Thank you, Ben, for sharing your important reasons why you upgraded from M50 to M6 M2! M6 mk2 seems a really good camera, but for me, there's no real reason to change my M50 to this. Software features (timelapse, electronic shutter) can be upgradeable in M50 too. Missing buttons, dials of course not replaceable, but I don't need them. Because a few amounts of changing settings I use daily. The flash in both camears has a limited usability,ifI you want to use flash for various cases, you might to buy a better flash. Finally, EVF is priceless for me. If I'd need it to M6 mk2, I'll have to buy it separately.
It flips up so you can still see it , has better 4K Focus and no 4K crop. If you aren’t doing video and you are only worried about photos there are better options than any of the M series cameras.

I might be making this move too...The M50 is my first camera that got me into this game. Love shooting with it so much but as I wanted to do more things, so many times i had the "aw man" moment realizing the feature i wanted is not available on my M50. The M6 MKII has all the stuff I wanted but missing from the M50. However the lack of flippy screen is kind of big deal for me. I use it a lot when doing low or high portrait orientation shots. Also it should be useful when mounted on a gimal.
how do you not have more subs !!! amazing video I'm trying to upgrade my camera for UA-cam I had the canon g7x Mark 2. Then I purchased the sony ax-53 camcorder That thing was amazing, but it couldn't focus in low light so I sold that now im going back and fourth between the sony z-v1 and the canon m50 or canon m6 mark 2. Thank you for the video subbed!!!
I'll be sticking to my M50 for now. I need an EVF and the clip on one adds cost and bulk. And one can't use the EVF and external flash at the same time.
EOS M50 does also have an electronic shutter but it is rather limited on functionality. To me it annoys most that you cannot use the AWB-W setting (you can shoot in raw and develop in camera with AWB-W though). The electronic shutter is in the SCN-setting. That speed setting is nice. EOS M50 on P does not go below 1/60s, nice with the 22 mm but way too fast with IS. EOS M was just the opposite as it went to 1/30. I think they should automatically base that on the lens. I was considered M6 in 2017. I could not make my mind between M6 and M3 and I ended buying G9 X Mark II. When I saw the M50 I wondered the single wheel but IMO touch and use the wheel works nice enough.
This is admittedly a weird question. Does the M6 let you select to shoot in the same crop as the M50 (I cant remember what it is in millimeters) and still get 4K? I ask because I use the M50 with some lenses that vignette with larger sensors. I’d love it if when you pick from the dimensions you want to shoot on the M6, the M50s crop size would be available too. Thanks for your thoughts!
Great review, thanks! I've moved from A6000 to M50 last year (I'm VERY cheap on gear), but the AF performance is not great. Not sure if moving 'up, but back' to 7d m2 makes sense, but with wildlife I mostly use the viewfinder... I would love the quick settings changes with the extra dials in the very same situations though... why does Canon make it so hard with the trade-offs and can't make the body a bit bigger to include a Sony a6* style EVF or a pop-up EVF... not sure if I want the extra bulk of 90D and neither the AF versatility/settings of 7D2, nor the upgraded Dual focus AF (talking about the EVF situation in both cases and acknowledging the difference in AF tech). I hope it makes sense :)
I got the m50 for vlogging and I love it. I’m not a fan of the Mark series for that reason. You also didn’t discuss screen sizes and swivel features. I do like the usb type c power charge in camera but that won’t make the sale for me on the mk2.
Hi Ben, great review. This is exactly at the right time for me. I doubted between the M50 and the M6II but now my doubt is over, I will definitely go for the M6II. Thank you man 👍
Really interesting review and affirms my decision to buy one, not yet received. One odd thing though, all reviews talk about the lack of 24p but page 11 of the Canon Supplemental Information booklet that comes with the User Guide states that it supports 24p. Has 24p been added by a firmware upgrade? Also why is 24p such a big deal especially when you have 25p and 29.97p (according to the printed specification).
I was about to buy the M6 Mk II for those times I don't want to lug around my 5D Mk III, so thanks for the reassurance. I have not seen a bad review yet, and DPReview like it as well :-)

The Canon M50 doesn’t have clean HDMI out on it. You have to turn off the info and set it into Manual Focus to get a clean signal out for, the HDMI port, or else you get all of the onscreen display info. From what I hear, the M50 Mark II does have clean HDMI out though, just not the original M50.
Great video. Definitely a great camera now that we have the Sigma Trio and 24p via update. For me though, I’m waiting for M50 MK II hopefully. I love my EVF for photography and flip out screen for blogging. But the biggest factor for me is that the M50 is so much more affordable. I would hope that if a M50 MK II comes out it will maintain the same price point. I would hope they add a 2nd control dial for it, but if not, I’ve been able to live with it as I grew up with the Rebel series. But the M6 MK II is definitely a beast and hopefully will get more 3rd party accessory makes to look into EF-M. I want EF-M to continue on.
Looking for a second camera for interviews. Good insight about astro and shooting in 24FPS, or lack thereof... Might get it as a second camera, unless you can recommend another. Pretty lame how Canon limits their cameras- makes me almost want to switch to a sony.
Agreed...I'm torn between Sony and Canon, Fuji is not far away from the corners of my mind either. However, after watching a lot of videos and reading comments, people seemed a little disappointed or frustrated with some of Canon's choices and limitations 😕.
I know this camera is way better than the M50, however if you’re a vlogger and want to use an external mic, the flip screen isn’t great cos it only flips up so the mic will make the flipping screen become useless. While the M50 flips to the side which allows you to put a nice external mic on the top of the camera. Conclusion, it wouldn’t be a better investment as the m50 is for vloggers. Anyway, thanks for the information bro

Hi Ben, nice comparison review! At 1:50 you were describing how you liked that the M6 Mark II has a manual/auto focus switch. Does the Canon M50 not have the ability to switch from manual to auto and back? How is it done on the M50? Could you please elaborate on this alittle more? Thanks! I am currently deciding between the M50 and the M6 Mark II as my first camera as a beginner.
Actually I find the M50 to be much more usable camera...I have had both and really don’t need those little extra’s for great stills and video...the missing viewfinder add on deal sucks but and articulating screen on the 50 wins for me...you don’t use a viewfinder, you must be a digital newbie....good comparison though... you’ll miss the m50 when you sell it 😎I sold my M6Mll
I'm with ya I was debating too but I'm definitely one for always using the viewfinder n I def won't use that cheap bounce flash that looks so cheap it could break lol
A6400 is best when on the tripod 100% of the time. Shaky and horrible rolling shutter every time unless on a gimbal. Canon m50 FTW tbh. I returned my a6400 ASAP. Unusable.
Very good review, this the only review that dig that much into m6 ii. I found more reason to get this camera. I'm currently using m50, and I'm planning to add a second camera. But I do wish it's have the tilt swivel screen, I always use it.
Was at the coast in a storm, we have a haystack rock there so I set the mk2 up and ran some footage. Was able to stop up nicely to get the waves, rock detail and grass waving when the weather broke. Lots of fun! Need to get the remote working, thanks for askung - Mark
M50's built in EVF makes it $150 cheaper right from the beggining, especially if you still want to use the hot shoe for anything and even more so if you want to bundle discount the EFS lens adaptor from a place like B&H. Imagine spending $300 more to get those two add ons... Does that evf compare to OVF for manual focusing Low F macro? Also can you elaborate on manual focus mode with the M50? Do you really have to use the camera menu, no dedicated button?
I know this video is a year old and maybe you won't see this comment, but I am in the same exact position as you were. Have the Canon M50 and I now upgraded. My question is this: how did you sell your M50? Where should I, in your opinion? And what would be a good price for a used but excellent condition M50? Any advice would be appreciated.
Yeah.. The digital is in m50 is really suck, unusable, it's warping so weird. I hope that someone can upload the sample of digital is from m6 ii. But judging from this video it look pretty good.
i love the tilty twisty screen (which you didn't mention, tho' you did briefly show the m6II's less useful tilty one!) & the evf of my m50. i'll stick with it for now!
Guess just being older enjoy the shutter sound it is satisfying and let me and the people the picture was taken. But I am a hold over from the film days
good video and info. I've got the m50 mkii and I love it for stills and mostly love the video it produces. The big crop at 4k would be an issue except most of my 4k video is wildlife and zoomed way in on distant subjects so the crop hasn't really been as problem for me
Nice upgrade ! The M series of Canon is the best : compact, cheap (I mean especially the lenses) and light ! I’ve got the M5 but I will get the M6 mk 2 in two years when it will be cheaper.
@@escamunicha4276 I don't mind because RF lenses are too expensive for my need. And most people want an alternative to expensive lenses that's why M lenses won't die soon. And with the adaptor you can add all the EF-S and EF lenses you want (that include Tamron and Sigma). So it's perfect :) And long live EOS M system :D. And all the other system and brand !
So when selling your gear, where do you sell... I'm planning to sell a lot of my gear when the R5/R6 gets released. What type of loss should one expect? I have a 7dii and finally want to go full frame. Thanks for your feedback.
Great review! 24p is on its way... I'm about ready to buy, Im torn between the 15-45 vs 18-150 kit lens. (I'll probably have both eventually anyway). BUT that 32mm (f1.4) will be my first get after the kit. I'm glad that you spoke favorable about the electronic/digital stabilization. I have hopes that (hand held) video with the 32mm (no IS) can be acceptable.
In terms of sharpness and detail which one would you recommend me to buy, iPhone 12/13 Pro Max or Canon M6 Mark II? And my second question would be if Canon M6 Mark II can compete with iPhone 12/13 Pro Max in nnight and low light situations? Thanks in advance for your response.
I would rather buy m50 & a good lens with speedbooster then m6 mark ii based on this video. there arent much differences.. twice the price for the few buttons and software fuctions?. There maybe some great differences this video didn't explain but when he talks about m50 it was just like "i dont know.. it's just not good". maybe i was expecting more details with video & still comparisons for a 13:14 long video. Especially with digital stabilization.. by the looks of it, the stabilization seems on par with m50. Sorry but it just looked like he was kind of forced to give good review on m6 mark ii.
Everyone has their own preferences. I think he explained his preferences well. Yours may be different. I almost never use the EVF but it is nice to have it just in case. For me the lack of dials is not a big issue, touch and use dial is simpler though likely slower. The dials cost money. Custom modes would be nice, I now have a custom mode on my secondary camera but not my primary.
@@okaro6595 Yeah i agree that people have different preferences. But according to title, it's a comparison video. So i was expecting more details/info on pros and cons even if it's biased but detailed truth. Whereas i felt like he really didn't explain enough on both m50 and m6 mark ii. To me, it was more of "you know i like m6 mark ii, m50? meh~ never mind" so disappointed..
Have you used the 30fps raw burst? Can you set the shutter to a lower speed like 1/10 and still utilize the pre-burst feature from the raw burst? And can you extend the pre-burst to something longer than 0.5s? How much better is the image quality compared to your RX100? Because I've used both the M100 and original M6 (both should be comparable to the 24MP M50) and didn't find the images that much better than an RX100 VA. I'm debating whether to get the G7X III (similar to the RX100 VA in picture quality) or the M6 II, which from what I can tell, is a noticeable jump from the last generation M100/M6/M50 with an extra stop of ISO performance and higher resolution. Also strongly disagree on your thoughts about USB-C on the Canon. Almost none of my devices support PD and I can't even charge it when plugging in to a regular USB port on a computer which uses a standard 5V. You don't need the higher voltage from PD and none of the external canon battery chargers they bundle even exceed 5V,. The PD is just a money grab. You can't even power any canon cameras with their PD adapter. It's charge only, even on the EOS R. So the extra voltage is a complete waste.
Are you sure that's the M50 mark 2? All of the M50 mark 2's I'm seeing on Amazon and youtube have a flip screen, viewfinder and doesn't have the 2 dials on top and mf, af switches. Did Canon release 2 different versions of the mark 2? The current M50 mark 2's layout are practically identical to the standard M50.
Update: Canon has updated its firmware that adds 24fps for the Canon mark ii
Kudos to Canon for attempting to leave it out, shooting in 24p shouldn't be allowed lol.
How do we obtain this? I just bought the canon m6 mark ii and I didn’t see that option for 24fps

The M6 MKII has all the stuff I wanted but missing from the M50. However the lack of flippy screen is kind of big deal for me. I use it a lot when doing low or high portrait orientation shots. Also it should be useful when mounted on a gimal.
I miss the flippy screen too.
Mark ii has clean HDMI out as well for my streamer friends. That camera is on my list for sure.
Doesn’t it shut off after 30 mins?
@@benthurr you know what, you're right. Rip m6...
@@CHEFPKR at least it shuts off when it's recording so idk if it'll work it might
You can adjust the focus mode on the m50 with just one click too.
how do you not have more subs !!! amazing video I'm trying to upgrade my camera for UA-cam I had the canon g7x Mark 2. Then I purchased the sony ax-53 camcorder That thing was amazing, but it couldn't focus in low light so I sold that now im going back and fourth between the sony z-v1 and the canon m50 or canon m6 mark 2. Thank you for the video subbed!!!
Wow thanks man, you've made me upgrade because of the minimum shutter speed.
I'll be sticking to my M50 for now. I need an EVF and the clip on one adds cost and bulk. And one can't use the EVF and external flash at the same time.
If the evf is important to you then I would definitely wait for something like an M50mkII to come along.
@@benbjurstrom I'm still hoping for an M5mkII. I want the extra features that the M5 had which the M50 doesn't.
Looking forward to upgrade to this camera from my Canon 80d. Focus Peaking, 4K, Video Image Stabilisation, C-Raw and D+2....
If you have any questions regarding the 90D you can speak to canon directly www.canon.co.uk/canonlive/
Nice review.
can you compare the PS2 with a PS5 next.
I still like M50. M6 mark2 feels too tiny compared to M50. And ya no view finder is a big no for me.
This review was seriously helpful. How's the face detect AF? That's my only remaining point of concern as I have a 2 and 4 y/o.
Well, I like the M50 mark ii. I haven't tried to compare it. So I prefer to have this M50 mark ii.
Dude, never mind the cameras. I love your background! All those wires and stands ever slightly bokeh'd out. I'm being serious :)
It gives a feel of being behind the scenes in a realistic environment vs over performed and staged and promoted
Only missing the electronic view finder stops me from upgrading
I’d buy it today if it had a fully articulating display. Why did the not make that.
Wow quality of content in your Chanel is awesome.. It'll easily reach a million :)
When dose the m50 ii come out??
Are these small or your hand are huge ?
Where do I find 120p? I go to video mode on the wheel, and then I can set 4k30, FHD60, FHD30, but no FHD120
The articulating screen and EVF. I'll keep the M50. The optional EVF is $200 more!
huge cons - no view finder and screen. how to put microfon and vlog with sceen up?
watch this, maybe can help
ua-cam.com/video/p4XjfImtEdQ/v-deo.html
Easy, just use a flash bar connected to tripod thread, don’t miss the viewfinder at all.
That tiny flash is not going to be much use when bounced off your average ceiling, more of a gimmick.
It actually works well off of an 8’ ceiling.
It works fine on my M100
24p is what films are shot with so it looks the most cinematic.
Thanks for the video. You sold me on the M50 on this one, since I'm trying to upgrade for my UA-cam channel. Thanks again and great content!!!
I was about to buy the M6 Mk II for those times I don't want to lug around my 5D Mk III, so thanks for the reassurance. I have not seen a bad review yet, and DPReview like it as well :-)
Exactly my thoughts that the m6m2 is coming close to higher end full frame canon. But, samsung phones now $700 10+ or $1200 3 lense 20+, ibis stabilized phone can give always with me pics capability. Especially since the canon eos r was such a bad attempt at full frame, and with a new mount. And, surprisingly, watching youtube on my samsung phone now, selectively chosen content, imparts way more real knowledge that my expensive college years
Didnt Canon announce that there will be a firmware update to include 24p?
Yep, a couple days after I uploaded the video. Sadly it won't be available until sometime in 2020.
@@benbjurstrom oh i see...well at least its coming i guess..
M6 ii is no way an upgrade for m50 ..
M50 is much more better than any other camera on this price segment !
hello according to your experience which will have better image quality in the video? Canon M6 Markt II OR SONY RX100 M7? THANK YOU
The Canon M50 doesn’t have clean HDMI out on it.
Hey so just you know, M50 MK II is out! And....its a firmware update
M6 really looks good to me. M6 or sony a 6400 is now the question for me
what did you get. I am torn between those two also
wait so there's no viewfinder for the m6 mark ii? does that mean that everything has to be done using the screen?
Can the M6 Mark II be charged while controlled remotely over USB C from a laptop?
Probably not, I'm not aware of any laptops that output power delivery over their usb-c ports.

I like the M6 Mk II but there's no built in viewfinder & the screen only tilts.
It's just as easy on the m50, default is left hand side of rear wheel toggles af/mf and you can customise most buttons to do whatever you like.
Why no evf? Still needs evf.
I'm with ya I was debating too but I'm definitely one for always using the viewfinder n I def won't use that cheap bounce flash that looks so cheap it could break lol
canon m6ii and sony a6400 are about the same price so which one will you recomment
I would do the a6400 if you're primarily using it for video and the M6 Mark II if you're more interested in stills.
pornjaa A6400 is more better than this m6ii
sony a6400 is the best!
A6400 is best when on the tripod 100% of the time. Shaky and horrible rolling shutter every time unless on a gimbal. Canon m50 FTW tbh. I returned my a6400 ASAP. Unusable.
@@defender1030 Can you give reasons or just repeating "Sony is better"?
Very good review, this the only review that dig that much into m6 ii. I found more reason to get this camera. I'm currently using m50, and I'm planning to add a second camera. But I do wish it's have the tilt swivel screen, I always use it.
well it's getting 24p update next early year
Looking forward to that!
9:59 - 4.2.2 - 10 bit for video out? Why is no one talking about this? Isn't this a pretty big deal for video??
Very, very helpful as a new M6 MII owner.
How do you like it so far?
Mine arrives Tuesday with the 32mm lens
Was at the coast in a storm, we have a haystack rock there so I set the mk2 up and ran some footage. Was able to stop up nicely to get the waves, rock detail and grass waving when the weather broke. Lots of fun! Need to get the remote working, thanks for askung - Mark
I just left the 18-150 kit on but have the 11-22 in the bag.. lightning fast AF!
Nice Video! The M6 also has focus bracketing which was my reason for switching. Curious about your thoughts on this?
Excellent video. Very useful information, thank you.
isnt the M50 the better camera for lowlight photography then the M6 MKII?
You’re the first reviewer I’ve heard mention a difference with the digital IS. I just assumed it was the same as in the M50.
Yeah.. The digital is in m50 is really suck, unusable, it's warping so weird. I hope that someone can upload the sample of digital is from m6 ii. But judging from this video it look pretty good.
Thank you! I’ve been debating between the two cameras as an upgrade for my channel! This helped narrow it down for me!
curious which one are you interested in.. I have a Canon g7x mark ii which I'm not impressed with im thinking of buying something else..
Can decide between one of these and a Sony a6400
i love the tilty twisty screen (which you didn't mention, tho' you did briefly show the m6II's less useful tilty one!) & the evf of my m50. i'll stick with it for now!
Guess just being older enjoy the shutter sound it is satisfying and let me and the people the picture was taken. But I am a hold over from the film days
There is an upgrade already for the m6ii - it has the 24p now
K. Borz whats the upgrade?
good video and info. I've got the m50 mkii and I love it for stills and mostly love the video it produces. The big crop at 4k would be an issue except most of my 4k video is wildlife and zoomed way in on distant subjects so the crop hasn't really been as problem for me
Thank you. So do you recommend getting the M6 for video vlog like 30 minutes content?
Nice upgrade !
The M series of Canon is the best : compact, cheap (I mean especially the lenses) and light !
I’ve got the M5 but I will get the M6 mk 2 in two years when it will be cheaper.
too bad it isn't compatible with rf lenses and the eos M line up will probably die.
@@escamunicha4276 I don't mind because RF lenses are too expensive for my need. And most people want an alternative to expensive lenses that's why M lenses won't die soon. Also I don't think Canon need to invest to much for M lenses because amateur don't have a lot of lenses (and don't need it too).

So when selling your gear, where do you sell... I'm planning to sell a lot of my gear when the R5/R6 gets released. What type of loss should one expect?
I have a 7dii and finally want to go full frame.
Thanks for your feedback.
I always sell on ebay. The size of the loss really depends. Look at completed items on ebay to get an idea what your gear is selling for.
Are you really asking if a proper camera can compete with a phone camera?
Is the video quality on the M6markII better since it has the better 32 pixel sensor ??
Awesome! That USB charging feature is long overdue in a camera such as this.
Do you think canon will release a more pro apsc dslm in the next few years?
Please, how do they compare in terms or low light performance and noise?
Is the hdmi external recording continuous or time limited to 30min?
Good advice about the flash on the M6, didnt realize it pulled back to be used to bounce, I have the same flash it seems on the M100, nice :)
When was m6 mark ii released? Thanks
So the m6ii has a back dial wheel but the eos r doesn't? Failure...
Where do you prefer to sell your old equipment, b&h,kel, ebay?
Ebay. There's more risk since you're dealing with buyers directly but you get much more for your old gear.
