- What's going on guys, today I'm putting in a little second-floor workout area. Unlike concrete garage or basement floors, we need to watch our weight. Normal residential buildings are built to support 30 lbs per square foot. So, a 12x12 room is theoretically good for 4,320 lbs.

I've installed a power cage in my second floor apartment (building from 2009) and the first thing all people ask is: will the floor support so much weight? I don't think people realize how much these things weigh: a bed supporting a fat couple fucking, a bathtub full of water, a closet full of clothes, a wall-to-wall library full of books, a Christmas dinner with your overweight extended family. All things considered, a person squatting isn't that much weight actually.
Totally agree...and appreciate the imagery, lol
Having this argument with my family currently. 2 of them sleep in a bed with a much smaller footprint on the floor than a power rack (with metal beams that run flat across the floor vs the pointed feet of their bed). I never drop weights and I’ve reasoned that if I’m ever actually able to lift 1500 lbs, I’d be the strongest man in the world, and at 38, with a very slim build, really that ain’t happening 😂
Thank you for this video, you are the only one that I could find that could give me the right idea for installing gym flooring over high pile carpet in a clean and neat way. While I don't need it on the 2nd floor, this solution you provided is about as professional as I've seen it so far and looks fantastic. I just wish I had a wood workshop like you do :(
Crossfit Canine, looking good! And dope upstairs gym.
Aaron, outstanding video. Thank you for giving me a better idea of what to do with my 2nd floor gym. Two thumbs up bro.
Just don't drop the bar after you clean it, lol
Could you please explain the pre drilling and tacking down process a little?
Has there been any issues with mold? I would like to do this, but I’m worried about mold forming between the plywood and the carpet.
I was thinking of adding a de-humidifier in the room as well for added protection.
I'm trying to do the same but don't have the tools. I am thinking of just having a two 3/4' 4"x8" plywood sheets side by side and 3/4' horsestall mats on top. Do you thinkk this will provide sufficient support?
You’d get a lot of flex where the two panels meet
About to start this endeavor myself. Did you screw the framing into your flooring, through your carpet? Or is the framing screwed to the parameter of the plywood?
Just the perimeter of the plywood
What wood did you use for the trim? What did you use to “tac down” the 3/8 plywood? Could you also add a link to the tiles you used in the description or even recommend some please.
I was wondering the same thing about attaching the 3/8 plywood
great video thank you can you tell me what you used to bolt the rack to the floor
Didn't bolt it down. It wobbles a little bit.
honestly shutting down gyms is the best thing that could happen in the lockdown /s.
good it happened here as well and I was pretty pissed
Would you mind posting the two types of wood that you used to create your bottom two layers. Also, have u encounterd any problems with stability or anything like that?
It’s just double 3/4 inch OSB with a perimeter of 1x2 prime pine To retain the mats. No issues so far.
@@aaronstestlab Thank you so much. The area looks amazing. Do you think you would encounter any problems putting cardio equipment on there like a treadmill for example
A treadmill may be a bit heavy for a second story when combined with all the weights. However, I recently put a peloton bike in that area and it works great
Doing the same. Don’t forget to count the plywood and the rubber Matts into account for weight. My 8x8 platform will weigh about 400 lbs.
Agreed
How did you get the tiles to fit perfectly with the trim around the plywood?
cut the last row of tiles
Aaron, have you had any issues with noise? Have your neighbors below you complained?
No neighbors below but not much noise either way
Can you please give a rough estimate how much the platform took to make?
$500
How tall are these ceilings?
8'
0:15 subscribed 😂
Yes, same here. lord "Jay Inslee" and his tyranny at best. Thanks for the video! We are trying to do the same thing. On the 2nd floor.
Did you get the plywood from Lowe’s?
your didnt tack directly into the carpet right ? just tacked the pieces of wood together, I will probably replicate this on a 1st floor gym
Correct
Wonder how he does deadlifts
Try to keep it light with higher reps. And I don’t drop the weights
romanian deadlifts are the way to go
on top of the carpet? no. this is a terrible idea.
You should make a video demonstrating why
You should thank your governor. Or leave out politics altogether.
Agreed!
@@aaronstestlab uhhhh that was nasty.
no, it was honest.
The “science changed”. You sound dumb now.
