I am simply trying my best to provide accurate, non biased information to help out folks that wear hearing aids. If you use any of these amazon links to purchase products, i get a TINY TINY slice of commision. Help a brother out! Love you guys!
You did a great job explaining this setup Brian! I sent you the original email about using the Roku as a streaming. I never left a comment here.
Don Hayden! Thank you sir!!!
Thank you thank you for this tip. I have Jabra Enhance HAs that stream to my iphone and was struggling with using my TV. Tried a bluetooth adapter and couldn't get the sound quality. So, ordered a Roku Express for $20 on Amazon for my 1080p older somewhat dumb tv,.Hooked it up in 10 minutes, downloaded the Roku app, changed the headphone setting ("private listening") and its great!! As I cut the cord about 8 years ago, I do a lot of UA-cam videos, which Roku had on its app list. I no longer have to watch videos on my phone! I suppose the only downside compared to Jabra's TV Streamer ($300) is if I have company and they want to watch TV - but typically not a thing in my home! Can't thank you enough and now subscribing!
Great info, thanks. I really appreciate the efforts you put into providing information. As a new hearing aid user I find your insight to be invaluable.
thats why im here, for your guys!
One of my favorite reviewers of hearing aid products, keep it up Sir, well done..
Wow, thank you for the support, this really does make my day seeing comments like this!
Great find! I've been using Roku's for years on every TV in the house, and I was going to use a bluetooth transmitter and connect my TV speaker out, but this makes it so much easier and less complicated. Thanks.
Glad I could help!
Thanks another well done video, I appreciate all your help on these videos.
That's what I'm here for my good sir. Glad to help!
THis is such a game changer! Thank you for this awesome tip for us HA wearers :)
Yes please do make a video on just hooking up the Roku. This would be of great assistance.
Copy that
I have an Apple TV system. Do you know if this Roku will work as just a streamer or it has to be used as the device giving the input to the tv and then streamed? . Love your channel. I didn't even know Costco sold HA's until I happened upon your channel....bought a pair of Jabra 20's at Costco and love them! Great service, great HA's and the price is excellent! Thanks.
my pleasure James. You have to be using the roku to watch tv to get it to stream. It won't work as a stand alone tv streamer without using it to watch tv.
Thanks!
thank you James! much appreciated sir!
Thank you thank you for the video. They got my juices flowing so I went and tried the Bluetooth connection on my fire stick and that works perfectly. Also went with the O on Chrome forecast box and that worked perfectly so now when I buy my new hearing aids at Costco I will tell him I don’t not need a streaming box. If you have a TV nowadays, they have Bluetooth bill trade-in so you should be able to connect to the Bluetooth from your TV to your hearing aids without any problems once again thank you you
Anytime James!
Great video, I love the Roku streaming system by far it’s the best, I’m familiar with the feature and it works great. However as you said the audio quality is not great on my Jabar Enhance Pro 20 but it works well, I actually switch To my AirPods for better which is ok for me as I only have mild to moderate hearing loss.
Nice!
My husband & I both have Phillips hearing aids. Can we use one Roku streamer or do we each need one on the same tv of course? Thanks. Enjoy your videos.
Thats a great question. I would download the roku remote app on both of your phones and see what happens when you both select the stream option.
Okay... I went ahead using your link and purchased the product. I have installed it.... but the device that shows up is something called Roku stick... not sure if that is what I want...but as I follow your instructions... I don't have the 'private listening' option... any idea what went wrong.. should I have purchased a different Roku product than the one on the link.. thanks
Which model Roku box among many on amazon I can purchase for connection to my Resound hearing aids?
I'm pretty sure any of them will work
As I understand it the Roku box is connecting to your phone. It sends the TV audio to your phone and your phone then sends that audio to your hearing aids. The Roku box is NOT connecting to your hearing aids. This is why the brand of hearing aid does not matter. If you can stream from your phone then the Roku can stream to your TV.
So, do you know whether having Apple TV 4k streaming box linked to Tv set can stream audio to your prescription hearing aids that are bluetooth instead of Roku streaming box
I haven't tried and don't have that apple thing. If I get time, I'll look into it.
I totally understand what you are saying about the extra listening devices. I have had hearing aids for years and have had many brands. If you have hearing aids how do you make your videos on your computer via Bluetooth? My phone clip died on me yesterday and I am very deaf and depend on Bluetooth for my PC. Is there a work around for this application. Yes, another phone clip is $259.00 I do have Windows 11 but not sure how far advanced they are for all hearing aids.
Great video. I noticed something else you mentioned which I found very interesting. You said that you sometimes use non prescription OTC hearing aids to watch TV because the sound quality is better. Why would the sound quality be better?
Only the streaming sound quality. Not the overall sound quality.
I just got my Phillips 9040’s 2 days ago and now I’m streaming through my Roku TV. It’s now time to disable Closed Captioning forever! Thanks for all you do.
I’ve been wearing Philips 9040s for a few months now. The streaming sound quality is exceptional. I seem to recall Brian mentioning this in his review of the 9040s.
no way! Thats great news!
well i wouldn't say exceptional but i do think out of all of the Rx Hearing Aids, the philips streaming sounds the best.
Thanks! +I didn't even have to buy anything.... just download the Roku app because I happen to have a Roku TV. Downloaded the app, connected it to my TVs and voila! I had streaming right to my hearing aid through my phone. I have had all this time and I had no clue. Thanks, once again!
What did you download the app to? Phone or iPad? If so the streaming is coming from your phone or iPad right?
My pleasure!
The streaming sound will go to whatever the app is on. Yes. And if your iPhone sound goes to your hearing aids, so will the roku.
When hearing the TV through the Roku device on headphones setting, is it possible for others to hear the TV normally through the TV speakers. This would be desired when watching TV with other folks who hear normally while I adjust my needed volume through the Roku.
Not that I’m aware of, just like I say in the video
I have Roku on both my tvs too but the roku app only streams audio to my phone not to my cheap, OTC non-programmable HA. Is there a way with Streamer or programmable HA to have both room audio on AND through HA at the same time (husband doesn't have HA) when I get better aids like Jabra 40?
I've had Earcentric HA from Amazon (😮) for a year and now am ready to upgrade. These are like training wheels. I found out what I want without paying $6k the audiologist told me I needed.
Your Channel is fabulous. Really appreciate you and learning about your detailed research more than you will ever know.❤
Can't find where to become a member just a one time $2.99 donation??? Thanks Brian wish you were in Ventura.
Omg thank you so much! So yes, there are tv streamers for specific Rx Hearing Aids. If you get jabras, you can get the proprietary jabra streamer, the same thing with philips, rexton, they all have their specific streamers. They are $250+ but they WILL allow the hearing aid wearer to get the audio from the TV streamed to their hearing aids and the other person that doesn't wear hearing aids will still hear the audio from the TV so you can BOTH have your own audio and control the volume separately. Maybe I should make a video on this. The 2.99 membership is the one I refer to. That would be huge and definitely help the channel, but it's 2.99 per month, and you can cancel anytime. Let me know if you have any more questions!!
couldn't get the company name of the earbuds you use. even the transcript didn't get it. please let me know
Very cool and informative show.
Can you please tell us when Costco is bringing Philips 9050 hearing aid?
Should be very soon but we don’t know exactly when. When they are available or I have any info on this, I will definitely let you all know right here on the hearing club channel
@@HearingClub Thanks again.
You are right, I have just about given up on watching movies on TV. This is great if it really works. With streaming to your HA's from you phone via ROKU does the sound on the TV (Speakers) still work?
He actually covers that in the video. Unfortunately the answer is no.
Thanks. DId not at the time finish watching the video but thats a bummer. Oh well.
@@dondgc2298
thanks for taking that one boss!
Thank you for this video regarding using a ROKU device. I have an older model but I tried it anyways after downloading the ROKU app and it works. However it only works when watching programs through ROKU, not cable programs. Am I missing something that I'm not aware of?
How do I stream to my HA while watching Xfinity cable programs?
Thanks again for your very informative and truthful information.
Unfortunately it only works when watching TV using the roku.
@@HearingClub That should be made clear right up front. All my tv content goes through AppleTV on 1 input but I have another input for my PC and another for HDMI connected to anything and another input to a blueray player ... (5 inputs). To have sound from all these going to hearing aids I use optical output from TV to HA proprietary TV Connector - but hope Auracast will eliminate that need one day.
Great video, but again, mine doesn't work. Can you please publish details: exact roku model, version of the app, version of the roku software... I've had both mine for a while and they may be old.
yes, when i get home and if i remember, i'll post the details
Just tested with Roku and great idea but How Can I still use TV Speakers for my family to listen. The Roku App turns off the TV Speakers or Surround System. I don't think the HA Proprietary Streamers do that. They allow everyone to listen. Please help with an idea!
You are right and I don’t know how to unmute the tv speakers.
Thanks for the info. However, what I need is a way to stream to my HA and also have the audio in the TV speaker. My better half is not willing to wear a headset just so I can stream the audio to my HA.
Another question: Can the Roku system stream to more than one device at a time, like the Auracast?
I had a similar problem. Unless your TV can stream to your hearing aids and play room audio for your family at the same time you will probably need to get an audio streaming device made specifically for your brand of hearing aids.
I'm not sure about auracast. Everything about auracast that I know is pure speculation since I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
@@HearingClub Auracast can broadcast to all devices that are within range. Pity there are only two models of hearing aid that are compatible.
Does this device work with an AB cochlear implant?
It will only work when you are streaming over Roku? Will not work with cable tv?
It will work when streaming with roku
my current tv setup allows me to listen on BT headphones while having the TV speakers on Mute, which my wife likes (trying to work in the room). This is on a DISH Satellite Hopper. Anyone know if this method would work similar, tv muted?
This method does mute the tv
Great video. But when I stream the Roku to my Jabra's it mutes the tv. My wife went nuts trying to turn the sound back on. Is there a way to stream to the hearing aids but also have the sound on the tv?
I have not found a way unfortunately
@@HearingClub Will OEM (philips etc) tv streaming devices for HAs also mute the TV? I tried the Roku out with my earbuds and it muted the tv also. It would be great if I lived alone, but the HUBS wants the sound through the tv.. LOL
@@northgeorgiagal6267 I have the Jabra Enhance Pro 2 with a TV streamer. When watching a movie, I control my own streamer's volume to my hearing aids with my phone and at the same time, my wife can control the TV volume with the remote control, without affecting the other. In other words, the sound to the streamer/hearing aids AND the sound to the TV operate independently and they they don't cancel nor mute each other. Hope that helps.
I bought the Roku unit and it works well with the Roku TV but it doesn't work with my cable channels or I need to know how to do it?
im not sure how to get it to work with the cable channels. if you aren't watching tv via the roku it probably wont work.
I have a Roku Streambar Pro and was not able to get the sound to play thru my Philips 9040 hearing aids. When you click on the Headphone app it will only play sound thru a headset, not broadcast the sound to your hearing aids. My soundbar was recognized and showed it was connected, and remote listening was turned on.
Oh that'd weird, i haven't tested it with a sound bar.
You can share your Roku sound with another person. If you are both using iPods or other compatible headsets or earbuds you can share your audio from the regular audio function on you iPhone or iPads (sorry android users). I tested this with two sets of AirPods streaming your video off my Roku. It did not seem to work sharing with my Jabar Enhanced Pro wo’s. This works for me as I have only mild to moderate hearing loss and the iPods have much better audio quality. So we can watch our programs together be it UA-cam Netflix or any other apps on the Ruko. It would probably also work when you air play to your Ruko
Oh that's great! Thank you for the info! You hear that guys??? If you have hearing aids, get yourself an iPhone!!!!
What about Fire TV? Would that work too?
i haven't tried but it very well may work.
Will the Roku streamer work with a amazon fire TV?
I doubt it, the Roku and fire tv are both individual streaming devices. If you are watching a show from the Roku, it will work.
I can get the Roku app and controls work fine but when I turn on the headphones I get just a couple words and then it goes quiet on aids and tv . I get the Bluetooth cause I stream music from my phone regularly as well as this video
thats strange, i didn't have that issue. I would see if you can contact roku support to find out why its doing that.
Can other people in the room still hear the TV? Or is this just like pairing a headset? I need others to be able to hear the TV but allow me to adjust the volume for my deafness. This sounds like a one stream or nothing.
as far as i know, it mutes the tv, i have not found a way around this.
Make a video on installing the Roku please.
Copy that lol
At 9:37 it says hit the settings button on the roku remote app and you get controls. When I hit settings, I get only nonsense, like "rate us", "terms of use", "privacy policy", "contact us", troubleshoot and share. Where is the "control" stuff?
Hmm I'm not sure. Are there more roku apps maybe? Are you using the "roku remote" app? It's super straight forward I'm not sure.
I don't know either. Does it require the premium app? I have the 4K roku, but its pretty old at this point. Certainly no option for private sound like you found....
When screaming to your hearing aids can others still hear the tv?
Everything was going great until the end where you stated that you can't listen through your HA's and still have TV audio so you have to watch TV along to get the benefits of the Roku hack. Am i correct in my understanding?
That is correct. When you are streaming through the hearing aids, it will mute the tv audio.
I have a better idea. Why don't these hearing aid manufactures just add the proper Bluetooth signals to there hearing aids so that they will work on tv's. it's BS that they don't
They already did, for example, the hearing aids of 2023 Resound Nexia has a Bluetooth LE, also Audocast software. In that one of the leaders of HA industry already put Apple behind with this low energy Bluetooth capability.
I agree 100% it's bs
My Phonak aids have built in Bluetooth and will sync up with my older Samsung tv but as you have pointed out with the Roku app it mutes the sound for others, the same as my Samsung tv. Wish there was a way to do both beside a tv streamer box.
Money for overpaid execs
Can you do the same thing with Chromecast stick ?
haven't tried but its worth a shot
You can only watch programs streaming on Roku, correct? I assume you can't watch regular broadcast or cable TV.
if you are using the roku to watch it, yes. If you are not using the roku to watch it, no
Can this be done with a Roku TV instead of buying the Roku box? Can you use your IPad to stream TV to aids if your don’t have a phone?
im pretty sure it can, i dont see why it wouldn't but i dont have a roku tv so i can't say for sure. Can you download the roku app on your ipad? If you can, theres your answer, just try it!
You can use a Roku TV and a IPad. I have been doing it for least a year. I don’t have a iPhone. My Samsung A13 phone will not stream to my Oticon OPNS2 but the IPad will through UA-cam or the Roku TV.
Will this work on a Roku tv cause I don’t have a box
I'm sure it would work but I haven't tested it
If I get this to work tonight I will shout lol.
Shout all you want brotha
does your have to have built into bluetooth?
Does your what? Tv?
So it goes through your phone then to hearing aids?
Yep
Drawback resolution is way behind the curve. 1080p good but it's not up there with the latest.
Is it bad that I don't know what drawback res is?
There are now Rokus that have 4K streaming available, though I don't think there is much content.
I was just told today at Costco that their Jabra and Phillips would not be compatible with my Samsung tablet for bluetooth streaming. My Resounds are on their last leg and it makes no sense to me that I have to spend $2k for a new pair that is going backward in technology from my 4 year old hearing aids. I love my Resound Prezas.
Did you have any questions?
@@HearingClub Not really, I am just disappointed that I have been able to make my Resounds last almost 4 years and now it seems like my in the ear option is limited to the Phillips in order to get connection to my Samsung devise, One option - this was the biggest reason I renewed my Costco membership. I am going to have to purchase this set, but it seems like I am going backward on technology options. I will have to seek a second pair with a different provider to see if my options expand at all. Thank you you for the informative video.
Will this work with a Roku TV?
I'm pretty sure it would. You can check by downloading the roku app
I don't get this?
I wear hearing aids from Costco. The KS-10.0.
I stream all the time!
Using my smart TV, or Firestick, I just Bluetooth pare directly to my hearing aids.
Doesn't everyone do this??
It's super easy to go into settings on my Firestick, turn on paring, and put my hearing aids into paring mode, pare them up, and Voilà!
I only do this the first time... Now, my hearing aids just connect automatically.
Cool hack... except I don't seem to be able to control the volume on the HA, not with the tv, not with the HA app on the phone, and not really on the HA either. Weird! Maybe my roku is too old? Anyone else seen this problem with volume? HAs are the new Jabras.
BTW, I have this same volume issue both on my android phone and on my iPad, so it doesn't seem to be just an android issue.
Lemme check it out
Would have been nice if your Headline mention requirement to have a Roku.
Thanks for the feedback and have a wonderful day!
🎉
My hearing is really bad It has been for years. Of all the sounds I miss the last on the list would be TV.
understood
🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Yooooo MrBottomFeeder!!! How's it going my man. Pretty cool find eh 😎
😅Can someone hear the TV in the room while you hear it on your hearing aids with the Roku approach? That is an important feature for most of us if not listening solo
Hi Mary! I actually cover this in the video but i guess you missed it. This will mute the TV so it will only work while watching solo.
Now if I could stream from my MacBook, the world would be a better place.
You can IF it's a new enough Mac and you have a mfi hearing aid
@@HearingClub I have Philips 9040s but the Mac is 2017
You didn’t post where to buy this for $24
there should be a link in the video but i did go back and check and its now 29.00. The amazon prices always change but at the time of the video it was 24.
No one else in the room can hear the TV now. How to solve that?
I actually explain this in the video. Watchnthe entire video and if you still have questions, let me know.
You explain that it happens and its a solo viewer option. So there is no workaround at this point?
So I'm stuck with just using Roku app, I still like my cable tv, so this is useless
Bummer
