Thanks again Andrew, From someone who has retired from a lifetime of arable farming you are helping us oldies all keep up to speed with current trends. By all means throw in a passionate grumble now and again as your videos give us ammunition to state the case and refute the challenges thrown at us. Well done.
Great Video yet again. Ive put a pack of wafer weights on my 8rx, only just over a ton, but certainly helps the front grip, and reduced wheel slip and trac wear on the rear .
Quick question: In simplified terms, is it correct that you could earn more, through government subs, by NOT growing food, than you currently do from growing food? 20-odd mins is perfect for your uploads Andrew, good mix of interesting content. I watch Olly & Crawford (Crawford's Farm) for a good spread of diff agriculture...... Olly's vids at around 10-12mins are perfect for his content and likewise with Crawford. What I like about your content so much, is you often go into a subject in great depth, soil for instance, and treat your audience with the respect (for intelligence) that is due. Personally, I love the machinery (being a bloke) and crop rotation, cover crops etc. Always look forward to your uploads. ATB
Andy, any chance you could answer my question please? I edited my post to include the question so you may have missed it. Thanks@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard
@matthewhodder3029 Sorry, didn’t answer your first part. It is possible to earn as much from something else as growing a crop and with a lot less stress and hassle and solar is one way. They’ll be far more land going into this if Defra carry on. 😡😡
That is concerning. I have just been visiting family in N'berland and are talking about this, that the rollercoaster of farming, prices, markets, weather, just isn't worth it any more and are looking into all sorts of g'mens schemes. A sad day. There is so much other land & areas that can be used for solar and other things..... I makes you wonder if all of this is by design.@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard
i grew up on livestock farms as kid and spent weekends and weekinghts and some morning before going to school bedding up and feeding cattles/ store bullocks and sheep , we produce some of the finest beef cattle around and they got carrots and turnips and the bit of sugerbeet grown on the farm or neighbouring farms
I've just watched your update from Wednesday and I totally get what you're saying. This country could be self sufficient, but it appears the stuffed shirts would rather import crap from overseas...... senseless!!!
Another great update, certainly look forward to each one, 20min about right i would say, i back british farmers 110% i know how hard you all work and the extra pressure in difficult weather conditions. 👌
Thank you for putting together a great video, I always like how you shows us all how your machines work for someone like me a non farmer that is great, its nice to see English Partridges out on the farm farmers are always the best people for looking after nature.
Good morning Andrew, Very pleased you discussed the comments by JRM. This man seems completely isolated from the real world. Maybe he has been eating hormone treated products?
Probably once last winter and again last week on the beet land on the wet headland but as we didn’t have it, I don’t know if it would of been any better. But the fuel saving more than out weighs any disadvantages.
Your crumbley weathered soil reminds me of life on my Grandads farm down on the marsh! We were mostly clay obviously, would plough after harvest and leave it to weather. Some off the land left until the spring would only take 1 pass with the disc harrows 😂. Great times, miss it alot
@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard yes indeed. I was an apprentice at Townsends (Metheringham) in the late 90's. Used to have october half term off work, head "home" with my tools and a boot of filters and service everything. We had a fleet of Ford tractors... was never going to be an apprentice on any other make! Then spent the rest of the week land working. I learnt theres one compliment you can make to a farmer.... "your ploughing looks well". Unfortunately its not taken as a compliment when the ploughman was your Grandson 😂😂
Great update. Be interesting to see the difference between Elita and Solo when you go through with the freeflow. Enjoy the FW awards, a neighbour Adam Metcalfe, AWSM is a finalist in contractor catagory. Give him a cheer. Seems an age since we were there last year. Fab night. 🎉 🎉🎉.
Just returned from my latest trip to China and the contrast in government support for farming is on another level. Maybe Mogg’s nanny gave him GM beef when he was growing up
Love these videos I just lay back enjoy watching especially when the machines are working in the fields” one question are you or have you ploughed any fields this year ?
It’s been manic for last few weeks to be honest with a lot of tv stations and press wanting to know what’s happening. Need to keep pushing it and highlight currently they are all imported.
hi andrew great video as always, im 15 years old and turn 16 in march fo i could get my tractor license but do you think any farmers would take me on? i know im restricted with size and weight but i love arable farming have my whole life, obviously im aware a farm of your size wouldnt be realistic but if i found a smaller farm what do you think? cheers
Im sure some would. It’s difficult getting a foot on the ladder without you are given the chance. I’d suggest you visit a few. Emails and letters are likely to get no response.
An Australian talking to Nob, stated that hormone fed beef couldn't be imported into the UK because of our laws banning it's use, who's telling the truth? Ollie Harrison seemed to say the opposite. Agree with you 100% about the role of the NFU.
It’s meant to be banned but in the Aus/Uk trade deal they said all beef is coming in. I’m with Olly tomorrow night, we’ll no doubt get our heads together about it.
I understand your support for the NFU with your obvious connection, but to many farmers they are no more than an Insurance company with many of my farming friends dropping there NFU membership years ago because of lack of support for farming in general.
Who do they have to be more vocal to ? Nobody takes them seriously anymore........ I, along with many others aren't sure what they actually do or stand for@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard
Great video as usual. Your way of farming obviously works on your soil. Just wondering when you're going to set foul of British Sugar and their pitiful price offer for next years crop when the world price of sugar has never been higher. Us growers share the pain when the price is low but don't benefit when it's high.
Just shows the system is rigged in my opinion. Paid not to produce a crop? Bloody bonkers and I can only see food shortage ahead. Farmers have to do what's right for them obviously and this isn't a rant at farmer's but the system has to change and somehow SOD what government say! Needs a whole new way? JR Nob! Very fitting? GB news becoming a bad as msn. Canadian gov, parliament giving a standing ovation to a 98 year old SS Nazi last week. Bloody disgusting of anyone saw it? Trudeau blaming the Russians for it! You couldn't make it up.
@beattie1976 we used to plough but not done any since 2004 and not owned one since then. Because of the high clay and silt content it ploughed terrible and needed so much work after to get a seed bed. The solo is much better. Maybe occasionally ploughing might be better to get some dry soil up, but as we’ve not got one, we never try.
