  • Just wanted to ramble about a few topics. Hoping to help people with art block and some general productivity issues by offering some of my dumb perspectives. It gets a bit messy in parts.
    Okay, for realzies this time, I'll get back to do proper art education videos.... well, after one more not-quite-art video.

    I'm 24/7 feeling pressed by the tiny amount of time I have to enjoy life and learn the stuff I want to learn, get better, be productive and etc. It just feels like I can't fit it all in a lifetime, just sharing

    • @IuriSigma

      Maybe that's because you're trying to "decide" your productivity. Maybe you just have to let your control go, trying to do what you can in a day and be patient, because the result isn't controllable, you have to let it show. After those results, you can think of a way on how to improve and the cycle repeats. But above those, you have to accept your current situation, if you have little time and little motivation, maybe you have to accept that you can't do everything you want in life, so you can focus on just a few things that are the most important for you, that way it's an easier and more realistic way to accomplish what is meaningful to you, I think that makes sense at least.

      @@ranguy1379 Cool that you think so man! I took that approach myself and I'm having a good time just doing what needs to be done in my routine and enjoying my time learning the things I wanna learn, step by step, collecting results as time passes by. So I do think it helps if you just live your current day the best you can, with time the results tend to pile up!

      I spend too long searching for reference. A question about some detail easily turns into a 3 hour investigation into some topic that only relates to my original question by the barest of threads.

      @CydoniaOS 6 років тому

      Anguel Roumenov Bogoev A good place for references would be those eyewitness or science books. They have all sorts of pictures in them. As you read about them you start to gain the ability to draw them from memory. Also, sometimes it helps to sit down a while to learn your subject. You'll save time learning about it than going back and forth to have glimpses of it.

    I wasted 5 years of my life (and probably made the 5 before that more difficult than they needed to be) by getting discouraged and stressed with my art. I gave it up half a dozen times but like a crack head kept coming back. I never finished a piece because as soon as I got over the initial excitement I would see fault after fault and just get disheartened and give up, or worse say I will work on it when I have enough time which never came.
    The last few months I had a project I wanted to do, my first ever illustration of a sort and I did the same thing, started, then gave up. I realised after 4 months away from it that those 4 hour blocks would never turn up and that had I done 15 minutes a day it would have been done long ago. So that's what I did. I spent 15 minutes minimum per day on my work and after about 3 weeks I had it done, ridiculous. I even gave up hoping it would be good as I just had to push through. Now I am picking up paining too and I learned so much from that experience. I could kick myself at the opportunities lost but it is fun getting back into art again.

    I was watching a video by proko which probably demonstrates exactly how to ‘squint your third eye’ and it’s on automatic drawing where you just sorta clear your mind and let your arm do the work. I find it’s also a good way to see how far you’ve gotten in drawing since you’re utilising all of your visual library and such without the pressure of a clear goal. Basically just fancy doodling lmao.

    I would say that beyond focusing when drawing, you'd need mindfullness: being aware of the global when at the same time focusing on the local. So that you know how this local belongs to the global. This mean also having the movement, the kinesthesic, the emotion, the consistance of the mater, volumes, depths, weight, all sorts of matter running in the back of your mind while working on the current tiny fractoin of the whole. As it is too difficult to embrace it all with the rational part, you have to put yourself into an intuitive understanding / representation of all what these mean/feel to you at the same time. Feeling it with your emotion or in the body itself or having a mental representation of how the whole should feel. This allow to focus on one part of the drawing while still maintaining an overall intuitive understanding of what you're aiming to represent. This is difficult, but when in this state, your putting out coherent drawings.

    I'm totally that guy, so I'd like to point out that proprioception(awareness of ones body parts and their relative position) is often accepted as a major sense. So 3rd eye would have to be 7th. Or maybe 8th if you count thermoception. The edges of the topic gets a little fuzzy, but those two and nociception(pain) are difficult to fold into one of the others.
    Great video as always, though.
