. Watched it (lived it) end to end.
Awesome ride and you made. You did an awesome time. My last race at Glen is back in 2009. Great video and you guys are having blast.
My neck hurts from trying to get that thing to corner! lol
Great video
😀👍
Great race tough track and you almost had 10th place wow 60s guys still rock!! Great vidio.
I could not stay in my seat !Epic ! I just came in from rust patching rocker panels to warm up now,I want to go ride .
Thanks you give this 62 yo hope!
Freaking awesome! Way to go!
Well done 🎉 my friend 👍 fantastic effort & enjoyable watch! I was a rider in 80s & 90s & would jump on a crosser right this moment if I could 😂 let’s see some more old timers giving it a go cos it’s hard work out there!
Thanks and I would encourage anyone doing this sport to train hard, stretch daily.
Thanks for the videos....... Can't wait for spring in Indiana!
Great job!! I will be 62 in just a couple of days and have found the weight/height of a 450 more of a detriment as I get older. Love your concept! You survived Glen Helen, better than my two attempts!!
Thanks! So you know! Track gets pretty rough.
Keep on rocking in your 60’s.
Take it easy out there killer.
Grazie! Ho seguito i tuoi progressi e mi sono divertito con te! Bravissimo! (Ho anch'io la CRF 230 😃ma non corro, ho 72 anni).
You don’t need to race it to have fun, just ride it. Is it not a great bike?
Great job love the horn
The car horn was great fun.
Respect Sir, great ride
I’ve said this before I’ll say it again it’s better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Great ride, instead of poking at a 450 getting onto this 230 and going the distance is much easier. I’m going back to a 250f and parking the 450
Awesome! I’m 62, I would love to race again. My wife said no more races, MX practice only. Can’t blame her, too many injuries while racing. That looks right around my speed. Great race on a 230!
That was awesome, I felt like I was racing with you.
Great video! I’m turning 62 this year and may want to try the class you were in. Haven’t races in 20 years but that looked like fun!
Awesome! However I caution everyone who’s thinking about doing this, you better start stretching and training now, a year in advance or you’ll be sorry. The track is great but is much rougher than it looks.
@@lowbuckgarage1 I fully understand. I ride mostly single track rocky stuff in AZ now. In pretty good shape but not Moto shape😀.
I miss racing the Glen, now living in East Texas, was living in Baldy, track was close to home for me.
That was awesome thought u were going to get those last two guys. I’m the same age and raced in the 80s. Keep jammin bro
Awesome job Tommy boy you got lots of years ahead. Happy new year to you and your family.
Hey! Happy new year Jim! I’m still breathin and so blessed!
That was a rad finish!
Amazing, keep having fun and keep living life
Loved the horn honking. 66 years; drz400
Good racing is good racing and fun to watch no matter what you're on. I love flat track racing XR100's, you should give it a try! That ending was fantastic, I could tell you really wanted 8th and started pushing hard, I thought you were going to get them, I was twisting in my chair to help you turn!
So close. Next year, God willing.
That was AWESOME my friend ✊✌️😉
This is awsome great ride love the horn thanks for sharing I'm 45 now and hope to be out there at your age your a Ledgend
Thanks.
yes car horn was great fun.
Ya, we would love to follow along on the rebuild!
Coming soon.
Good race and better than I ever was
40 years ago at Indian Dunes when my dad was in his 30s and still competing in the Over the Hill Gang 30+ group, he overheard someone at the trackside one day talking about watching the Old Timers' 40+ race..."Constant boredom," the guy said.
My dad eventually ended up competing in the Old Timers' group later, as well. He still laughs about what the guy at the trackside said that day...
I used to say the same thing. Then one day I just realized how much I love this sport.
The video was very suspenseful...I enjoyed it!
Now I am almost 60 but cannot race because I am a single parent and have to be able to keep me and my daughter supported. I have tickets to A1 and A2 though!
@@DS-oi4wl Family first. I can’t afford to travel to either Anaheims this year, I’m jealous! Enjoy!
I used to ride at Indian Dunes all the time 40 years or so ago. Now, I'm 60 but I'm getting into riding more for the thrill of exploring on my DRZ400s.
Um...is the bike stuck in fifth gear?
I know right? I was luggin’ it waaaaay too much.
Crf 150 r forks and a clutch. I'm impressed 👍
Awesome!!!! Congratulations! That was fun 😁
Killer ride!!!
WHAT A RACE!!!!!!
That was great. Stamina becomes a factor. I'm 60 now, sold my cr500 now have a versy 300. Need to go on and off road. Time to enjoy a more reasonable pace
The Kawi Versy is a great bike, I hope to get one someday. It’s my #1 pick in adventure bikes. 650.
Watch til the end! Start lets him down. Well shifted sounds like an automatic! They should be on vintage bikes, probably not cossetting enough for old bones. I like that track, as its not too 'jumpercross'
Well done mate
As for the guy that said "why did you bring a knife to a gunfight" Id like to know where he finnished. Few things are more satisfying than beating guys using a 230 against 450"s. Rock on old timer! Much respect!
He finished 14th. Heheh
Dude that was awesome!!!
Hey, thanks!
Petty dang good mate 👍😁🔥
My favorite shoestring rebuilder goes motorcycle racing! What's not to like? Good job.
Thanks!
Shoestring is right.
Nice. I will have to make it down this year. I hear it is a fun event.
Excellent race! You had some really nice corners in there. I think you would have had to rail the last 2 corners on the outside to get by those guys. You never got passed though and thats dam impressive. I'm sure you pissed off a few on 450's when you went by.
Thanks.
Next year!
Nice job, a little more motor and top 10.
Thats cool 60 plus guys very cool attitudes on the start line...i used to make jokes an totally chill an that made every one else more nervous....i love the start most.....as a kid every one was trying race me we did a lot of drags starts type of races...my brain would go oh u want to have a go A... lets do it the more they talked the more i go into zen...an wait...see ya...for a play bike id love to have CRF 150 perfect light weight
I'm 62 and re-habing from reverse shoulder replacement surgery i hope to get back in the saddle sometime in the future
I had rotator cuff surgery 2 years ago. Took a year to heal 100%.
Sorry little Honda for calling you a slug and hope you will forgive me. Very impressed with your 11th place finish! The guy riding you is also pretty good!
The little engine that could.
Pretty good run there. Little more HP might have been nice, but it looked fun.
Yes, More horsepower next year. More Videos to come.
Nice ride old man pick up RMZ Suzuki for cheap dude 450 I picked up a 16 and I'm in love with it he never bites are so much easier to ride did great love your video goes to show growing old is mandatory growing up is optional I'm 60 thank you brother keep riding
Nice!! Thanks
Yeah buddy! Well done and you get the 'eye of the tiger' and hunt them big bikes down. The climbing power was so much better than last year. Pretty dialed in 'spensin too. Dare I say, the cornering speed looks better. Hey, where is some narration? No bike performance comments. I think it gives your vlogs a good feel(you're good at it).
For sure we feel cheated with only two Moto's bro. I guess the under dog factor over-rides watching a Novice race. LOL
I plan to do a narrated version soon describing the bike build and it’s performance, what went right, what went wrong. A top ten finish next year for sure.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Love it you should have pointed out when you passed the gunsliger
Ha! Yes!
Hope you got some joy from that amount of views)
Huge respect.
Yes I did!
Thanks for watching.
Great effort...I was yelling last lap....catch um...catch um.......then the wipe out....lol
Next time!
Yeah! good ride! looks like you did have a little bit more energy at this race
Greetings from Sweden!
😎
Thanks! I did train hard this year. 🇺🇸🇸🇪
Good Lord! What kind of camera are you using? The stabilization is PHENOMENAL!!
GoPro8 -4K - 24fps.
Thanks for watching!
Well done rider well done
GREAT RIDE you must have had a blast
Good work! Love the bike, you may have finished 10th had you not stopped for lunch.
Dirt sandwich. Terra firma a’la mode. Thanks!
Awesome!
Great ride, and nice sleeper bike. I'm 67 and I had to trade in my WR450F for a KLX300 this year. It seems to provide 2 objectives- it keeps me in the saddle, and out of the hospital, at least for now. I have NO plans of hanging up the riding boots any time soon even though my wife and I have a SXS, I much prefer 2 wheels...
Great video and ride, thanks for sharing. *Note to self, don't ever ask anyone why they brought a knife to a gunfight....
Thanks! KLX300 looks like a great bike, a little porky, but great potential. What is
SXS?
@@lowbuckgarage1 I rode hare scrambles and endures most of the time, never tried a motocross. SXS is a side by side, it's how I get my wife out after her stroke..

nice ride .......
The Kawasaki guy next to you on the starting line got a great start. Did he win the race?
Because you asked, I watched it again, and checked the scores. He finished 14th that race! He placed had 3rd in the previous race. His Texas buddy next to him, got 12th, right behind me! 😮 thanks!
