@@shepherdofthewest4216 -- I like Tom Hardy's take on Eddie. That version of Eddie wasn't written to have the same level of amoral narccisim as the Eddie from the comics. I'm sure if Eddie "fell off the wagon" and the script went in that direction, Hardy would play it well.
As a former Marvel Editorial staff, I find this a very interesting take on the Venom. I like the fact that Eddie is portrayed as a psychopath rambling about his distorted version of "truth and justice". But Venom was a character who would've actively save the man in the alley by either mutilating or killing the muggers. His brutal actions would terrify the victim far more than the muggers. And this is what make him a villain instead of a dark hero. That's the 1 aspect I would've liked to see.
@@shepherdofthewest4216 I lived in NY back then and got into Marvel through a high school internship. It's always good to live near a company that you would like to work for, because when the opportunity become available, it's easier to go in to apply and get an interview. But nowadays, everyone uses LinkedIn to search and apply and conduct interviews. It is all online, so you'll just have to check consistently to see if something within your interest and ability comes up if you want to work In-staff. "Venom" is a character who has WILDLY differed since his conception. Let's face it, a *large* part of why is that he became so popular, so Marvel wanted to lean into making him more likeable/sympathetic.

The ‘lady friend’ of a ‘colleague’ he has to go see after he leaves the bar was likely Mj or Black Cat as Venom terrorized both of them before he went head to head with SpiderMan
I love how it's both set in the crime wave of the 80's, and the insane self love of Venom. This needs to be either a length feature or at least just more of it, period.
Other than Eddie smoking, this was perfect. Eddie is from California, but the accent works really well. I like the interpretation of him vomiting up the symbiote, even though it is his clothes. Adds a nice disturbing feel to an already unhinged character. This is the Venom film we need and deserve. Kudos also for all the references to what was going on in the comics at that time.
This is the most interesting interpretation of Eddie Brock I've ever seen. How did Sam Raimi, of all people, make him so boring? The symbiote is basically a demon from space and some one famous for the horror genre should be able to utilize that.
Huva-snak3 Not true. Venom was shoehorned into the third movie because of studio interference so the character and the movie suffered for it. Had Sam Raimi been able to place him in the fourth film, he could have dedicated more time to exploring the character.
RikkiReptar I think being merged with a "Klyntar" sounds similar to demonic possession even if the stories don't evoke the super-natural. The symbiote has interests counter to your own and attempts to make you do horrible things that you ordinarily wouldn't do. It's not exactly the same, but either one can turn a good person into a monster.
1337rofflecopters It's not a "merge" a merge is when one thing becomes something else. It's symbiosis, which means it works in harmony with you. Tho some of the Klyntar, namely the first generations of that species were good, some were corrupted. It may make you do bad things, but a Klyntar also feed off the hosts desires as well. I'd also like to add the fat that Venom wasn't a "monster" hence the fact he was never a villain. He was an anti-hero. Venom and Eddie Brock both just hated Spider-Man. Venom actually protected the innocent in his first many years and later on Eddie settles his differences with Spider-Man even with the Venom attached to him. In recent history the Venom symbiote was trapped and tamed by the Avengers, who then gave it to Flash Thompson to give him another chance at fighting for his country since his legs were blown off in Afghanistan. Venom is part of the "Secret Avengers" crew and is also doing missions with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Flash is also in full control tho it has a tendency to lash out on certain occasions when provoked... nothing is any bit of demonic about the Klyntar.
All believable, I don't doubt any of this for a second. This is seriously how it's done...if the people at Marvel don't come knocking then they're nuts.

Yeah, he was sometimes was comedic and cracking jokes in the comics but.....the idea of an alien goo from space is supposed to be creepy and this short film delivers that, especially at the end.
The one commenter who suggested a David Lynch directed Venom movie was right on the money. I'm not a big fan of his work, but he could easily recreate the sort of vibe this fan-made movie had going on, except it would be for an entire feature film.
This is the single greatest interpretation of Venom I've ever seen, Ryan Kwanten is the perfect choice to play him, Eddie Brock deserves a GOOD live action adaptation, and you, sir, have provided one. From a die-hard Venom fan, thank you.

Interesting how there were some deep references to the comics. Emil Gregg (Sin-eater), District X (a not so Xavier Institute, mutant populated neighbourhood of NYC) and Bullseye(?) by the end. Happy you made my favorite villan look awesome and happy he finally got the credit he deserves. Now on to CARNAGE please. Kudos again
I think it's another reference. I love this fan-film for all the subtle little things in it; the conversations between Eddie and the Other, the dead criminal he hung from the fire exit, ''I ate my sins - literally (Sin-Eater reference, in the comics he lost his job at the Bugle after doing a massive exposé on a fake Sin-Eater, costing him his reputation)'' and that snuff film set. This is how Venom should be done, and holy shit, he did this brilliantly.
UnseenGriffin Oh that's right. That was when Venom scared the shit out of her so much that Peter had to retire his black Spiderman suit at her request.
Seriously? It's all there!! So many references to Brock's history & Spidey comics in general from the time. All the Bugle newspapers, the Sin-Eater references & Eddie's disgrace from that, the insane weight-lifting, the newspapers all over the wall, the church, that whole discussion about it, it was all there and it was so great!!!
good luck seeing this from marvel, that's why i love this guy ( by the way he's the director in the post credits ) in a single 17 min video he brought spider man and daredevil together . he can do whatever he wants and nobody can f0cking touch him . i love you Adi
I agree - I cannot fathom how THIS could hurt anything legally ? Because of the 80´s movie-song that Bullseye is humming in the end ? Come on ! And surely not because of the comic book characters. FUCK YOU youtube ! I am so sick of that copyright censoring heap of filth. GOD. You can watch it anywhere on the net, sure. But still, why ? Why the heck ? Anyway, great movie, thanks for ruining the upload you bureaucratic selfrighteous scumbags...
Absolutely brilliant take on Eddie Brock that could easily expand into and holds it's own in a full-length film.I love how effortlessly the Man Bites Dog mockumentary style mixes into the Marvel universe.Personally,I liked the way the way the FX were approached. It gave u just enough of a few quick looks into how truly terrifying that character could be.It's proof that clever writing, skilled actors, and creative directing will always stand the test of time over the crap Hollywood tries to sell us.Joe Lynch and Ryan Kwanten are the kind of talent that Marvel fans deserve :)
Love the way that Eddie clicks the pen ready for Bullseye's kill. Such brilliant attention to detail. Been watching this for years and am constantly inspired by it.
I did not know what to expect but honestly now that it's over... I think I really like it. The ending was still somewhat unsettling despite a low budget and I just love all the Spider-Man newspapers on the walls of that room. A unique version of Eddie Brock and Venom I'd have to say and way better than Topher Grace. How another commenter mentioned he doesn't carry a lighter and how the sound cut out right before Venom was literally thrown up by Eddie I appreciate. Also how he just cut that guy off when he mentioned Spider-Man and the rant about him being the hero and protecting the city. I kinda love how he acts so upbeat a lot when he's just killing as many people as it seems he is. It felt unique especially with being in black and white. Great job guys! Definitely was a slow burn. Solid short-film overall. I'd like a whole Venom movie like this with more budget or it might sound crazy but maybe even a TV show. Disney+ show anybody now that there's a Multiverse? It's not likely but I'd probably watch it.
@@brownbearboxproductions3458 Yeah I don't like how quickly Marvel moved onto the multiverse because it just makes things all the more complicated than they need to be. Fionna and Cake is a great representation of the multiverse outside of comic-related media and even then you still have the Spider-Verse movies so I think it's not the worst thing right now, in fact it's an interesting idea, but the MCU has sorta over-used it.
Apparently I'm late to the show by two years (just saw this for the first time), but this is really, really clever in a meta way! In the tradition of the unreliable narrator, Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom, is a brilliant choice as a focal lens by which to deconstruct media production and consumption. And the layers keep piling on, as a defrocked journalist who also harbors a secret dark persona (Venom) that lives off of extreme human emotion filmed by young filmmakers who, not unlike the alien symbiote, makes a living off of the high drama of human emotions. It's ironic that the filmmakers "comeuppance" comes not from being voyeuristic spectators (becoming complicit in producing essentially a snuff film), but from their objection to morally compromise the integrity of their film by refusing Brock's funding. And the fact that, within the context of the story line, their film was STILL produced despite the filmmakers THEMSELVES being killed, is the satirical "piece de resistance" in which all players involved, filmmakers, subject, and audience, exploit truth for their own ends--double entendre not withstanding!
Well that escalated really quick! Holy shit the fact that this fan made Venom short was better than the entire actual Venom 2018 movie by Sony should tell you something.
Wow, this is one of the most amazing independent shorts I've ever seen. I'm in awe of how good this was. Great job! Best of all, the whole thing felt very true to the real character of Eddie Brock from the original Michelinie-McFarlane stories.

Hey I see you commented on this after the video has been muted, there's actually a copy with audio on Vimeo if you wanted to hear sound, and the actual actors, just spreading the word.
Man , I love your work! I just discovered your online series last night, and I'm blown away. These shorts are better than 90% of the crap that the movie industry pumps out. Film is art! More directors and producers need to treat it that way. Thanks, for all you hard work I really appreciate it.
JiminyCriket That may have been the dumbest comment ever. One she was marginally cute, not as cute as Abigail Breslin or Quvenzhane Wallis when they were nominated. She was actually the best performer in a great movie with a gifted cast in her very first role. Did she peek? Maybe, but that doesn't take away from her talent.
JiminyCriket Have you seen The Piano? It's easily one of the greatest movies I've ever seen and every single lead performance on that film deserved an Oscar (especially Holly Hunter). Paquin's win was not a fluke. That said... Maybe she did peak, but if you honestly think that X-Men is not a huge enough franchise when its been keeping Fox up and the first film was one of (and possibly the most direct) the main progenitors of the comic book film, then goddamn do you have nothing to say about film.
This was a great way to keep to the source material while also telling an original story! I'm also loving the fact that so much of the character was shown through small pieces. Subtle nods, but it's always the small details that shine the brightest.
Brilliant! I love the attention to detail with the mid-80's references. And the end sequence was amazing. The video director said some of the funniest lines in the film.
I would like you to do a Star Wars bootleg. Captured rebel pilot being interrogated by Imperial agents. An interrogation conversation about terrorism. Some political satire. Real, gritty, and culturally relevant. Or something better in the same range. Then again, I don't know you, maybe you hate that shit. ; p
For those who are wondering why the audio cuts out, the song played on the radio is "You Belong to the City" by Glenn Frey. If you like the eerie silence, watch this version. If you want the un-edited version, watch on Vimeo.
Yeah! What the fuck?! So, if I'm out on a sidewalk, doing a 'walk and talk', and someone drives by with the stereo turned up for 4 seconds, my entire 17 minute video is going to be muted?

I love this fan-film for all the subtle little things in it; the conversations between Eddie and the Other, the dead criminal he hung from the fire exit, ''I ate my sins - literally (Sin-Eater reference, in the comics he lost his job at the Bugle after doing a massive exposé on a fake Sin-Eater, costing him his reputation)'' and that snuff film set. This is how Venom should be done, and holy shit, he did this brilliantly.
SlimSuedey A subtle reference to Venom: Dark Origin is at 8:02. The "lady friend" is actually Mary Jane Watson.
UnseenGriffin Oh that's right. That was when Venom scared the shit out of her so much that Peter had to retire his black Spiderman suit at her request.
In all honesty, Venom did the whole ''honey, I'm home!'' thing to MJ in ASM# 299, but the Dark Origin version sticks out in my head a lot more!
You mean the guy with the bullseye marking on his forehead who has perfect accuracy?
Nah, no.
That was the penguin. Can't you see?
Phenomenal. Between this and True Blood I'm convinced Ryan Kwanten is one of the most, if not the most underrated actor working today.
Love this movie so much. The most authentic portrait of Venom ever put on film.
Love how this is full of references and sits nicely before the events of Amazing spider-man 300.
This is like a John Carpenter/David Cronenberg-influenced take on Venom.
This reminded me about Nightcrawler. Eddie Brock is the original nightcrawler
Especially if you read Venom: Dark Origins, where he literally stole a girl’s cat and acted like he saved it when he gave it back to her.
It's cool Ryan Kwanten's in it! He's a good actor.
good luck seeing this from marvel, that's why i love this guy ( by the way he's the director in the post credits ) in a single 17 min video he brought spider man and daredevil together . he can do whatever he wants and nobody can f0cking touch him . i love you Adi
Man, would i wouldn't kill to see Andrew Garfield and Ryan Kwantan duking it out!
"the audio has been muted because lol content ID" fuck youtube
Agreed.
+Kevin B. wow this is such a good short film, fuck those fucking youtube copyright claims! How the fuck was this hurting anyone? Fucking hollywood!
I dont get why they muted it. I thought it was legal to make fan made content
It is also because alot of copyrighted 80's songs are in it.
I absolutely hope you guys make a sequel to this , if you made a sequel I would genuinely pay a lot to see it.
How does this only have a million views?!??!??!??!!
This video is better than the whole spiderman 3 movie.
too true!
You need to be our president you spit nothing but Fact
Venom was forced into the third movie, of course this is be better
Stop hating Spider-man 3!
and all two venom films
this is literally my favourite interpretation of eddie brock in anything ever holy
How ids this guy NOT on Hollywood's radar!? I'm an obsessive Venom fan &this made my tummy tickle unlike anything bearing the name.
Show of hands, who wants Ryan Kwanten as Eddie Brock\Venom ?
Since Marvel has the rights to Spiderman, I suggest they get on that :-P
***** Just my opinion. This wasn't a bad performance though
Marvel doesn't have the rights to Spider-Man Sony still completely owns them they are just collaborating
Marvel doesn't have the rights to Spider-Man Sony still completely owns them they are just collaborating
Marvel doesn't have the rights back, they are merely in an agreement with Sony.
they already have a tom hardy to play venom in the upcoming venom movie not sure who will play carnage tho
Love the way that Eddie clicks the pen ready for Bullseye's kill. Such brilliant attention to detail. Been watching this for years and am constantly inspired by it.
This is the Venom film we should've had oct 2021.
this is sooo cool i love this take on eddie brock/venom. the cut from him closing the door to opening it right away dressed is so flawless
If they do , they should never even reference a multiverse , definitely the worst part of modern superhero stuff
I think this nailed Eddie as a character. I've honestly never seen anything capture Eddie The Journalist quite like this.
I like how they referenced sin-eater from the comics, golden.
Reminds me of Man Bites Dog for some weird reason.
More like a direct homage, which is why there are hardcoded french subtitles in the vid.
a really inspired mashup of the Venom comics and MAN BITES DOG (1992).. Bravo Joe Lynch, Adi Shankar, Ryan Kwanten, & everyone else involved
Adi, you should take a crack at Carnage. If you make Venom this good, well...
haltrman93 Not at all. You have to appreciate Kasady in his human form as well, just like Brock to understand what makes him crazy.
Carnage is lame compaired to Venom..Kinda like Superboy. so far down the rabbit hole.
**I actually have the 1st issue of Carnage from late 1980's. I dunno what it's worth..it's available for trade.
I want vintage skate shoes(size 10.5-11.5) or THrasher skate mags etc.. message me if you have the sht I'm seeking
C T what is this a swap meet
Joe Lynch is the filmmaker, he and the cast deserve credit for the execution of this project
Love this character through the 'Man Bites Dog' format. Excellent work, guys.
I think the most shocking thing about this film is honest journalists refusing to accept money.
This guy Ryan Kwanten is an excellent actor.
How do you figure? True Blood doesnt have any good actors.
Spaw PetSalon You know you're probably right. I guess Anna Paquin's Oscar was during a bad year for movies.
Yeah, I mean she had to go against Rosie Perez and Winona Ryder for that Oscar. Unbelievable achievement.
This was a great way to keep to the source material while also telling an original story! I'm also loving the fact that so much of the character was shown through small pieces. Subtle nods, but it's always the small details that shine the brightest.
Cinematography is amazing and goes well with the atmosphere of the film
Brilliant! I love the attention to detail with the mid-80's references. And the end sequence was amazing. The video director said some of the funniest lines in the film.
Better than the two venom films
So good. If Hollywood wasn't so littered with incompetence, we'd see more of this on a grander scale.
This is absolutely brilliant! Man bites dog homage WITH VENOM?!
More more more! Bullseye was an awesome add! Dirty laundry was way entertaining and so was this...can't wait to see what else is coming!!
Matt Murdock Vimeo's good but the hassle to re-register if you don't have an account isn't working for me
Thanks for the information man. vimeo.com/79697570
It pains me to see this won't become a full length film, this would kick ass.
I love this fan film , I bet this is set in James Cameron’s spiderman universe
This really shows how frightening it is to be a normal civilian in the marvel universe
1:27 Uh... Eddie? Your Venom is showing...
Man, I can't wait to see what you have planned for this year!
Moonknight? Ghost Rider? Blade? Keep em coming!
You couldn't just mute the part that is copyrighted? What the fuck why did the whole video get muted?
i guess it's a good thing i can read french, but totally i wish the sound was still there
Team Bonflower You can watch the video with sound on vimeo
cool, thanks
Yeah! What the fuck?!
So, if I'm out on a sidewalk, doing a 'walk and talk', and someone drives by with the stereo turned up for 4 seconds, my entire 17 minute video is going to be muted?
Murphies Law Probably just some automated copyright thing, if they didn't license the song it makes perfect sense.
this needs more views this short film is absolutely wonderful
So I watched the Punisher Power/Rangers and now Venom very nice job. The Joker's story told from this "man bites dog" style POV might be cool as well.
vVenom at the end took me by surprise! Thank you Adi Shankar 😄😄😄
14 minute short...
More Venom than the entirety of Spider-man 3
This is the most comic book accurate Eddie Brock you'd ever see.
This was just flat-out amazing.
Cant beleive it someone finally got eddie brock and the transformation to venom 100% mind blown. Everything is perfect to the working and the news paper clippings this just perfect u need to a longer version this can totally spin off to a full movie thanks for making this venom fan happy and staying true to the character
If they ever did a Constantine film he would be perfect.
That's what I was thinking back then
Best homage to "C'est Arrivé Pres de Chez Vous" i ever saw so far.
Imagine this as a David Lynch film..... Nightmares galore...
Such a refreshing film for a true Spider-Man and Venom fan!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
This and Dirty Laundry are already some of the best marvel films of all time. This is what those pop acts are missing
I really can't say enough good things about this. This short 17 minutes was better than all the summer comic book flicks.
Why's noone talking about BULLSEYE being in this?? 16:30
