I would very much like to see this scoring system on all of your future hearing aid reviews. It would also be helpful to go back and score the top 6 OTC models you have reviewed in the past. 👍
Hi Brian, Just found out that here in Calif, 9.5% sales tax is added on OTC hearing aids. I did not pay any sales tax on the Jabra prescription type hearing aid purchased from Costco. This saved me $156,65 in sales tax.
Not always Scott. Bluetooth means they will connect to a phone, using Bluetooth. Once connected to the phone using Bluetooth, you can then control your hearing aids using an app or the iPhone software. This Bluetooth connection also allows streaming on more advanced Android phones and all iPhones. Short answer, not always
I just got back from Costco and they have a big display at the entrance for the Lexie B2 on sale until Nov. 12. My appointment is Nov. 11th and will see what they recommend.
They had a display of them when you walk in. It was the first time I had seen them there. They had one on display and then cardboard displays to purchase and they retrieve them from the back.
and my dog just literally ate the part I put in my ear canal right off of my hearing aids. I am so mad!! going to see about Audicus repairing them but maybe I'll take this opportunity to try some OTCs while they are getting fixed.@@HearingClub
Thanks for your help. Any reviews for mdhearing or nano hearing aids advertised on social media and TV. For my mom she's elderly no smart phone. Arthritis in hands .
Great content. I have 2 questions...1)Jabra Enhance Plus is on sale for $500. More worth it now? & 2)This one doesn't have wax guards. Should that be a real concern, or can they be cleaned daily to remove ear wax? I understand about not having a way to replace the battery, but $500. Wow!
Streaming sound quality is very important to me. My Costco Jabra Enhance Pro aids have horrible streaming audio quality from my iPad (nonexistent low frequencies and distortion at upper end). I always have to switch to earbuds for decent streaming quality and constantly often forget to switch back to wearing the hearing aids.
You can adjust the streaming sound with the jabra app equalizer. Yes the streaming quality is poor with the jabras but much better when you add low frequency gain with the equalizer.
@@HearingClub sadly equalizer has no detectable effect on low frequency. Am convinced that low frequency capability is simply nonexistent. Defective aids perhaps? My Costco hearing professional simply told me that I need to lower my expectations. If that is so, then I will gladly give up bothering to improve in-person speech hearing and just go back to always wearing earbuds to ensure high quality streaming audio.
The #1 feature I am looking for filtering out background noise in noisy environments like restaurants. The occlusion effect should be minimal. Anyone have any recommendations? I have mild to moderate hearing loss, so OTC is perfect for me.
You're looking for a device that programs the microphones so that the front phones are accentuated & the side phones are lessened. I have that on my Costco aids. It works great. I don't know if OTC aids have that level of sophistication.
James, prescription hearing aids like from Costco and help with that. With your loss, you will be ok getting away with an OTC hearing aids. The best OTC hearing aid we tried out so far is the Jabra Enhance Plus.
its a lot i know, my suggestion is to watch a lot of OTC hearing aid reviews to get an idea of what they have to offer and what you want in an OTC hearing aid.
Hi Brian, You mentioned Costco’s 3yr warranty on hearing aids. I have the ks-10.0 giving me lots of trouble. They only last an hr or two. Sound breaks up, I’ve had to remove them from my ears in order to hear! Wife asks “ Why can’t you hear anymore when you have your hearing aids in your ears?” I bought them 05/21 This is a manufacturer’s defect, right? Thanks, Tom I want a refund. Will Costco
If they are still under warranty, you can send them in and they will fix the battery life issue and hopefully this will clear up the issues. Since you are past the 6 month trial, you would not be able to get a refund, hope this helps.
Thanks for the great reviews and info. Your thoughts on the BlaidsX Micro Programmable CIC Hearing Aid? Programmable Agram, IP67 rating, $500 current price (was $700), but very few reviews so far.
Brian, Costco has ‘fixed and repaired’ my hearing aids so many times, the most recent time they said they ‘updated my charger’ and told me that “there is nothing else they can do, you’re already past your 6 months.” Hearing aids still won’t work!” These hearing aids ks-10.0 should come under the manufacturer’s warranty 3yr for this well- known defect correct? I can’t use them!
This comment isn't about this vid but a general question. I have Jabra hearing aids from Costco. They gave he a hearing test, I got the hearing aids and they adjusted them. Why don't they give me the hearing test again to see how well the hearing aids improved my hearing. I asked about this don't recall the reply but as I recall it didn't make sense to me. Thanks
Because we can't do a hearing test while you are wearing Hearing aids. We can't get the inserts in and wearing headphones over your hearing aids wouldn't work. This is exactly why we run the REM verification. However, we are able to do a verbal word recognition test just to see how many words you got correct vs Unaided.
To me hearing aid is 100% about voice/speech clarity. All these other things about bluetooth to TV, or other things are irrelevant. The hearing aid would be perfect even if it blocks out all musical instruments, for instance. Speech is the first and main reason anybody even starts to think about hearing aids. These other things are distractions and are significantly less important. Feels to me like these companies are focusing on all the wrong things if their devices ate not providing clear speech in most situations, but they are scoring points on other whiz bang features.
None, in my opinion, spund quality is super subjective and I try to keep these objective ad possible. What sounds good for me may not sound good to you. Good question though. When I do reviews, I mention how I think they sound but for this system, it just doesn't fit.
Typical number of hours use per charge should be included in your points list. Seems most OTC aids compare poorly with prescription aids battery charge use duration.
Purchased the top of line Jabra (at consultants suggestion) from Costco last August. I do not believe they adjusted correctly. Been back twice. How do I effectively communicate. They are distorting in left ear only. I’m getting a bit frustrated since I can’t really see what they are doing. My hearing is fine up up approximately 3500 Hz, drops dramatically after that point. Ears damaged from playing in a band in my early twenties. Help!
Tey a different fitter, request a different fitter. The person adjusting your hearing aids. We all have different experience levels. I would check the calibration, I would try another receiver, I would check the frequency lowering feature and shut it off If it was on. Ask for a different fitter.
Yes. Please build this system. It's the first of any rating plan idea that have come across. I'll be watching as it develops.
Thank you for your feedback my friend. I cant tell you how much I appreciate hearing from you folks.

Awesome, thank you for your feedback. Once I have enough OTC reviews, I will do that!
Wow thanks for this guideline! This is super smart idea and gonna be useful!!! Thanks Brian!
You bet!

oh wow. Ya i know in PA, theres no sales tax on Rx hearing aids.
I am learning. No Costco here but there is one in Myrtle Beach. I may join and go there.
You should! It’s worth it!
Does “Bluetooth” equate to “Streaming”? That’s an important feature to me in my prescription hearing aids.
Great video! Great list! ❤

That’s cool! Costco hearing aid center doesn’t deal directly with OTC. You have to buy that Lexie OTC online.
They had a display of them when you walk in. It was the first time I had seen them there. They had one on display and then cardboard displays to purchase and they retrieve them from the back.
Yes, please, present more reviews!
haha yes! im definitely working on it. It takes a while to make these reviews.
Fantastic idea!

$500 that is absolute great price! Snag it! It best OTC that we have tried and reviewed on in comparison to rest. Thanks for sharing!

The Jabra enhance doed not support Android. As far as I know.

from the videos I'm seeing (yours) it seems all the OTC hearing aids will not have a long life because their batteries aren't replaceable...
I would say they definitely won't last forever. That's a fact. But how long? I guess time will tell.
