Hate to bust your bubble, but this was a guest appearance. But I think NBC should coax him him to return as a regular host on SNL, even if they have to pay him $70 million. Throughout his extensive career, SNL remains his best work.
Eddie i great when it comes to doing TV skits on SNL, bu the truth is that his movies are lousy, especially in recent years. I think Coming to America 2 will just another disappointment.

I died when Mr. Robinson showed “racist” on the tv he stole. Just everything about that part was perfect. Edit: coming back 11 months later and holy crap so many people are just saying the most ignorant shit about black people. I wasn’t laughing at the fact that mr Robinson pulled the “I’m black” card. I’m laughing that after making a scene about not stealing anything the screen pans over to all the stuff he stole. If you’re using an snl skit as justification to feel better about your shitty behavior then it says a lot about you as a person. Snl is known for being progressive so idk why there are so many “anti sjws” here.
It's so good to Eddie Murphy back at SNL to host on December 21, 2019 for the first time after 35 years and respiring his famous characters Mr. Robinson, Buckwheat, Gumby and Velvet Jones. I love him, he's funny. A comedy legend. 😃😀
As a 20 year old. It was so exciting to finally get to see Eddie do SNL live and absolutely kill it like it was the 80’s. So happy to finally witness Mr. Robinson, Buckwheat, and Gumby, dammit.
I.ll bet the ratings were thru the roof I haven't watched an episode in years just clips but I didn't think it was that good tho but I continue to be a eddy Murphy fan
Thats right. It accurately depicts how some black people happily weaponize the accusation of racism when they are in fact guilty. Happens every day. It also depicts how weak some white people are as they cave in instead of standing firm. They are so afraid of that racism accusation that they self denigrate and humiliate themselves. I am not one of them. There are many of us who are not. I am not a racist and I don't care if someone calls me a racist as I know who I am. But I see a lot of racism these days all right. Not from white people despite the lies and lying propaganda claiming it is. Many Black people are proud of their hatred of white people. Each day another black person rapes and/or murders a white person. Meanwhile most alleged white on black hate crimes turn out to be hoaxes. Black people have to make up lies or refer to cases from many decades back to justify their claims of rampant racism.
Eyes open wide I wouldn’t say all that, I think your perception is firmly rooted in your experience which is valid but be open to the idea that your perception is limited and allow it to change with new experiences. Racism works both ways but the institutional racism to which we (minorities) mostly find an issue (exhibited in police brutality etc) is still pretty prevalent. Sure there are many people who “cry wolf” but let’s not forget there is still a very real issue.
Mr. Robinson did mention that 23 people used 23andMe what claims that he is their father and have shown up on his doorstep. Perhaps he was sexually active since the last time we saw him.
Robert Richardson: Have you forgotten SNL’s Golden Age? The show was already funny. Eddie Murphy’s legacy is more about being the most legendary of “not ready for prime time” players and having proven that the show can move forward without the original cast. At the time SNL was in the earliest stage of the show’s Silver Age with Murphy leading the way.
Robert Richardson: But it was less about keeping SNL strong and more about proving that the show could move forward with a new cast. I should know. Because I’m old enough to have witnessed this transition. Once Eddie Murphy had officially became the draw and fan favorite the writers went out of their way to put him in as many skits as possible. That’s how much of an asset he was to the show at the time.
It’s so interesting to compare this to when he first did these skits. His tone when taking to us “boys and girls” is much more like the one used by Mr Rogers. As someone born in Pittsburgh, whose mother met Mr Rogers for work, this delights both my adult self and my child within.
my great grandfather passed away two years ago, he used to write to snl and ask for this. it breaks my heart, but at least it's still here. better late than never! :)
You're right. Better to let the ghettos remain festering shitholes of poverty, gang and drug-related crime and prostitution. Would you find that more to your liking? The kicker is that if nothing was done and your neighborhood wasn't gentrified, you'd be saying the white man doesn't care about you and your neighborhood enough to do anything to fix it up. Fucking pathetic
@Cats in Cars well, if it is so evil and corrupt and racist you can, of course, feel completely free to fuck right off. Just wondering where you think you'd want to go, and why.
What's bad is that these days you aren't even allowed to make fun of yourself, much less anyone else. I mean, Eddie Murphy and Jeff Foxworthy both make a living making fun of their own community. And it's funny, not because it's literally true, but because it's a bit too true. They can make their audience see where the problems are that shouldn't be true, but yet you have to admit strike too close to home.
I want Eddie to host more often, and Dave Chappelle as well. Oh yeah, speaking of which, I can't wait for the sequel to Chappelle's SNL election sketch.

I’m so glad that Eddie Murphy is now hosting SNL. He is a freaking comedy legend. One of the true G.O.A.T’s of comedy can’t wait to see Coming 2 America.
D Legend I think of him more as a panther than a goat
BaySideTV Really? I thought he was the new host? I must’ve gotten my info mixed. Well that sucks. Still nice to see him back for a little while. This is the most I’ve laughed at an SNL skit in a long time
Hate to bust your bubble, but this was a guest appearance. But I think NBC should coax him him to return as a regular host on SNL, even if they have to pay him $70 million. Throughout his extensive career, SNL remains his best work.
He's great
Eddie i great when it comes to doing TV skits on SNL, bu the truth is that his movies are lousy, especially in recent years. I think Coming to America 2 will just another disappointment.
mr.Rodgers said when he saw Eddie in person after the sketches, that eddie ran up to him and gave him a big hug and said, "it's the real mr.Rodgers'🤣❤❤❤
This is a parody that clearly comes from a place of love. It understands why Mr. Rogers works as a show and knows what parts to change.

tony v the elevator works and the stairs they don’t stank. The white people came and changed everything but i am still your neighbor.
It's nice that Mr. Robinson's neighbor closed his door for him @0:12.
This is so dense in satire and metaphors and commentary.. this is like what comedy is intended to be. Abrasive, reflective and self deprecating.
That was ESPECIALLY the case when Fred Rogers (RIP) was still a dominating presence among youth.
I’m surprised they can still do this kind of comedy
@@7eyesopenwide168
😂 You have got to be pretty damned triggered to come on a COMEDY channel to write a freakin ESSAY 😂

Was worried that the old characters wouldn't hold up after all this time, but Eddie's natural comedic talents pulled it off.
It's funny because it hit the nail on the head.
I never doubted it. Can you say 'classic comedy', boys and girls? It's timeless.
He didn’t write this shit, only delivered it.
Almost 4 years later and I really wanna see Eddie Murphy return to Mr. Robinson
Who wants to bet that Patrick is the same baby he sold on the black market all those years ago?
Oh my god I almost forgot about that episode 😆
Mr. Robinson did mention that 23 people used 23andMe what claims that he is their father and have shown up on his doorstep. Perhaps he was sexually active since the last time we saw him.
It's today's new word:
"Bastard"
Can you use this word in a sentence? Cab drivers can.
Pretty sure "Patrick" is Donald Glover, which makes the Atlanta joke even better.
@@greydayrecords1409 Patrick is performed offscreen by Chris Redd.
Eddie Murphy was a huge reason SNL was funny. If you grew up in the 70s and 80s you understand.
Facts
MrNckissfan Of course the Golden Age was funny. Murphy's addition kept it strong.
Murphy; Bill Murray; Laraine Newman; Gilda Radner; Chevy Chase; John Belushi; Hundred More for sure.
This whole show was just pure enjoyment and starting off with Mr Robinson's Neighborhood was bad ass.
It’s so interesting to compare this to when he first did these skits. His tone when taking to us “boys and girls” is much more like the one used by Mr Rogers. As someone born in Pittsburgh, whose mother met Mr Rogers for work, this delights both my adult self and my child within.
Too many people died after wishing, hoping, and waiting for this comeback.

Very true. Oakland, SF, San Jose big gentrification places

But it's not hypocritical everyone knows, pitch in more on my culture maybe everyone can laugh like you, but in your comedic way
What's bad is that these days you aren't even allowed to make fun of yourself, much less anyone else.
I mean, Eddie Murphy and Jeff Foxworthy both make a living making fun of their own community. And it's funny, not because it's literally true, but because it's a bit too true. They can make their audience see where the problems are that shouldn't be true, but yet you have to admit strike too close to home.
