Sorry for the bad audio and camera shake. Didn't bring any external mics and wasn't really concerned with production values here.
I am a teacher looking for a mic and camera to help with distance learning. What do you use for the camera and mic?
If you're just doing things over the computer a simple HD logitec webcam would be good enough IMO. Most people won't be able to stream 1080p+ consistently.

Hey Dad it's me, your long lost son! Having watched this video I've decided it's time to come back home and train with you.
Do your damn chores this time.
Yeah we got basement Brandon back. Garage Brandon just wasn’t the same.
He was stepping on Coop's territory
Garage is for 2nd class citizens.
Brandon Campbell Diamond I feel attacked
Brandon Campbell Diamond the climate control matters.
“I probably won’t cut out around the bathroom door” I instantly said YEAHHH RIGHTTTT and then the next minute: went ahead and cut it out..::😂
I'm sure I'm going to go back and do them fully soon enough
I just made the transition from a garage to basement gym and I must say it’s 10x better! Looking forward to seeing this space develop
Especially in summer lol
Brandon Campbell Diamond no kidding - I was in AZ so 120 degrees was a common occurrence
Awesome to see the new digs come together after making do in the rental for so long. Basement 2.0 series is going to be epic!
Just glad to get out of that garage lol
hell yea brother I remember you talking about your new house. congrats on the new digs and the new gym setup
Yes! Thank you!
Such an awesome video for us home gymers! love the content brandon! im staying big watching the video, if you get my drift
Ha I didn't say it in this video. Think I was just ready to go home and sleep.
Looks great. Can’t wait to see the final results. Congratulations on the new house too!
Thanks!
Congrats on the new house. I look forward to watching you build out the gym. As for that extra 1/4" hanging out...... I give it 2 weeks.
Went back a day later and fixed it. Hope all is well my man!
I’m back too glad to see u your house coming along
I drifted away for a bit but can’t wait for the final results
Appreciate it!
Basement 2.0 will be amazing, I’m sure. Can’t wait to see the new setup.
Thanks my dude.
I am super excited to see how this basement build develops
Same!
This gym is gonna look insane once it’s done. Can’t wait. I have a home gym now following your videos. I have a low ceiling so I had to make my own rack. Bought an SML 1 and the HR conversion kit and had the uprights on the corners of the base to give myself a rack looking rig
Sounds like a pretty nice set up to me.
Man cave 😬😬 can’t wait to see the final basement. Hope the whole family are doing well ♥️
I'm not dead yet!
Yes I've been waiting for this great stuff
More to come!
Keep the videos coming Brandon!
Thanks Isaac!
Looks awesome! Looking forward to the progress
Thanks Harry and/or Frank
Awesome video. I really enjoyed that. We finished building as well So I can appreciate your final cleaning and all the dust problems. Your walk out is really interesting I’ve never seen that before but I like it.
Bulk heads are pretty common in new england. Used to be houses didn't have access to the basement from the main living area, but these days it's just a convenient way to bring shit in and out of the basement without having to go though the house.
Brooo Im so excited for this.
Have a long way to go to catch up to you!
Heck yeah back to the dungeon !
Feels good man
oh man can't wait to see what's in the boxes
Nothing too fancy, the bigger shipment should be here in a month.
Really enjoyed these vlogs of the gym process!
appreciate it. wasn't going to record but figured why not.
Congratulations Brandon...we just moved I to our new home 3 weeks ago and I have been doing the same with putting in stall mats, putting up my rep pr-5000 rack etc. only things that sucks is all the delays and out of stock equipment so can’t get everything at one time.
Best of luck, look forward to seeing the new space
Might be having something similar to set up down here ;)
Brandon Campbell Diamond ....yeah mine is 22 feet long and 12 feet wide. Made a home made deadlift platform using the video you made and just ordered a genesis jack today.
I’ll try to get some pics for you once I finally get everything in, I just can’t find any plates right now and I have been looking for over 2 months.
Your videos have been vital to setting up my dream garage gym, so thank you.
Wish I still lived in Rhode Island...I would thank you in person.
Brandon thanks for showing us where your future bulking ‘sewage’ will be piped out.
I knew it was worth sticking with this channel over the years 👍🏼
I'm all about efficiency. Can now poop easily between squat sets.
yay new house. More videos on the basement build
Tryin!
Cool to see this process! 😎
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job Brandon. I noticed your basement is around the same size as my garage gym. Moving and Cutting stall mats sucks. I remember moving all of mine in and having to cut around my racks. I know your space is going to be awesome. Can’t wait to see the finished results. Patience ha ha.
Thanks man! Won't have the same custom LA look however!
What’s ad space going for on your walls? I’d be interested.
Send him an email to his business email in the about page of his UA-cam channel
highest bidder!
Brandon’s back in the basement! F*ck yeah 🤘🏼
Garage just didn't feel right.
1. Great space and basement bathroom is clutch!
2. Bless your heart for having the patience to make those cuts around the trim.
I have a felling I'm going to go back and clean them up even more.
@@BasementBrandon dude, i despise cutting up mats. I would have gotten frustrated a quarter way through the precision cuts.
More space = room for The Rhino Belt Squat 😀
I like the way you think. I wish I had more room for big things. But I guess I will have to make due with what I have.
@@bmstylee Same here. I had to settle with the Sorinex J-Squat since The Rhino took one stall mat's worth of space 😔
nah go with wenning belt squat
lol we'll see
Looking forward to seeing the new gym. I'll be putting one together in my new home in the next 8 weeks or so. I have a 10x18 garage space I'm using. wow 6 thumbs down for talking about a basement....You're a star LOL!!!
It's a basement life for me!
Let’s go new gym!!!!!
woo!
@Brandon, so you’re not going to adhere the mats to your floor on any semi permanent way? Just gravity and friction?
They weigh almost 100lbs each, they don't move.
Have you thought about putting 3/4" plywood underneath your stall mats for the entirety of your area? I did that in my 4 x 4 stall mat area in my garage and it works great. In addition to the "extra" protections for the cement, it gave me an easy way to secure the stall mats by drilling them into the wood.
I had a larger platform in my last basement with plywood underneath (8'x12') with mats drilled on top and found it wasn't very beneficial. Ended up switching to just matting and basement floor was fine after 4 years!
I'm right in the middle of renovating my basement. Upgrading the gym and moving rooms around. My flooring for the gym will be laminate with black rubber mats. Going for a throwback look, to how gyms used to be with wood floors, but obviously don't want to pay out hardwood money for a gym. And put up some wood or fake wood on some walls.
Nice!!
Congratulations 🎈 💪 on your New Home 🏡 God Bless you and the Home 🙏
How are you going to clean the Stall mats ?
I have a video up from the previous basement, I mix a solution of cleaner and water then spray lightly and dry mop.
Great channel - I was wondering do you tape or do anything to connect the mats? Thanks
Yep, Gorilla Tape!
Hole saws work great for cutting perfect circles in stall mats! Not necessarily feasible for everyone to go out and buy them, but if you have any friends that are plumbers, electricians, etc, they should have a set you could borrow.
Will keep this in mind for next time!
So is this a completely underground basement? I have kind of the same set up and was trying to figure out what to do for flooring that wouldn't get that basement smell if you set the mats right on the slab.
Yes it is. My mats smell worse than my basement slab (which doesn't smell).
Love your set up. Would you be able to share how you did your walls?
It's just the concrete foundation, so I didn't do anything :)
hey Brandon! quick question. how do you go about leveling a deadlift platform in the easiest way possible. thanks! cant wait tosee the finish product and tour :)
Thin sheets of plywood in a stair formation to match the grade of the floor
Get a few shims and a level!
Bro where did you find stall mats? Every tractor supply and other place near me is completely out!
Tractor Supply in Rhode Island had a bunch
How high is the cieling ?? Good shit Iam building my home gym and deciding to order next my stall mats which company did u use to buy them ?
They're just under 9'! I got all my mats from my local Tractor Supply Store.
That´s my man! First thing first:)
Haha you know it.
I'm planning to make a home gym in a spare bedroom. Do I have to take out the carpet there, or could I just put the stall mats straight on top of the carpet?
You might find it a bit offputing to walk on mats on top of carpet, depending on how thick the carpet is.
I tried using a box cutter, but found it way easier with a Cutco Double-D Edge Knife. Worked selling Cutco for a few months so I happened to have these. I’m sure you can get the same results with any sharp knife.
Good to know!
Someone is excited :)
I missed the basement!
Awesome video man! Quick question - my current set up has carpet in the basement and I want to put stall mats in, but I don't want to rip up the carpet for re-sale value on the house in the future (the gym is in the theatre room). Would putting the stall mats directly on the carpet ruin the carpet (and be too flexible) or should I put a base of OSB underneath to protect the carpet?
if it were me I would prob put wood under or some sort of plastic covering. if the carpet is plush you may find the wood is better for support.
Not sure if I missed it in the video or not, but did you use 3/4” mats? Also asking for your opinion, I’m going to install a turf for doing push/pull sled in the center. Should I put the turf on top of the mats, or use something other than a mat underneath? Thanks. Your work has inspired me
Yes 3/4" mats! Not sure about the Turf TBH. I think most people do not put them on top of mats.
Curious about the ceiling height... do you overhead press and if so do you have enough clearance?
it's just under 9' tall so I could do OHP being 6'3" without issue.
I know this is your 2.0 gym video....but I’m more impressed with your central air system. You guys aren’t messing around👍
Also buy yourself an osculating saw. Great compact tool for quick cuts, especially easy to under cut trim and door casing when installing flooring.
A few mentioned that, might be worth looking into.
Good luck with your build! Hope you it fits your needs. Wish I had the idea of a garage gym properly down before we built our house, definetly would have built bigger haha.
Haha yeah learned my lessons in previous spots but I'm sure there will still be things I forgot!
@@BasementBrandon I'm now planning to build a shed so I can get more gym equipment in my garage.... Wish I had planned out better haha. Still need room for 2 cars.
Can you please let me know where you purchased these gym mats from? Do you have any recommendations?
These ones were purchased at Tractor Supply Store
Nice!! Feel like this has been 3 years in the making
Hah you and me both
I remember when you moved into that awful dark garage when you started the house build and now the house is finished. Time flies!
I've tried to forget.
If you take the small square cutouts you can cut quarter circles from them to fill in the gaps around the pipes
It's just hard to do anything other than a straight cut with the knife, maybe triangles?
If you take a tube or jar (with the same diameter of the support you cut around) and place that in the center of the square cutouts, you should be able to cut out a circle using the box cutters. This will leave you with edges which should fit into your floor.
Forgive me if it's been asked before. Are those stall mats from TSC? If so are they the thick ones for like $40/ea? thanks and great videos.
Yep! I go over these more in depth in my flooring video from 2 months or so back
Good tip about the humidity and oxidation. What sweeping compound is that?
I just searched for sweeping compound on home depots site and this is what they had.
if those squares around the poles get to you.... you could always fill in with some black silicone and it will fill in nicely! Looking good so far
Thanks for the tip!
You should check out the small clips that Alan Thrall uses to secure his stall mats to each other. Keeps them from separating.
I prefer taping to using mending plates, I like to seal the gaps in the mats to keep out debris and moisture.
Lucky dude! Very jealous, Congrats!
I'd added this to your RM-3 update a few days ago but don't think you saw it. Was just wondering why you didn't go with the RM-3 Fortis (besides color)? I was thinking of waiting for it. Is there a big difference that I'm missing about total cost/versatility?
I think I ended up answering this yesterday, but I didn't want welded panels, might not fit easily down the basement stairs.
Consider putting down a layer of plastic between the concrete and your matts. They make plastic for this purpose, to control dust (concrete will always make dust). I did this in my basement gym and really glad I did.
Thanks for the tip, hoping to hold off as my last basement didn't seem to have any issues and all the mats are already down. Fingers crossed.
Hi Brandon, thanks for the videos. Does the rubber smell ever go away?
I haven't found it's too bad for me, I think part of it is it will dissipate, but also some people are just more sensitive.
Congratulations
Thanks man
Can't wait to see the new space, dude!
Adam, I speak for everyone when I say this: get off your ass and start making videos again. Like a drug dealer getting us a taste by putting out a few HQ videos and never uploading again. Your UA-cam subscribers deserve just as much attention as your instagram junkies.
You and me both dude!
Is the plastic sheet you had on your first home gym setup a vapor barrier stapled to the ceiling? How is it? Thinking of doing the same for my basement as it's entirely unfinished.
It wasn't specifically for that, just a plastic sheet to help from any insulation falling on me. I'm assuming an actual product made for it would work even better (I had no complaints)
@@BasementBrandon thanks!
Congratulations on the lifestyle upgrade
Nice to be back in a house we own instead of renting!
Nice dude!
Thanks!
Any concern with the rubber smell? I was considering something similar but my basement has no ventilation.
Never bothered me personally
Wait did u move the poles and Insert the cut out mat or what. It’s so precise
I cut a lead into it to go around the pole, then filled it back in.
I just got a few horse stall mats for my home gym. Did you let those off gas for a while before moving them into the basement? The ones that I got have a very strong smell that I'm afraid will bother my parents.
They sat in my garage for a few days, and then have been in my basement for a few weeks now. the smell on mine isn't bad but it doesn't bother me either.
basement barbell 2.0!
Hey now!
Have you thought about using mending plates under the stall mats to keep them from separating. Alan Thrall has a video about it. Works great.
I haven't had an issue with mats slipping, I also like to tape the seams so that debris and water can't get between the mats.
Basil Hayden’s is the best medicine!
come to pappy!
Good for you, bro. 👍 Are you changing out your rack and equipment for your dream gym build?
Prob a little mix of both for the short term. Going to test some stuff out.
Congrats on the house! Lucky kids taking a nap. I wish I could take a nap.
Really, I just wish my kid would take a nap! And I would take a nap with him lol
Haha it's been rare these days, they've been staying up through their naps and being terrors.
@@BasementBrandon hahahaha sounds like my house! But I only have one (and he's enough lol). I've got another one on his way *cries internally thinking about how little sleep I'll be getting come November*
Hey Brandon, I just put stall mats in basement gym but they still have a strong rubber smell. Any tips other then keeping the windows open.
Thanks 🙏
A lot of people like to use Simple Green on them
I love the smell horse stall mats by the morning.
Multi-tool with small blade=much cleaner cut on stall mats. Also, a hole bit on a drill can take care of circles pretty easily.
Don't have any of those :(
Are you putting up a ceiling in the basement?
It looks like a really nice space!
down the road I'll prob look to finish the space completely, but nothing in the short term.
When you were talking about the trim making the mat stick out, I said out loud, "just tear the trim off, B." My wife looked sideways at me and gave me the stink eye. 😅
DON'T QUESTION ME WHEN I'M WATCHING MY TUBES WOMAN.
As someone who has played with a lot of racks, do you think creating a 12x12 space (2 layers of plywood covered in stall mats) would be big enough for a RM-6 w/ a little extra room for deadlift & dumbbell work? Or do you think one needs more surface area than that?
More than enough, my original platform I built was 8x12.
How did you cut around the poles? I know you used a box cutter but what was the process? How'd it you cut out the exact right part?
Basically cut a rectangle out where the pole would go. So measured exactly where on the mat it would be and cut out a big chunk. Then once cut and mat was placed, I just cut off a piece of the left over rectangle and filled in the rest of the gap.
@@BasementBrandon Thank you! I also just finish my house as a new construction as well and sweeping compound has saved my life! I had no idea about that stuff, makes the dust a non-issue. Thanks for videos like this.
If you're worried about the exposed area after you cut around the post, you can always fill in with a black silicone caulk!
Good idea.
That Kirkland Prosecco is a great deal!
My wife sure thinks so lol
To keep your mats clean over time in a basement, would you just use some simple green once in a while and maybe vacuum? And would you recommend using Gorilla Tape between the mats? I've seen using some metal spikey things to also secure them from below if tape isn't as good.
Hey Ben I have a video from my last basement covering cleaning, usually something like simple green cut with water, spray on floor, dry mop. I also prefer to use gorilla tape on seams so it seals it vs mending plates
Is that a Saniflow toilet in the bathroom. I'm planning on adding a bathroom to may basement gym. I already added a bedroom. I don't want to install a sump pump for the toilet if I don't need to
I don't recall offhand, but there is a pump behind the wall for it.
Let’s open those Rogue boxes 😀
no room right now lol
Brandon....we're new to the home gym game.. Good news is we're in the design phase for a new home so have a blank slate. Any recommendations on sq/ft size? Power Rack RM-3, rower, assault bike, and assortments of KB's, MB's, and DB's. Plan on a platform and squatting inside rack....other olympic lifts outside of rack. Thx in advance....
obviously the more space you have the easier it will be to train (especially with multiple people). But in reality you could get away with a small footprint of like 10x10 or 12x12.
Are those mats flat or do they have bumps on one side
They have raised portions on the bottom to allow for air and prevent mold.
First thing I moved after we closed on our new house was my gym equipment.
Haha great minds think alike.
I was thinking, “ain’t no way perfectionist Brandon is gonna just let that sit for now” and bam, the cut of you saying it was bugging you too much. LOL. What are your thoughts on the off gassing and smell of stall mats? Especially since it’s in an enclosed space. Do you do anything to prep it like leave it out doors or clean it?
Great question, wondering the same thing.
Use Franks Red Hot. I put that $h!t on everything.
I don't find these to be that smelly TBH, maybe mine just don't have the odor or maybe i"m used to it. I have heard of people dousing with simple green and letting them bake in the sun.
@@BasementBrandon I installed the tractor supply horse mats into my basement gym, about 700 sqft of it. My wife made me rip it out a month later because of the smell. she tells me if i put it back in we are getting a divorce. i admit, it does stink and i tried washing it 100 times, setting out in the sun for 2 weeks first and no matter what they always smell. Horse matts belong in a horse barn, not in your house. biggest mistake and advice i see people giving in building there gyms. outside garage it works better where i have mine now but it gets a lot more air but 2 years later they still stink. If you thought carrying those 100lb mats sucked down the stairs, just wait until you have to haul them up yourself.
@@hullihenfamily829 I had mine in my last basement for 5 years without issue or complaints from my wife.
Where did you get the mats from?
These came from Tractor Supply
You live in the east coast? Do all the homes ther3 have basements?
Yes, north east, most do.
#timelapsebrandon
so fancy
with the squares removed (around the poles) you can cut an X with the diameter of the pole for a tighter fit
appreciate the suggestion
Are you going to add a ceiling or a ceiling cover to the basement? What does your ideal man cave include? darts board? pool table? pc gaming?
I'll prob do some sort of barrier shield in the short term!
Pro tip: Go to Home Depot or similar and get yourself some mending plates used for joining/connecting wood in framing/roofing applications. Lift up the mats where the four corners meet and place one of these (flat side down) under the corner so all four corners will lay on it once you lay them back down. Use a hammer to pound the horse mats back into place and do each corner where two or four mats meet. This will keep them locked into place because you'd be surprised how much they'll move on you (especially the perimeter rows) even though they weight like 100lbs.
I actually prefer gorilla tape. Holds them well and covers the seams so debris/moisture doesn't seep through.
@@BasementBrandon The problem with gorilla tape is that it won't stay permanently. You'll end up with edges starting to lift which will trap even more dirt and debris. It looks really good when you first do it but it doesn't take very long before you're ripping it off and left with a bunch of gross sticky goo to have to try to clean up.
Never had an issue personally, I just had to peel off the ones I put down 18 months ago for the garage and it was a pain in the ass b/c they were on so good.
I wonder if a hole saw (or a Sawzall) would work better to cut the mats.
Maybe I know a few who have broken blades.
