What a video! Can't imagine how much work Lock put into this hour long chunger doing the narration and video/audio editing. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, it was a real treat learning how Lucasarts evolved the Sierra design template and went on to do their own stuff!

There are so few times in my algorithm where I see editors create episodes for the channels they represent. Lock, you did a wonderful job of not only keeping a tone consistent to the channel, but truly be unique enough to not compromise your own POV. Great work 👍

Lock, I never played a single Lucasarts game in my life and probably never will, but I loved this video. You prove yourself a great storyteller again and I'm happy to see a fellow Belgian produce such great content.

this is amazing. never really played a lot of point-and-click adventures but really enjoyed watching this and can see how important these games were to you! Nostalgia regarding the times surrounding the impactful games we played in our youth is a powerful emotion and it's really cool to get a glimpse into a genre that I didn't have much exposure to! Would love more deep dives like this in the future on other developers and genres

Fantastic work Lock. It can be such a challenge to present to an audience anticipating a different creator, but you absolutely crushed this. So much so, that I would love to see more of your work featured on this channel. Your tone/humor was spot on, and your genuine passion was palpable. Well done!

Nice video Lockmort! I really enjoyed the pop music clips from the respective year playing during each transition. I'm a younger millennial so my exposure to lucas arts doesn't begin until the tail end on the N64, but I loved the history lesson/nostalgia trip nonetheless.

Loved maniac mansion and monkey island, but the best part of this video was about your dad, it reminded me of how me and my brother connected with our mom with the legend of Zelda series and it means so much more even now since she passed back in 2013, some people don’t get the connection between games and people and how the game can remind you of someone or a time in your life, you nailed that feeling with this. Great video!

I don’t know what I expected with this video, but it wasn’t this. The script is unhinged and goes hard and I genuinely smiled and laughed the whole way through - and I have never even played a Lucas arts game. I can probably count the number of Star Wars films I’ve seen all the way thru on one hand. I just wanted to watch bc I like the content and what you guys do here. All that is to say: thank you for the hard work and passion that must’ve gone into this. You’re awesome

They don't need to be this intensively in depth, but the two of you digging into things that you're both accustomed to will surely please more people. I'm not into the Sonic, Naruto, and DBZ type of things, so a fresh perspective is appreciated greatly. Love what you guys do

At PAX one year I was on the show floor and who do I see wandering around but Tim Schafer. I was sad when they closed in 2013 but at one point i was angry with them especially when in 2004 they cancelled the Sam & Max sequel cause Star Wars was more a priority and i agree they really were falling to the dark side at one point.

Hopefully they will take a more proactive role in the future and seek out promising devs to revive some of their classic IPs. So far, they have only green-lighted whatever project was brought to them, with varying degrees of success. It shocks me that if it wasn't for Bethesda asking, we would still be without a new Indiana Jones game, 15 years after the last one. The same goes for Monkey Island and Ron Gilbert's studio.

What I'm about to say might be controversial. But Lucasarts built itself up from the ground, ironically, without the very franchises it would be assumed to own: until the late 1980s, Atari still had the exclusive publishing rights to video games based on Indiana Jones, and the same was true for Star Wars until the 1990s. These were deals done before Lucasfilm was in the games business, so they had no real option but to let creativity fly and make new, innovative IPs until those contracts expired. Out of this we got the golden age of Lucasarts. Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle, The Secret of Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Sam & Max Hit The Road. These are the games that made Lucasarts. Once Star Wars and Indiana Jones fell back "in house", Lucasarts made some incredible games out of them too. I'm not saying they weren't great games. But one can almost see the creativity ebb away, as the company became a Star Wars factory. Everything else became secondary, if it existed at all. Later Monkey Island and Sam & Max games got cancelled, while some pretty dubious Star Wars products got green lit for no better reason than they're Star Wars. Those of us who grew up with the original Lucasarts could see the decline in real time. Not having Star Wars and Indiana Jones under their banner arguably forced them to truly shine. One can't help but feel something got lost along the way.

Sadly it was pretty much the same with Sierra Inc. Sierra made incredible games for most of their life from the iconic King's Quest series to Leisure Suit Larry and Space Quest series. The golden era for these type of games seemed to be for myself during the mid 80's to the end of the 90's. At the time you also had a slew of other smaller companies that made some pretty decent PC games like The 7th Guest, Myst,Tex Murphy and others. Sadly nowadays no company wants to take a chance on a new innovative game idea and just sticks to either online first person shooters or just continue to pump out the usual titles they feel safe with like the Fifa games or Assassin Creed and the like.

"Of a genre that doesn't really exist anymore"
Well, not in the mainstream, it doesn't. But you see, that is the beauty of the modern world, "mainstream" is not that much of a thing anymore, at least it's much smaller (proportionally) than it used to be, so we have room for a lot of underground things to flourish.
Back in the day, everyone liked the same thing, nowadays it's kinda hard to even find people with your taste anymore.
