This video was perfect. I'm 71 yo and never rebuilt a dryer before. It was a complete success. I discovered that my problem was a destroyed idler pulley. Now it's good as new. It was a fun project! I am so appreciative !

Kudos to Appliance Parts Pros on this video. After receiving the correct Dryer Repair Kit for my Whirlpool Duet Dryer, I followed the instructions on the video step by step and replaced the dryer belt, rollers, and pulley. The dryer started up and ran fine. I appreciated the straightforward yet detailed instructions that allowed a novice to make a successful repair.

While my dryer model was slightly different in the disassembly, this video was extremely helpful and the replacement parts were perfect. Not only did I save money on calling a repair service, but I also found a $20 in the dryer (along with more lint that you can imagine)! Thank you!

Thanks for the video! I did the whole kit replacement because I needed to replace the broken belt and figured it was a good time to replace the rollers.
Never had experience in doing this before. Went well and better yet it worked when I was finished. Learned a lot while doing it. Not bad for an 80 yr. old.

Great video. Big help in my belt replacement Minor suggestion perhaps mention this is a good time to clean out lint that is all over the insides. I'm sure folks will do this once they notice where lint has gathered but a gentle reminder may be good idea.

Video worked perfect for my Maytag dryer too. Best thing ever! Idler pully bearing was shot (squealing and nearly frozen) and belt was starting to split so did the full kit while in there. One thing to note is he wears gloves and you should too. After my second cut on sharp edges I woke up and followed his example.

My Dryer made loud screeching noises, so we thought maybe we needed new dryer since it is 15+ years old. I did research and saw there was a repair kit for $50+ with new belt, rollers so I thought why not try it since new dryers cost $700 to $1000. I had my buddy help me since it talked about needing 2 people. The only issue was removing wire harness in front, it took almost 20 minutes. To my surprise, one of the back rollers was laying in bottom along with metal shavings since large dryer drum was turning on metal. Replaced everything and put back together, along with cleaning years of lint all over. When completed turned back on and dryer ran like new, quiet and also drying faster. Thank you so much for providing such a complete repair kit.

Outstanding video that saved us a bunch of money. A few observations: Half of your time will be spent cleaning the lint inside the dryer - vacuum thoroughly, use compressed air to blow lint out of the motor there is a ton in there and lint + spark = fire. Beforehand, empty your vacuum's canister and after you are done vacuuming, dump the contents on a newspaper and go through it for lost items - you will be surprised what you find! The triangular rings (tri-rings) are, on replacement, very difficult to move all the way down the pulley post - if the inner ring looks good, leave it alone and just put a new tri-ring on the outside once the pulley is in place. To remove the old outside tri-ring, use a pair of cutters. The washer for the idler pulley - use this, even if you find a tri-ring was used on the inside position. Clean each pulley with a solvent like denatured alcohol or Gumout on a towel - there is buildup that will keep the pulley from moving a smoothly as it should. Good luck and enjoy the wonderful sound of your repaired dryer!

Well done Matt, we just installed a repair kit to our dryer. Thanks to your video we had no problems and no leftover parts. The dryer runs very quiet now, no loud squeal. Recommend that anyone going to this much trouble also clean out the vent tube all the way to the outside, we collected enough lint to knit a sweater. Thanks for the guidance.

I must have hit your shipping deadline perfect, because we had our parts delivered by Fedex only 22 HOURS after ordering using your medium priced “fast” delivery! Folks, spend the extra $3 for “fast” delivery! I did have SEVERAL differences between my dryer and the one in this video, but they were all easily worked around and the job only took 2.5 hours including breaks and looking for a tool lol. Dryer is noise-free now!! Thanks for the GREAT SERVICE which I recommend to anyone in need of a DIY remedy.

Thanks for posting this. It is an excellent set of step-by-step instructions. I used this video today to repair a Duet dryer purchased in 2005. For us the old pulley seemed to be the problem, as it was squealing when the dryer was running. It is working fine now.

GREAT video! There were a few differences with my dryer, but overall it took me about an hour. The most difficult step was getting the dryer belt back over the idler pulley and motor. But I took the back of the dryer off and it was on in a jiffy. $30.00 for parts, and this video saved me a ~$150.00 service call. Thank you very much!

  • @DonofrioPetTV

I bought the kit for about $50 and did the repair myself. I saved over $250. My unit must be older because there were some slight differences. The vent housing had 4 screws, (no clip), there were no ribbon cables, they were wire bundles with barely enough slack to move out of the way but the biggest difference was the tub orientation. My clip was in the back half. I knew it was wrong but decided to follow your video and assembled the drum and the belt around the gear pulley and as I was spinning it the belt kept moving away. I reversed the drum position and it’s working fine. Mine is stacked in a closet so I used a ladder to get to the top. It was a little tight to get to the screws on the top/back so I used a socket.
The most difficult time I had was removing the old triangle washers and moving the new ones down the shaft from the first groove.
My dryer is about 16 years old and I just couldn’t see spending over $300 to replace the shredded belt. I am so glad I did this myself.
I found about 1/2 lb of lint, sand, pet hair [and a gum wrapper] clogging up the vent just below the lint screen even though I use a long brush to clean it out regularly. Also, the motor coils were compacted with dense, fine lint. There was so much lint and pet hair inside, that I am surprised it didn’t cause a fire.
Thank you for an easy to follow video and good deal on OEM replacement parts.

OK, so this is an absolutely brilliant video. My Duet dryer is a little newer and a slightly different model, but this showed me what needed to happen and I figured it out. However, am I the only person that thinks the entire dryer should be made out of the "tri-ring" material? Those things were an absolute B**** to get off and they are made of some tuff stuff. I noticed that even the video cut-out a bit while he was removing them - likely to sensor out the swearing involved.
Bravo on a great video and thank you very much for producing it.

Best video I found for this fix. My dryer is slightly different but this still fixed it. I installed the whole kit since it has 10+ years of wear on it. The tension pulley was the culprit but there was no reason not to replace everything in the kit since getting the thing apart was really the hard part. Putting on new parts was a breeze.

  • @fbucking
    @fbucking 5 років тому +1

Instructions and parts were both excellent. My dryer was making a loud squealing noise. It was a slightly older model than the one in the video, it did not have the computer ribbons just some power clips to disconnect and some wires plugged in to the mother board. Disassembly was also slightly different since there was a decorative piece that covered the switches on the front and the top console did not come off quite the same, since it snapped around the outside of the drum.
What was truly interesting (and the probable cause of the squealing), was the original assembly of the idler pulley . There was no washer behind the idler pulley. Instead one of the triclips was installed there without a groove to sit in. Both of the triclips on either side of the pulley were brittle, discolored and showed signs of having been very hot. I installed all of the parts in the kit and they fit fine. The dryer is back running like a champ. I would highly recommend your video and your parts.

Great video, very easy to follow. Took about 90 minutes for the repair, which included a lot of vacuuming of lint/dust that had gathered throughout the years in the dryer. We've had the dryer for 10 + years, and this was the first repair to it. We originally thought it was time to drop serious money on a new set. Definitely not the case. Thank you for the video.

This video was a great help even though my Whirlpool Duet dryer model # WED9500TW@ had a few differences. The biggest difference was the way the console is removed. Mine has a trim ring that goes around the door that is attached to the console but once I figured out that all I had to do was pop the trim loose then lift the console off, everything else went smoothly. Glad I ordered the entire kit, it turned out that the problem was the idler pully locked up and the belt just kept turning and eventually wore a groove in the plastic idler roller pully. That explained why the dryer drum would turn but very slowly and not at all at times. Thanks again.

Overall I got what I needed from this video. Should mention however that your demonstrator installed the drum in backwards. At the @ minute mark on the video, he makes a point to mention the black line that the belt makes on the drum, and proceeds to point right at the opposite side, without the black line. He also mentions that the silver tab going in front, when it actually goes towards the back. I followed the reassembly instructions and even though it went together just fine, I quickly noticed the belt line on the opposite side, and a slight gap around the rear drum felt seal. Funny, when he took it apart it was correct.

Agreed. I thought I knew which way to put the drum back but when he said the silver tab goes in the front, I turned mine around to match. Sure enough the belt does not ride where it used to set. The drum looks symmetrical so I am going to leave it. I don't think it matters, it seems to spin fine. My drum felt was more worn on one side so maybe rotating it will give it more life. I reply again if it runs funny and I need to turn the drum around.

This is a great video! I have a Whirlpool #WED9200SQ0, which has a different mother board, control panel, and front, all of which took me an extra hour to figure out how to remove. I had search numerous sites to find figure out how to remove. Never really did find a video, but did some helpful videos. Once you get past that, then everything goes as shown in the video. Also, I have some funky metal piece in the dust cover. Not sure if I put this back right or not. Thanks guys!
BTW - you also helped me with repairing my Whirlpool washer last year!

    Thanks for the directions.
The only 3 things I would add:
    1) when removing the front lower panel I placed the dryer on a 2x4 to help lift the front to access the screws.
    2) instead of pulling out the wheel's triangle clips I used wire cutters to clip them as pulling them off was taking too long.
    3) when working in the computer board area my model had some anchor clips that needed to be un-anchored to free the cables to avoid pulling them when gaining access to that area. On reassembly I just pushed the anchors back.

I splurged for the OEM parts. The parts were just right but I struggled on the installation. I couldn't get two of the wiring connections apart. I spent two hours trying then broke off the retention part of the connectors. I suppose that was operator error. Other than that and an hour cleaning lint from everywhere the job went fairly smooth. I rely on Appliance Parts Pros for the right parts.

Our duet was an older model, but similar features to unscrew and unplug. When he was putting it back together, most of the screws were hex head stainless steel except for 3 brass screws. He forgot where they went. He thinks they go on the dryer vent filter cover.

and you'll notice that the rubber marks from the band that he correctly notes one should use, that mark the position of where the band was, when putting the band back on were not where he put the new band. The band mark was about 3'-4" inches over, which would make sense if he had reversed the tub when he put it back on, incorrectly.
