Dang Mike I'm blown away by your thorough presentation on this. This is gold standard reference grade content right hear. Not only am I a bit jelly but I'm impressed with your knowledge and delivery. Cool Axe! Hope all is well my friend, :)
Very well informed video, I had been searching for the answer on why some 90's Les Paul Classics had "Model" on the headstock while others say "Classic". Now I have my answer. Thanks for sharing, I'll be watching more of your videos for sure.
I also have one of those very rare early ‘93 Les Paul Model in Honey burst premium plus top. When I called Gibson they also told me that Tom Murphy sprayed my top. It is a very special guitar and it stands out from all the Les Paul Classics of the era.
Thanks for helping me geek out more on my '93 LPC Plus that I so enjoy. I swapped the pickups for ' 57 Classics, which I prefer, even though the stock magnetic ones are great too. The neck on mine is .748" at the first fret!
I had a 1994 classic plus in a dark honey burst that I sold a few years ago that I regret letting go of. It was beautiful and well-made I was stupid. Now I'm using Tokai Love Rocks.
I have a '91 Gibson Les Paul Classic which is a true example of guitar masterpieces. My 1997 Gibson Les Paul standard is also a fantastic guitar in terms of quality and playability so I'm not sure where you got the information of '88 to '96 were the best years?
I have a 1995 classic custom shop. It's like a custom shop classic premium plus but with Zebra 57's. All the other specs match yours. Mine says custom shop on back of headstock...not a sticker. One of the most beautiful tops ever. Honey blister burl looking appetite looking pick guard in the case. Thank for your video. It was very insightful.
It wasn't that much of a faithfull recreation of a 1960 considering it had weight relief and 496r and 500t hot ceramic pickups which are hardly vintage it was meant to be a custom shop guitar but it was not. It went straight to regular production .
That was not the first custom shop guitar . Gibksn started doing R9 reissues in 1982 . They were called heritage les Paul's. They also reissued Korina Vs and explorers under the heritage line. R9s from the 80s are called prehistorics The so called good period started in 82 not 88. 1983 to 1987 prehistoric R9s are some of the best gibson ever made and they acutely sound like vintage guitars. You want Jimmy page tone ? Get an R9 from 83 to 87 with the Tim Shaw PAfs . They nail page tone. Even Trogly with his awful playing can make those guitars sound like Jimmy page . I have seen many say that the closest they ever got to page tone was with early to mid 80s pre historic R9s Gibson started they quest to recreate those old guitars long before 1990 . The classic is not that accurate with its weight relief 300k pots and hot ceramic pickups.

What a gorgeous geetar; do you still have it Mike?
Sweet Guitar!
Thank you sir! Good to hear from you!
How'd you know Tom Murphy painted that one in particular?
I am wondering the same thing. Looking into purchasing one
It will have Tom Murphy written inside pickup cavity
I have a 93 classic goldtop with the headstock saying classic instead of model and has thick binding in the cutaway
what day in 96 do u think it ended? please please cuz I bought a 96 premium plus recently.
Best LP's ever 1958 thru 1960 then 1968 then 1983 an 1984 just the facts .

i am near to feel jealousy ... :)
