I’m a software engineer, and this is the most refreshing intro to having a website I’ve ever seen from another technical person. Thank you for making such a practical intro. It really gets to the core of what stops people from making their own site-fear and indecisiveness, of choosing the wrong publishing platform, thinking they have to understand complex stuff that doesn’t matter, or of not knowing what to say. Perfection.

Thank you. Simple, straightforward. I liked that it's "I just had the idea to start a blog 3 seconds ago" to have something published in a week. With some general long-term goals to give direction past "just write/post." Google search was a lot to shift through when you don't know what you need to know. Glad I got this recommended to me today!

I created a site on ghost before realizing that it's not a "website" publisher in the generic sense, it is a blogging platform. And in my anxiousness to create that site I paid for a year, which seemed to be necessary to setup my (already owned) primary domain name. As I researched how to do basic things on it that you may need if you want to to anything other than blog, it becomes apparent that Ghost is a pure blogging site builder. You can do other things with it, but not without more advanced skill, and there are technical limitations under the hood that limit the potential for other uses.

Hi Ali, so basically you talk alot about how opening yourself to the world changed your life and how all the work you do online positively impacted you but for a change can you also talk about how all this has negatively impacted you, what were the draw backs, how did you seldom regret your choices. That'd be an amazing insight. Thank you

Oh my heck!!! I’m 73 years old. When I was 30 years old I was asked to write a column for a monthly newspaper that covered 3states. 1977 there were no computer social media blogs. I did not have time to develop content. I documented my life as a mom with 7 kids under 10, a cancer survivor. It turned out to be sarcastic and humorous.
    DOCUMENT NOT CONTENT

Ali awesome advice. By the way I recently started learning html and css. I started by recreating my family's businesses website. A professional now is running it already. But I thought in order to have something to start with. I am in Greece now and a friend from Plymouth is trying to teach me. I love the creating part of it. It is really enjoyable to me. And I always wanted to learn. So yeah enjoying that for now. Nice video though as always. Waiting for the next one.

What are your thoughts on project-based websites versus personal brand websites? I have a few websites, one personal, one for a podcast and UA-cam channel around the same topic, and a more professional oriented site. I’m never really sure where to post my content. Or whether I just funnel my project blog posts into my personal site, so that it contains at least a preview of all of my work.
