Nice video showcasing the Beaver. From all the free planes in the update I gotta say the Beaver has impressed me the most. The quality of the plane, the textures and the sounds are really good. But maybe it’s just my love for vintage planes.
Usually flying the Airliners and decided to give the Beaver a fly. I really enjoyed it and then came here to verify some details that I needed clarifying. Good starting point. I flew manually but your video helped to see how to start up the AP. The only thing I need to get used to is the speed :) It feels so slow compared to airliners obviously but really get to enjoy the views.
Nice relax video and I learned a few things.. so ya know,, if you get tired off hearing that metallic rattling sound you can tighten the yellow oil filler cap! ;)
Just to comment on your observation that the sound seems to too high pitched. In the real world the best sounding Beavers have 2 bladed props, that one has a 3 bladed prop, hence the higher pitched sound. On the coast where they encounter heavier seas and salt water, the shorter blades of the 3 blade keep the prop out of the spray. The other consideration is the 3 blades are seen as a little freindlier in noise sensitive areas. But there is no finer sound than a 2 bladed Beaver at full power in fine pitch on its takeoff run!
that rattling sound in the cockpit - I think it's the oil tank cover which needs tightening.. The Beaver is my fav GA plane. I never use the autopilot. Did not see any on the real planes. The sound is well modelled. If you want a plane that looks right at home here, there is a paint job available for Harbour Air that flies the route, albeit mostly with turboprop planes.
So fun! We had the opportunity to fly aboard a De Havilland Beaver DHC-2 in SF Bay. It was incredible! You may enjoy the footage we took: ua-cam.com/video/fNZpeHHzYpk/v-deo.html
One of my favourite additions to the game! Though, how could they not be when I happen to live in this area and get to watch them fly overhead daily? Howe Sound and the Sea-to-Sky Highway is definitely an excellent route to showcase the Beaver. An additional leg or 2 I like to make carries on north from Whistler to Lillooet Lake, just east of Pemberton and then follows a mountain pass known as Duffey Lake Rd. Following that highway, it'll take you to Duffey Lake and then onward to Seton Lake, a little east from Lillooet. Makes for a nice trip, especially at the right time of day All that being said, it's hard to go wrong with any trip in the Pacific Northwest 😅
This together with the Goose are my favorite aircraft from the 40th Anniversary. They both remind me of one one my favorite movies "All the way boys" (or "Zwei Himmelhunde auf dem Weg zur Hölle" it was called in German). The Goose I like just because it visually would have been a good fit in that movie, the DHC-2 actually was in that movie.
Great video, you got subscribing just by watching this one! A question: How can one find out which mixture (lean/rich) is correct? I could not find any instrument like EGT (exhaust gas temperature) to set like 20° lean of peak. However, when leaning to much, the power drops. But on the other hand, flying too long on the rich side will get the spark plugs fouling (IRL), I do not know if this is implemented here as e.g. in the Bonanza G36 mod.
I believe this is supposed to have an auto rich and auto lean similar to the DC3 and then you use carb heat to get it to 4 degrees C on Carb Heat. This does not model that or a different variant so you will slowly bring back the mixture until you see a slight dip in RPM's or engine roughness. Bring the mixture back rich to smooth it out/bring back power. A good way to test this is go to a high elevation airport like Aspen or Leadville. Pop on the parking brake and go full forward on everything. Then start reducing the mixture slowly (you lean pretty far) and then you will see a dip in RPM's just before it gets rough. Bring it just a little richer to keep the RPMS set and power correct.
nice vid. One thing - for startup, would you not use the wobble pump (or the electric boost pump) before using the primer? Pushback - I use it before startup, trying to do as the real pilots do. On take-off, I reduce the throttle a tad, and the prop RPM also. Have been watching real pilots.
Been a while but I went off the POH, which doesn’t always relate to best practices IRL. I went back and flew the A310 after the latest update and followed Inibuilds awesome video tutorials and he says multiple times that after talking to IRL pilots they say “yeahhhh we don’t do it that way ever”, and that’s on an airliner! I imagine Beaver pilots are even more off the cuff due to knowing the aircraft so well.
Nice video, thanks for making it! If you want to improve work on not saying 'um' and 'uh.' You can do this by watching your videos and counting them which will help you break that habit.
Nice review! And it looks like your channel have great flight sim content, so new subscriber here! 😊👍I haven't flown float planes that much in the sim, so I wonder how you dock the plane so nicely and so it stays in place. 😉
That was my biggest issue with float planes in MSFS. In the description there is a link to an add on that is essentially a push back coordinator. If you look when I’m docking I have it pulled up. You can adjust the speed and use your rudder to fine tune it. When you are done just slide the speed to zero and it hold you in place. 👌
Great video. DHC2 is my goto plane and you fly it. Agree, sounds aren't perfect. I live on Vancouver island and have been on them and see them daily. To me the real ones are like Harley Davidson of the sky. Your explanation of the controls, wind, airspace, etc. is perfect. One question. Where did you get the canoe? ps. I modded a Beaver and flew it around the world in FS9
Thanks for the kind words!! Really is such a cool plane and I’m sure that area is full of them. To get the canoe visible it is an option on the tablet.
Excellent video, good plane the DHC-2 Beaver that MSF has given us in its last update. Where can you get piers, piers like the one you show in the video for seaplane departures and arrivals...? Thank you very much for the video, best regards.
There are a lot of free community made seaports on flightsim.to , there are some scenery packages to download as well. Makes flying the seaplane super fun!
cool and where did you get the docks and.... there is away to tuck the Tab away look for the Beaver Mod " DHC-2 Beaver Action Pack " and the sound is correct.
Thanks! That is exactly what I was needing to improve this just a little more! I downloaded the Seaports off Flightsim.to - there is a couple of packages that you have to download as well to have the update models all work. They are usually linked in the description of the airport.
There are some other downloads to get for it too. They are all on flightsim.to as well. They are packages with new scenery like the docks and buildings and such. I did the exact same thing when I first downloaded it!
@@sprocketsimulations The carb heat is to keep the carb warm at reduced power so you don't get icing. At higher power settings there is enough ambient heat from the engine. It is standard procedure in all carburated engines to apply carb heat on landing approach, especially in high humidity and cooler temps. Applying carb heat at full power would not overheat the engine, it would result in lower power output due to the lower density of the warm air from the carb heat. GG
As far as I can tell there is not an in-cockpit button but if you start your flight from a ramp or parking spot vs a runway it will be cold and dark. You can then use keyboard shortcut "Y" to slew and position the aircraft where ever you want and still be cold and dark. If you prefer to start on a runway, you can hit crtl+shift+E and that will shut it down but will not be cold and dark. Thanks for watching!

There are lots of free seaports available to download on flightsim.to these are the only two I have used so far. Very cool to have the docks and details!!
How do you start cold and dark at the dock? When I click the “harbour” icon in the map, it automatically picks a runway for me and engine is running. Any help would be great thank you!
Look for actual parking spots either in the drop down or on the map. They can sometimes be pretty far away from the icon. If there are none then shut it down and slew over to a dock.
