Be sure to check out the link in the description to my online Abstract Design Theory class coming up later this year. These classes don't detract from the free youtube content, but they do offer a fun chance to do a bunch of exercises and more targeted stuff with a group of other people. It's a good time.

@@GreenMagicMachine Nah, the community aspect is the reason these are valuable in my opinion. No worries if people miss them though, I plan to keep doing various classes every year as long as people are interested.

Great breakdown on Composition! Am definitely interested in your ideas on balancing all of the principals of design.
If value is 90/10, how does that play into texture balance rhythm etc. If value is 1/3, 1/3, 1/3... how does that play into texture balance rhythm etc. (ignoring color for simplicity)
How does one go about Harmonizing all the elements of design with each other? A single line almost begins the unfolding of the relationships. Its like a chess game. It can unfold an infinite number of ways, but the first few moves, really dictate how the game will feel. I imagine the first 5 major positional moves in a deliberate painting have the same effect, which suggests there are a lot of cascading requirements as the painting unfolds.

This video was so helpful! Thank You Sinix :) I've tried to study composition in the past, but it was always so confusing. I've always heard to not put a focal point in the middle of the picture and things like that, but I never could understand why. I never saw anyone so straightforward and simply explain really how composition works and why it's needed until this video. Thank You for all your videos, I just recently discovered them, and have over the past month become so much more confident in my art because of your channel :)

I've always known composition exists, and I've always tried to understand it. knowing the rule of thirds exists was about the furthest I could get, though. But this video?
This video just explained composition perfectly to me. Like, everything made sense on a level I never even knew it could! I expected to just be aware of how composition works and to have to actively plan it out before I start working. I'm autistic, so that kind of thing is nothing new. It's rare I get to subconsciously understand something like that. Except, after watching this video I feel like I can imagine ideas in my head, with the composition already put into place??
It's insane, and it's not the first time you've done this. There's something about the way you explain things in your videos that just connects with my brain in a way few other artists can manage. I want you to know I've shared this video to every single art-related server I'm in because everyone needs to see this

5:40 to answer your curiosity there is a theory that humans had a period of time when they lived similar to walruses - chilling on the beach and hunting fish with spears
This explains our lack of fur and sweating (elephants and hippos have it similar because they stay in the water long not afraid of crocodiles), down facing noses to better dive and much more
We only managed to stray from the beaches because the dog companions that were our ears and noses as humans focused on eye development so much cause you don't need to hear underwater and only smell required is to know if the food is too rotten to eat.
