Insult Swordfighting was an amazing idea right from the start of the franchise. They knew they needed swordfights because it's a pirate story, but nobody likes action sequences in adventure games, so they made them puzzles and also got to write some of the funniest lines in a series of very funny games.
The insults were written by author Orson Scott Card who also wrote dialouge for LucasArt's The Dig. Also, another reason for insult swordfighting was inspired by the old Hollywood movies with Errol Flynn where the characters were flinging insults at each other while they sword fight.
Imagine if we were in a timeline where Guybrush's first comeback to "Every enemy I've met I've annihilated!" was "Even BEFORE they smell your breath?" It'd still be wrong, but it would also show Guybrush knew which line to dish out.
First time I heard Haggis I was immediately like....THAT'S SCROOGE MCDUCK. And yep, it was Alan Young, the actor/voice actor who also did Scrooge McDuck for over 30 years, including in DuckTales (woohoo).
6:29 Duuuude!? Easy combat? One hit and its over? Those ship battles are cool - and once you get a hang of it... easy job with every enemy ship even on "difficult" level.
The song was only in the English version of the game cos it was probably too difficult to translate to make it rhyme for Spanish, French, and German lol

The cannon salesman was the late Gary Coleman
Oh my god!
Wait really?! I never noticed all these years!
One of the best things about this Act is the other pirates complain of you use Rottingham's insults.
Similiar to in Secret when the pirates complain for using Carla's insults.
Guybrush's face at 3:01 "Is this my life now???"
So the only treasure you got is a glass of milk, oh wow!
How appropriate, you fight like a cow!
I had to RHYME that one in 😜
Last one was hard! He knows almost everthing, and it's random what few he don't know
So funny how Guybrush's responses to Rottingham after defeating him are also rhyming insults.
I am rubber you are glue

Gary Coleman makes a great arms dealing character.
This is my favorite part of the game.
Gary Coleman. It's always hilarious.
The only thing I would wish is for it to be hours longer.
“I’m surprised your wish wasn’t for you to be stronger”
@@Whiskypapa Now I wish I would have a good reply to that...
@@NemoNautilusEra :)
@@Whiskypapa "I wish I can bed your mom for much longer."
@@NemoNautilusEra A more fitting wish would be to become a rat. ⚔.
thanks for triggering the funny reply ones! cheers!
10:50 wait is that Steve Urkel? I was doing something else and I thought I heard Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog!
Wait, there was no song in the French version of the game!!!
The song was only in the English version of the game cos it was probably too difficult to translate to make it rhyme for Spanish, French, and German lol
Door hinge?
I did NOT APPRECIATE MONKEY ISLAND AS A CHILD
And you don’t appreciate the caps lock button as an adult.
*CHA'ALT*
Ça c'est un accent français.
You fight like a dairy farmer!!
You say that, but I’m not the one milking that insult.
Im have the same name
“Leapgood” is a good name.
Does anyone know how this works?? I keep losing and dont know why
you have to use an insult better than theirs form the ones you learned and they have to rhyme.
