- “When I was young my heroes had megazords, adamantium claws, and vampire slaying whips. They were spectacular and unlocked my imagination. But after the events of the past few years my heroes have changed, and now anyone who selflessly enriches a child’s life is a hero to me. This entry is a love letter to a man who showed us what being a good neighbor looks like,” - Adi.
Today is Mr. Roger's 90th Birthday. Happy Birthday Mr. Rogers. You taught us well.
**Winner of the 2016 ScreenCraft Bootleg Universe Short Screenplay Competition**
To every good man who did bad things for a good cause. Thank you and thank you for rising above it all and being an example for young men everywhere.
I LOVE how he holds the Commander accountable with the swear jar.
If putting a nickel in the swear jar is a load-bearing part of your best NCO's sanity, you put a nickel the f*€%&ing jar.
@@Grizabeebles :)
Is the sequel going to be about bob Ross as a sniper?
No, Bob Ross was in the Air Force.
The air force has snipers.
he does have a way with layouts with trees and clouds. So he definitely has experience with landscape layouts for the best spots.
Adrian&Liz2035 right, but Fred Rodgers also wasn’t in the military at all, so I figured if we’re being fictitious, why not go full tilt boogie
And for lovers of the sharp shooter class and you can look it up Dr Ruth was a sniper in the Israeli military.
"The fight raged on for a century
many lives were claimed but eventually
the champion stood-the rest saw their better
Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater."
Sai this is the ultimate smhashbrosthe weirdest in history
Hahahahahahaha classic
Even after 12 years, I can still recite that ending line like I heard it a minute ago.
So Mr. Rogers is basically the inspiration for The Punisher and Rambo....that explains the “red” sweaters.
yep
Mr. Rogers is Captain America.. he went back in time to live his best life with his sweetheart and teach us how to be.. the best we are with understanding, love and strength of character.
John Wick in a cardigan
The inspiration for first Rambo movie is an italian guy... Raffaele Minichiello, read his story.

This is a great "What if?" story. (In reality, Fred McFreely Rogers never served in the armed forces, never got any tattoos and was a devout pacifist who never fired a gun)
Yeah, and I kind of want to believe he would find this a touching tribute to his life (aside from the foul language and violence, which he wasn't a fan of given he was a minister, though I'm sure he would appreciate the sentiment behind it and the emotions it conveyed). I'm sure he'd have been proud to have made such an impact on a generation of kids and kids culture for years to come.
Yeah it's hilarious to hear people tell that bullshit story about how he was a sniper and he'd say "Hello Neighbor" before shooting someone LMFAO
@@streetrat48 I'd say its a shame such bs and much more is believed, and be reminded that we're going to stand as one, or fall. Sarcasm is killing more than comedy.
Thanks for that, Captain Obvious
Steve?
That moment when the Bootleg Universe makes a better short film than your county's entire movie industry.
4 years alter and still true.
I love how he just pulls out a Swear Jar.
I actually think Mr Rogers would be very pleased with this top notch production. I certainly loved it!
Frank Castle is dead, call me.. Mr. Rogers
lol dont ruin it
Lol!
I grew up watching Mr Rogers, he instilled in my mind goodness and kindness. He taught me a sense of fairness and taught me valuable lessons I have passed down to my children. He did this through imagination, such as this story, I watched this through the eyes of my younger self and true or not it made me at peace for his passing. He may be gone but through his teachings Mr Rogers will always be immortal.
I love this. It was a legit tribute to Mr. Rogers who is honestly one of my heroes.
Tony Gore you do know he didn’t actually serve right?
@@DrAmoveo It's still a good tribute to him.
@@DrAmoveo yes he did. Army special operations, vietnam
Getting major Forrest gump vibes, I'm digging it
Lmao me also
Same
Now mr rogers is played by forrest gump
The actor playing Mr. Rogers, could play Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic.. he looks exactly like the character in the beginning; and, his voice fits the demeanor too.
I could totally see him as the patriach of the first family
This, is facts.
Mr Rogers reboot looks great!
ziljin hahaha hes kick ass and take names yet he still clearn with words
"This wont McFeely very good." is now my new catch phrase.
The legend precedes the truth in some cases. In 100 years, this will probably be accepted as a biographical documentary.
"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."
I can't ever look at this dude the same way again 0.0
Love what some people can do on a semi-low budget
This "Bootleg Universe" is one of the best ideas I've ever come across, keep it up!
This was effing AWESOME!!! Like every kid out there back in the day I watched Mr. Rogers, but I confess there were other shows I enjoyed more like Sesame Street and the Electric Company and, going way back, Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo; but in hindsight, and with the new documentary coming out, there's something about ol' Fred that strikes a chord of goodness and decency and honesty that endures to this day and kinda chokes me up when I watch footage of him now.
And a funny, related story to the video: I was talking with a neighbor about Mr. Rogers, probably in the context of urban myths and legends, and he brings up the whole Fred Rogers/navy seal thing and I immediately go, "Y'know that's all bullshit, right? He was too old to serve and he wouldn't have had time between school and the show starting to fight in fucking Vietnam," and he goes, "No, he really served in the military," and I'm like, "Dude, literally EVERY website and article I've ever seen says it's bullshit," and he's like, "Dude, I saw him in person, he did a talk, and he straight up said all that Vietnam stuff is absolutely TRUE."
Say whaaaaaat? So maybe my neighbor was kidding, even though he never said so, which sorta defeats the purpose of the joke-and what would be gained by casting doubt in my mind about Mr. Roger's military service? I've yet to spend a single sleepless night pondering the possible tattoos he kept hidden under his sleeves. And if my neighbor WAS telling the truth, was Fred Rogers just fucking with the audience that day or night? A topic like 'Nam and his being an ex-killing machine doesn't seem like the kind of thing that kind, gentle man would've used as humor, unless he was also a secret stand-up comedian...weeeirrrd.
Anyway, one more time: Awesome. Fucking. Video. I bow down to you all, as does Mr. Rogers. Just don't get too close 'cause he's DEADLY.
And this is why Hollywood stinks. This 14 minute movie is better than everything that came out last year.
Also: there is a mighty fine line between Fred Rogers and Steve Rogers.
Frank Turk dude you're moron there were tons of good movies last year
Your comments are so genuine Robert Mae! And Shape of Water didn't answer the real questions therefore shouldn't have won... I wanted to see them boink to answer the real question: Was he a fish from the waist up and a man down below or???
Robert Mae did you just say black panther and that movie where some British chick fucks Aquaman is better than this
The Shape of Water was derivative - and not in any good way. Black Panther came out this year (2018) not last year.
Yeah, this was a great short and very well done, but let's not over hype it. There were quite a few good movies that were better then this that came out last year. Plus, there were flaws in this, quite a few. But, overall it was still great and we don't have to downplay other things that came out that were also great. There's plenty of love to go around. Did you learn nothing from Mr. Rogers?
I'm not crying, you're crying. We're crying. Excellent film!
that was surprisingly good :) best 14 min movie ever.
The Swear jar had me dead lmao
“This won’t McFeely very good”
Please tell me I’m not the only one who noticed this.
lol the swear jar... i think everyone i know (inc myself) needs this!! ...Great video
This is sheer creative genius.
Mr.Rogers the Bad ass...he could've started his own A-Team. AND WHERE DOES HE PUT THE SWEAR JAR, WHEN HE'S NOT USING IT?!
You may not want the answer to that question!
Psy-Ko oh no...
Lol yeah it's a dark place
Hammerspace
That was alot better then I thought it was going to be . Thanks from a childhood Mr. Rogers fan you got the message right .
This legit made me cry, amazing work!
Won't you please be my neighbor...😭😭😭
So I'm in tears watching this, so good!!
I thought it was an urban legend, still could be a great biopic
Mister Rogers was never in the army, but I love the concept of the origin. I'd would still watch this. Looks dope!!!
I've been wondering when the next Bootleg would be coming. Great work Adi. Love you're work!
Great work as always. I'd say they need to put you at the helm of a high budget feature right now, but your other work like Bootleg Universe and Castlevania is just too damn enjoyable.
Kenlon Clark wrote, shot, directed, and edited this?!? Kevin Feige needs to give that guy an MCU feature!
Robert Mae! I'm sure there is a list you could sign up on! Just got to know the right people! Your time with all of these comments are appreciated by the creators I'm sure!
hate is love ... rebooted....
So Disney could bully him into submission like they do all the other directors? No thanks.
@@TheN1ghtwalker James Gunn is probably the only one who didn't get fucked over by Disney, which is quite unexpected considering even somebody like Sam Raimi was only really allowed to lend a hand in the visuals and fight scenes of Doctor Strange 2, not anything else. Which is very unfortunate.
I'm so glad we have things like Mr Rogers in our lives. Everything else I eventually grew out of but Mr Rogers is like that classic record you never grow tired of. I have a few of those that I save for special occasions or when I need a reminder of what matters to me since I was little. Somehow I knew even then in spite of all the noise & distractions around me.
GREAT PIECE!!! Intense, great acting, editing!! Chris you NAILED IT !!! Kudos to Adi--
Adi, you've done it again! This is the 2nd show I fondly look back on from my youth, that you have taken and made into an example of how any IP can mature with it's audience. EXCELLENT! (I also loved Dredd, btw)
That was wonderful. Thank you, Adi.
absolutely awesome! just recently discovered this urban legend. the one I heard had his arms and torso completely tatted out
Fucking awesome and amazing. Insert quarter in swear jar. Mr. Rodgers was one of the best growing up.
Bigger Budget and the right actors and boy is this going to be a block buster.
Loved it! Great work. Kenlon's on the map for sure now.
even as a solider he still remain the same a good man
Tom Hanks ain’t got shit on this
Swear jar!
Yea, this guy is a good pick, he looks and sounds like Mr. Rogers
Aaayyyeee shout out to you for making this Short Movie fam
Don't know if I'm supposed to cry or laugh
Amazing! Love you Adi. You inspire me.
wasnt paying full attention when it started but its silly and fun and committed, giggled id say if anyone was pressing me
I love everything about this.
This is what mr Rogers would have done
This was Sincerely legitimately good
This was quite beautiful.
I loved that swear jar bit too much 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I got emotional when Tuesday died. I didn't know Mr.Rogers, but I now I'll check out about him. Good work Adi. 👌
Fred Rogers, the Rod Serling of children's television (and my hero, now as then).
The next Captain America
Excellent job! Thanks. I enjoyed it immensely.
Man, somebody brought up the Punisher: Dirty Laundry short, and I'm like, "These guys need to do a Fred Rogers/Frank Castle team-up in Vietnam!" Think about it, dudes.
We're gonna need a bigger swear jar.
@@georgemiser lol yes
@@devonking3580 It's been 3 years but I still want this team up idea brought to life
The swear jar is the star of this short.
I had a permanent smile watching this.
Trolley. That's gold.
I know its too late, but armchair says it should have shifted him also preparing for his legendary congressional testimony. This all has a tralfamadorian (?) Sense to it. You have a real full lengther here.
Man I got all the feels
This Rogers is our real captain America
Legitimately great.
that was awesome, great work.
This is a really nice "what if" on if Mr Rogers did get accepted in the Military.
Its also nice seing this isn't taken as a joke sense he tried to go in the militarily but was rejected with his "supposed" medical condition
@3:43 - 'For the next few years we were inseparable.' In Nam, most tours were done in 1 year; since it was a draft, very few re-upped unless they were fucking nuts.
Fantastic work. I went to look up "Fred Rogers" and noticed this wasn't exactly how "Mr.Roger's Neighborhood" was manifested, in fact looking at comments, this story was deemed an urban legend. But either way, this was an amazing tribute to such an amazing personality. I especially liked the bits of satire with the "Swear Jar" and seeing his fellow troops named "Friday", "Tuesday", and "McFeely". Also the moment where Fred popped out that quip, "This won't "McFeely" good". That was really clever, and that's not sarcasm. :)
😢beautiful....
Was half expecting a certain Wakandan monarch to show up and say get this man a shield
There's no need to watch that Tom Hanks flick now! 😂
Beautiful depiction! Thank You Mr Rogers for your service in the military and in Public Broadcasting!
He was never actually in the military. That's an urban legend.
This actually made me cry but I have one question. I know Tuesday died but what happened to Friday?
Josh Williams imagin he showed up in Mr. Roger's show and they both had a big happy reunion
Imagine if he played the mailman on the show!
There a movie with a similar title lol
Thought Dr. Thawn ran back in time for a hot sec
I’m reading these comments.....and it’s so sad that people don’t know Mr ROGERS. Either I’ve gotten very old.......or todays youth is ignorant of one of the greatest children shows of all time. Either way.......this proves that things are much worse than I had thought!
Lazy Bastard i agree. I am dissapointed in todays youth.
Agreed. Today's youth needs role models like this, instead of whatever random youtuber they have these days.
Or, you know, the generation's of old never cared about Mr. Rogers or his influence enough to introduce him for the newer generation. But hey, it's easier complaining about the ignorant being ignorant then it is the educated not teaching them.
I’m disappointed mostly at Teen Titans Go.
Woah shoulda totally made a high budget movie out of this idea!
Man, this was pretty epic. Loved it!!
Thank you, neighbors.
Every time it fucking Rules Adi. Great work.
Rod Krimple that goes in the swear jar
@@Ethan-en2ij itd be well worth it. its going to something big
This is much better than the shit Funny or Die did. Side note: I would love to see the making of for this
its coming...and you will be shocked how hard and low budget it was with dedicated people that wanted to make it happen
Miss you Mr. Rogers...RIP...
This is fu 👑 amazing right on my brother from another mother right on!
Lots of comments pointing out that the real Fred Rogers never served in the military and doubtful he ever fired a shot in anger. That said why am I only now finding these? The entire playlist is friggin AWESOME.
Nice!!! Always knew rogers was a badass!
WTF This Is awesome..
*Swear Jar*
Aeonyx7840 Me: Throws a dollar In The Jar..
I was going to say swear jar but he didn’t actually say the actual word.
Way ,Way cool man .Im feeling it big time great job.
Mr rogers could end any war by giving a speech
He was one of the best snipers in the Vietnam War, i found out, he has over 50 kills and painted his tattoos for every one of them, he was part of covert ops DEVGRU for 4 years in secret, which is Seal Team 6, obviously he didnt approve of children seeing anything about it, the first super soldiers ever bred even before Desert Storms and the armored sentry as of now. He was deadly, he was a swift killer and respected by his superiors, and me myself, i was in the 28th Infantry Special Troops Detachment ARNG in Desert Storm, Task Force 20, i was a covert op(I was a not non commissioned though i was a citizen guerrilla) so i can see just how it worked with Mister Rogers.
Lump in my throat, this here made me almost cry...
He sounds like a very young stan lee RIP STAN LEE 🙏🙏🙏
Thumbs up man, gr8 vid, enjoyed it! ;) Loved your Frank Castle and Power Rangers bootlegs too, even more so than the actual Netflix and movie that came out after both of 'em. Just a damn shame you and Tom Jane didn't come back officially and make that Punisher Netflix show or movie... just bringing up Dirty Laundry, because its my all-time favorite fan-film/bootleg, just hope we get a sequel to it one day, you and Jane were perfect... aaaah what could have been!
This is an incredibly inspiring work of art. Thank you so much for your dedication, and I hope to one day work alongside you. Stay blessed =)
Mr. Rogers was a Marine, and this movie was painful to watch from every technical aspect, until I just suspended my disbelief and appreciated the art.
I legit cried when he couldn’t finish the catchphrase awesome shit Chris Jericho was right to recommend this
Really good work Mr Shankar .. you are a very talented and thoughtful film maker.. My Pop was a warrant officer. WOC 3 1st Air Cav flew in Pleiku and in Au Sha valley 1965.
Mr. Rogers was a badass!
