Nicely done intro video for pads. Would like to see an in-depth analysis and review of track pads, not just the Hawk etc that you talk about here, but Paragon, Winmax, Project Mu, Carbotech, Endless, etc.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to create this video and share your wealth of knowledge!!! I just bought a 2017 RED 10th generation Type R with only 7,400 miles on it!!!! However, I came across your video because I purchased my vehicle with the original Brembo pads on it. Im assuming with 7,000 + original miles along with the original OEM factory pads….new ones will be needed in the near future?!! I’m just not sure how soon the original factory sold Brembo pads will last. I guess only time will tell!!!
I just put brembo brakes on my st. Came from a focus rs (which came stock on rs). They literally look the same as what is on the type r down to every bolt and pin. Guessing they are same. Rs they where only available in blue and my car is red so I painted them. These come in red and if they are the same that would’ve saved me some time.
Would there be an issue using different front and rear pads? I was going to go with the Hawk Street up front and Hawk Ceramic in the back but don't know if that would cause any problems. No tracking as of now. Just spirited street driving
I changed my rear pads and now my cars computer is constantly tripping warnings about the electronic ebrake….I followed the Honda procedure for replacing pads without using a computer but it just won’t fix it. The dealer insists the Hawk rear pads are too think….? Which seems like nonsense to me. I just don’t know what to do aside from surrendering it over to the dealer, along with my wallet.
Solid rotors, no slots, not drilled, these are the most cost effective, and best rotors for any track car. Two piece rotors, again with solid surface, are the absolute best, as it isolates some of the heat away from the hub. Hope this helps!
Hey is it okay to swap pads only between street pads and track pads but stay on the same rotor? Thinking of going paragon rotors with akebono for street and a set of track pads for track use. And run better brake fluid
Yea, as long as they are bedded in they will stop, they we’ll just make an almost infinite amount of dust that will ruin your wheels if you don’t clean them often
@@FlyinGato last question: can I get away with slapping the race pads on the stock rotors that have already had street use, or will the previous stock pad material hinder them?
Hi There, Thank you for making this video. I have been researching for brake pads for the rear and found this video really helpful. I am probably gonna go for the HAWK High Performance Street 5.0 brake pads you recommended in the video however I was wondering what's your opinion on the Project Mu brake pads? I don't mind the dust and noise but would like the brake pad to be heat resistive. I don't drive it hard very often but every now and then I do have a little fun around the hill and therefore would like a pair of good quality pads for the car. Thank you :)
What brake pads do you recommend for my type r I use it for daily drive but some times I race I live in New York so summer can be really hoy and winter can be really cold I don’t want them to make a lot of noise I don’t care
Hey Elias what do you think about project Mu PS F906/R385 (Front&Rear)? Its time for a breakpad change and not sure what to go with. I'm watching the vid now. I mostly street and spirited driving. I also drive NY->Poconos a a dozen weekends a year.
oh, hey, I live in the poconos! the Project Mus are good pads for sure, but if you're street driving/spirited and don't mind the dust the Project Mus create, you should look at the stoptech sport pads, similar performance, less price. I have them listed in the description.
@@FlyinGato thanks for the quick reply, yeah we head to scotrun right by camelback. Heading there this weekend infact. Are the stoptech sports for the front only? Thats what I'm seeing on Tirerack. Btw, great work on the vids I'm glad you were able to fix the R and keep it alive. 🤙
@@FlyinGato I've never tried any other than the Ford oem for my front brembos. They haven't failed me yet on the track and still giving me confidence each lap. I hear and see a lot of hype around hawk and gloc and have yet to try them as a dedicated track pad for myself. Any experience comparing pads to winmax? Any thoughts or insight for brake pad ratings?
I just had the same issue on my right rear as well. Honda said they need to be replaced, but that the oem rotors can not be resurfaced and those too will need to be replaced. However nothing is wrong with the rotors.
I am a Michigan resident and use my Honda civic for daily drives and mostly on highways. Do you recommend ceramic brake pads? Will they work well in cold weather conditions?
How do you define better? As he says, it depends upon your use case (daily, street performance, autocross, track) and what's important to you (cost, noise, dust, etc).
Stock is the Ferodo 4495 in the front. It has a DOT friction code of FF which means it falls in the band mu ~ 0.35-0.45. They are probably similar to the aftermarket Ferodo DS Performance pads, so one step below the Ferodo DS2500.
@@TC-rx3hv Oh ok, lol. That's really normal for semi-metallic sports brake pads though. FlyingGato mentioned a bunch of ceramic brake pads that will fix that, but Honda (or Brembo) put them on the car because they allow it to handle track duty out of the box (we'll leave the cooling issues aside!). Remember when Nismo took the normal Ferodo Brembo brake pads out of the 370Z Nismo and put comfort ceramics in from the factory instead? Car and Driver lost the brakes and crashed the car on their "Lightning Lap" challenge. 😬 There are sports ceramic brake pads you can get though too, they'll probably be a bit wooden when cold compared to semi-metallics though which I guess is why they go for semi-metallics as stock so that they also work well cold on a street car (while having the heat resistance as well).
@@TassieLorenzo wow I did not know that but I can see now why they used these out of the box. I don’t track mine really so I may go with Hawks so I don’t have to clean my wheels like twice a week LOL
Endless mx72. You’ll be surprised how amazing that pad is.
You are right. And Endless brake fluid too !
How did I miss this video. Will watch any type r videos you make. There is like nobody making type r videos on UA-cam

For street performance ( no circuit, no tracks ), Pagid Street Plus brake pads is a good choice.

Your pads, unless they were used on the track, are just fine, take the wheel off and see how much pad is left on it, if it isn’t much change them
Awesome Thanks again Gato for more information I know now what pads I'm going to be getting when the time comes for new ones!👍
Happy to help! Next up, I'll be talking about suspension!
Very nicely handled Sir.

Yea definitely, just bed in the pads after every change
@@FlyinGato thanks for the insight going to have to look into how to properly bed pads! Appreciate the videos hope you’re enjoying that c6 ;)

Any thoughts on g-loc or fedoro brake pads for swapping at the track? Esp since changing the front brembo pads are easy and quick.
those are both good, but I think I chose some good track pads, for HARD track days, the Hawks are hard to beat

If you need new pads , would the R start making like a scratching on the rotor type noise ? Like a squeaky noise too without accelerating or braking ?
Yea,.but that also could be a little rock stuck on the rotor
I have this same problem right now I am unsure what the noise could be but it is coming from the right rear tire on my R.

You don't unless your rotors are worn out

Have you taken the type r badge off mate? (From the front grill) how come?
