This is a PHENOMENAL walk through. Absolutely what I needed to fix my Maytag MGD5630HW dryer. I ended up replacing all the wheels, the pulley wheel and the belt. I think the culprit was grinding at the back left wheel. Again, cannot thank you enough for this. Even though the front of the dryer on your model looks slightly different, this was exactly what I encountered in my MGD5630HW, with the exception of the mounting of the circuit board (minor difference that didn't impact anything). Thanks again!

    Just finished doing this repair.
Instructions were exactly what i needed.
If you get OCD on repairs like i do…there were a mix of self tapping and regular 1/4 inch screws.
Getting the’ loop’ around the tensioner to the drive was also maybe the hardest part ands still only took a try or two.
Thanks for putting this video together!

Great video!! The only thing to add is to have your vacuum ready to clean out the machine. Also- helpful tip - replace the two screws at the bottom in the middle with 2” long screws, and put a black mark where groove goes over the screw. It’s much easier to set the door back on the long screws at the end.

Fantastic! One thing to note at 4:02 is the white plastic flap that you can see below the metal lint screen housing. This flap should go straight into the dryer, not pinched/bent down as shown. The flap provides a protective shield for the thermal fuse and thermistor connections that are below it on the exhaust housing. No complaints though! I successfully used this super helpful video to find and replace my thermistor. Thanks a million!

Thanks for the informative video, it was very helpful. I was actually looking to get to the blower housing to clean it out as I am having heating issues. I have changed out this idler pulley twice in the past but went through the back panel which is a lot less involved than going through the front, tighter room to work in but doable. Now I know how to access through the front as well. Thanks again.

Well done video! I ended up pulling off the 4 drum rollers, cleaned them up and put a very thin layer of lithium grease on the spindles. When I see metal on metal, I can't put them back on without some lubricant. The idler pulley was just gummed up. Cleaned it up as well with some grease on the spindle. Since it is not a bearing, I found no reason to replace. Should be good for another 100,000 miles.

Great video, I’ve used it twice. I bought a non Whirlpool parts kit from Amazon. In less than three months the drum stopped turning last Saturday. I took it apart to find one wheel had come apart and ruined the wheel shaft $44. Then the idler pulley seized and burned the belt up. Two of the other three wheels were grinding while spinning. I just bought a whirlpool parts kit replaced the belt, idler pulley, the shaft and 4 wheels.

Great video. I found the belt tension pulley and 3 of the barrel carriers difficult to almost frozen on my 9 year old Maytag that gets heavy use (I almost reached for the yard rake to get all the debris out of the cabinet). But rather than replace them I used a brass 12 gauge bore brush on my electric drill. That and 1200 grit sandpaper as you suggested and they spun like new. Since the surfaces are steel, the brass bore brush just cleans the surfaces. Just a suggestion that might save people a lot of money.

Dryer was squealing like a pig being tortured.
    Unusable. It was that bad.
Disassembled and everything seemed ok besides the idler pulley. Was jammed.
    I'll order a new part.
In the meantime, I used sandpaper and greased it.
    No more squeal. Thanks again.

Wow! Thank you very much. without this video, there is no way I could have done this. And you explained everything so well. Only thing I would add is putting back on the belt is not so intuitive. Pay close attention to how it is installed. Take pictures if possible. when you first try install the belt, you don't realize that the white wheel (that was oiled and cleaned) actually is spring mounted so it can move vertically up and down with tension pulling it down. Otherwise you're like how does the belt spin if the belt is touching itself. Also, when re-installing the front door helps to put something under the dryer to elevate it so you can see it can properly fall back into the two screws that never fully were taken out.

Had the same problem. But from a closer look at the idler pulley and the 4 rollers, it's unlikely you would need to replace any of it. I just sprayed some silicone lubricant down the shafts, spun them to work out the crud that had built up, and put it all back together.

Why is it not able to be done from the back? I was reading on the website where purchased my part and customer made a comment he did his by removing the back. But I do not know for sure if it was exactly the same model, as you know some of the parts cross over to other brands. Any thoughts on doing it from the back since it seems like mostly it's located towards the back. Thank you very well done video.

Great video. So all is going well but when I put the drum back in, the belt is really loose. It's going around the motor and the pulley, the drum seems to be in the correct position, but there's a ton of slack in the belt. What am I doing wrong?

  • @mattgoldstein2117

Reattaching the belt was a problem as I couldn't see inside the machine when I took it off. User @user-tx9zw4ld9x included a video in their comment that resolved that puzzle for me.
See at 10:04 of this video: ua-cam.com/video/T2hH97QWif4/v-deo.html
My one other problem is that one of the two tabs on the control panel that get screws through them snapped off! I have glued it together. I hope it holds and I can complete the reassembly.
I was able to start the dryer so I know that everything is connected so far.
