- Many years after the battle of Mustafar left him scarred and broken. Anakin Skywalker visits the resting place of his wife, Padme Amidala.
Directors Notes:
This short was created for the Star Wars short film competition, run by Cinematic Captures, for the Animated Film category.
I'm very proud of the work that went into this from everyone on the team, especially considering the quick turnaround time (approx 2 months) to create this outsie of other daily commitments. There's a few things i'd love to fix like the helmet not being quite right plus some additional work on the head models for Anakin. But all things considered it came far better than I hoped. I hope you enjoy this short.

I love the absolute horror on the rebel's face when he hears the breathing. It's like he realizes he's already dead.

I know how that rebel felt in a weird way. Way back when the first original Battlefront came out I was playing a rebel assault trooper running head first into the enemy group being lead by Vader. Back then you couldn't play as heroes and heroes were nearly impossible to kill, had to blow them off the side of cliff or crush them with a walker or land on them with a ship. Vader didn't have the saber on and I ran up and unloaded 50 rounds into him. Vader just stood there and took it before turning on that saber and hearing that rebreather sound as if signaling I just fucked up and was about to pay for it. Bare in mind I'm at a friend's place playing this on split screen on PS2 so he can see my facial expressions when this happened. What happened after that is a long hilarious story, but when I heard that saber followed by the rebreather my face was spot on what that rebel's face was as I tried to back away, biggest difference I actually managed to get further then him unfortunately.
Nice animation, but the story telling could use some work. It is easy enough to believe that Anakin would visit Padme's grave. Hell, I could even see him deliberately moving it to somewhere else. But the guards? That makes no sense. Even if there are guards posted at the grave they would have seen Vader coming. There is no way in hell they'd have even responded. Even if they had no idea of Vader's true identity, they would have known of Vader's power. This would have been a "we are noping the hell out of this one. I don't know what you saw in the camera, but I spent the last 20 minutes doing paperwork. I ain't seen $%^&."
And if the guards are tracking Vader, no way there would just be three of them.
@@superdave8248 they weren’t guards. They were rebel soldiers. Most likely tracking Vader, deciding to strike when he was in mourning.
@@westarosviper2269 Could it maybe have been rebel troops being asked to investigate a disturbance? Perhaps somebody had reported seeing a mysterious figure in the dark, close by to the grave. From the looks on their faces, it’s like their about to question this strange person in mourning, until suddenly they hear the sound of Vader’s rebreather…

@@finnwhelan8442 Anakin Skywalker and Michael Corleone mirror one another perfectly. Both characters began their young adult lives full of good intentions, determined to right the wrongs of the establishment (In Michael's case, that of his own family) Their descent into darkness came from the fear of losing someone they loved, and in each case, the seduction into evil was gradual but totally destructive of their true selves. Amazing story telling, the likes of which we no longer see.

Moral of the story : Don't ever try to disturb Darth Vader especially within Padme's tomb, you will just enrage a broken man with almost nothing to lose.

I like how when the rebels intrude on Vader, the light creeps away from his face, signifying that Anakin has been pushed back into Vader’s soul.

I like how at the end, the last soldier deduces who Vader is and silently mouths his real name. He is no longer scared, just sorry

Did anyone notice that his chest plate, one of his buttons was illuminating red. But then, the bottom button turned blue right before he walked into Padme's tomb. Subtle, yet so to the point for that brief moment of being "turned" back into the light.
I saw that too. I thought it was to indicate that Anakin was back but in Darth Vader's body. Like a split personality, in a way

It is beyond me how a small team of amateurs can capture Star Wars so much better in only 3 mins, than Disney ever could in 3 sequels. Well done.
Thankfully we had the Vader Hallway scene in rogue one. At least that movie was amazing.

@@MorningNapalm don't mind if I ask but, which story? Honestly for me SW movies are good vs evil. There is nothing in between or beyond. No lore whatsoever. But what I find very interesting is Jedi/Sith lore. Premium.

This is awesome! I like how Vader didn't immediately turn around. It's like he was hoping the rebels would just go away, not because they pose any threat to him of course, but because he just wanted this moment with his wife.

Poor sweet lonely Wolf. First he, his formerly Padawan, his formerly master and his formerly clone friend created the seed of Rebellion while they meets Saw Gerrera on Onderon during the clone Wars. Then Ahsoka and Bail continue to create the Rebellion while Anakin takes care of baby Ezra that he was Born in the empire Day. Anakin was forces to torture the Rebels Just like the executor that was a slave of evil tyrannic. Then Anakin killed Palpatine sacrifices himself for the Rebellion including Ahsoka, Rex, Ezra and Luke
They should have respected his sorrow.After all he is still a man in pain all these years without her....
I feel like if Padme and Shmi Skywalker could see what was going on from the afterlife......They would be heartbroken, horrified and crying at seeing what Anakin had become.....

1:09 the way his cries are choked out into a faint wheezing because of his old burns. It shows Anakin at his most vulnerable.

And the he literally can shed any more tears properly given the fact he was burned and the even sadder piece that he just has no more left to cry having lost her.
I do t think his eyes were even yellow in that moment. Like he temporarily turned back into Anakin
Can we just talk about how much Anakin loved this woman? The amount of heartbreak I feel in this character, I can't fit it into a comment section. An essay or speech yes, but the beauty that is the brokenness of Vader is awe-inspiring.

The emotion in this scene is real!! One of the few moments where Darth Vader lets himself feel again, and as soon as it starts it ends with the arrival of Rebel troops. Once more, he throws himself into his rage and once more, he slaughters in the presence of his beloved, throwing away one of the few remaining pieces of the man she loved.
Vader looks like he wants to cry but he has no more tear ducts
The "please not now" face he makes before putting his mask is heart-breaking...
This time, the slaughter is absolutely justified. Trying to ambush an enemy, while they are visibly grieving over the grave of a loved one is simply utterly wrong.

@@lordinquisitor6651 He wouldn't have let them live. Even even if they didn't enter the mausoleum they would have seen his face and find out he is Anakin. No one who sees Vader's face lives according to canon.

I like how at the last moment, the rebel soldier looks over at Padme's grave and quickly realizes who Darth Vader truly is.
Unfortunately for him, no one can have that information and live to tell the tale.

In my own head cannon I like to think that these rebels saw him without the mask and wondered why someone would be here, then seeing him turn around mask on, he puts the pieces together that this is not only Vader but Anakin too. This is beautiful

@@sultanzod6720 The way I see it, people probably hear stories all the time about Vader doing crazy force things that people don't understand. They probably knew all about Anakin and the Jedi, and if they're like stationed to protect her grave on Naboo, they probably saw Anakin with her a lot too. So when he finally turns around and they think "wait why the hell would Vader be mourning Padme alone" you can almost see it click in his face once the lightning strikes. Like oh we f***** up boys
Also I feel like that adds to why this guy got the force choke suite instead of just shot. Vader's probably like "People who find out about me being Anakin cannot simply be "shot"

The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities..... Some consider it unatural......
I like to think that the storm began because of Vaders anger erupting through the force because the rebels would dare try and fight him on the gravesite of his dead wife.
Don't forget that Vader is literally at the risk of dying in only a few minutes due to how damaged his lungs, he needs his mask to live and he took it off only for padme, he would still risk his life for her, this is how you know anakin never died, he was just forced to hide behind a mask
For a few moments, you can sense Anakin mourning for his lost love, than hatred once again consumes his heart. It’s tragic, yet beautiful
Anakin’s love for his fallen wife/queen was shown without a single word spoken. Absolutely incredible and well done.
Now this is proper story telling. Vader having a single moment to reflect on his actions and consequences, removing the helmet and allowing himself to be Anakin, even for a moment. However once he puts the helmet back on, he embraces the monster he is now, because everything that led to him being the cold and wrathful machine... Were HIS decision.
2:39 As the rebel looks over from Vader, to Padme's grave, I believe the rebel says something along the lines of "...you're alive?" At that moment, his imminent death isn't what scares him anymore, but the foreboding, sudden realization that one of the Galaxy's greatest enemies, Vader, was once its greatest hero, Anakin, the entire time; the Galaxy's "fallen angel".
i don’t think his mouth movements align with a question mark on that phrase. he said “you’re alive…” which to me magnifies what you said tenfold

I noticed a schism of light and dark. Most effective.
I like the moment of annoyance and rage on Vader's face when he senses the rebels. You can tell he just wanted a moment of quiet to mourn but he can't even have that in his life and so he lets his rage out.

Like the Moment without his mask, where his breathing is also human like Anakins

As a child I saw Darth Vader as the undisputed Prince of Darkness, now as an adult I see him as the tragedy of a broken man.

Holy shit.... whenever Vader was holding the soldier, and you see the soldier glancing back towards the coffin. It's almost like he's trying to piece together who this is, trying to understand... though since Anakin and Padme were in secret, I doubt he did. Also, I fucking love how the blocks and movements of the lightsaber were like how they are in the clone wars show. I prefer it that way so much more. 100000/10

Vader is a broken man. We all know this.
With heavy pain in his heart, he feels there's no way out and that he's nothing. Everything he'd done, he regretted and wishe's to take it back.
He exemplifies the suffering of heavy regret and self hate in terms of emotion. During his earlier years, what he could hold on to would be taken away from him, until he learned of his son who to him, was his chance to finally leave behind suffering pain. He finally did what he wanted to do his entire life, and he was finally free.
This animation really showed who really showed who vader was on the inside and showed that pain, showing a man who suffered mentally and physically. Through the emotions we saw for a few seconds, you nailed who the character is
I love the double meaning of the title, how it can apply to both vader, an "angel" of the light side of the force, fallen to the dark side like lucifer, and Padme, an angel in life who has died, or "fallen".
This hit me right in the feels. You truly captured the pain of Anakin.
His love for Padme was used against him by Palpatine and ultimately lead to his downfall.
Bravo!
And because Palpatine manipulated that love without ever truly understanding it, he was unaware of the danger he stepped into, decades later, while he was electrocuting the love child of Padme and Anakin with Vader at his side.

you gotta give the prequels credit with turning Darth Vader from a unstoppable force of pure evil into someone with a tragic past that you can actually sympathize with. Who hasn't gone bad to protect someone they loved?
Return of the Jedi did a decent job of that too, purely from a handful of lines and some exceptional acting. Vader changes from an evil villain to a pitiable victim in that film.

I give clone wars credit for that, not the prequels. In the prequels it was very abrupt and not very well told. The clone wars made it way more believable and made Anakin an actual likeable character
A tragedy caused by Anakin's own fear, anger and pride and his inability to accept possible loss
Personally I feel no sympathy for him, he deserved his fate and the pain he suffers, given what had done and continues to do
ROTJ and the Prequels laid the groundwork for it, but TCW fleshed it out to perfection. The Prequels could've fleshed it out more with better dialogue and concise editing, but that is what happens when George Lucas is in complete creative control compared to the Original Trilogy.
This is awesome because it encapsulates Vader so well
He still love Padme and pays his respects, but he’s so far gone in his anger that he kills people at the site of her grave, something that Padme would hate him for, and Vader knows it
When you see him take off the mask it's like him putting away the monster Vader and letting Anakin out for a little bit and on his face you can see his pain and suffering With him mourning his wife as he hated himself for killing Padme and knowing he is the only one who truly loved her and I can't stress enough about how much I love vader as fic character and how he was man with kindness turned into nothing but a shallow man of his former self. Great video and the animation is perfect

The suffering, the anger, the hate, the regret, the guilt you can feel it with just three minutes, this is what Star wars truly is,
You just know that while Vader might have slaughtered the Rebel Trooper that charged at him at 2:19

"Fallen Angel" could refer to either Anakin, who was once a warrior for The Light Side, and/or to the deceased Padme ("Are you an Angel?").
I like to think it refers to both of them

Rebels definitely deserved that. They interrupted a private and sacred moment, Vader can't even mourn his beloved without drama following him.
So much emotion in so little time! Vader's more aged, sympathetic Sebastian Shaw appearance really helps show how he's suffered so long; all to save the one he loved. Nothing less than beautiful storytelling!
He looks like he's in his late 60s when he'd only be, at most, 43.

3: Rough living of any kind can make you age faster. I've seen 40 year olds that looked like they were 70, and vice versa
Never in my life have I ever seen Darth Vader so angry that he changed the weather. The closest thing was in his own consciousness when attempting to rid himself of his light side in the Vader comics. Though anything can go on there as long as there is imagination
But WHY don't they make more scenes with this vibe in the canon ?! :/

I don’t think we’ve ever seen any form of media depicting Vader showing his anger like that… showing his face as he gets angrier. That’s one nice detail I love about this fan-film
I liked how the rebel commando stopped and then tried to back away slowly like he'd just stumbled across a dangerous animal. That was a nice detail to add
The bass rumble and his expression shifting really captures when Anakin's rage surfaces, for a brief moment he just wanted to grieve and they disturbed the solitary moment
Unfortunate situation. The soldiers protecting the grave location but knew it was all over when they saw who was at the grave. As for Vader, sad yet appreciative for the protection to Padme's resting place but unfortunately couldn't let the soldier's escape since they saw him.
The shot of the lightning revealing they just walked in on Vader is absolutely incredible. Bravo 👏🏻

A man's love for that special woman that he truly loved nothing could completely destroy!! Those first few moments were heartbreaking!!😖
I've seen a lot of fan-made movies, but this one is on a WHOLE different level. Everything is on point from the costumes to the scenery to the cgi!!! I legitimately felt a chill go down my spine and my heart sink when Vader put his mask back on. Even though it's only 3 minutes, this is an absolute masterpiece and a true work of art!
This perfectly pulled off the dracula vibe that vader was originally built from. I love it.

The knit picking nerd in me wanted to complain, but nope this was awesome. I could actually see this happen, from the rebels stumbling upon Vader thinking there was just a random intruder, to Vader’s silent and prolonged slaughter of the men as he stews in his guilt and anger
Truly excellent, especially the beginning when he removes his helmet (although I cannot understand why his head looks so "healed"). You can truly feel the heartbreak, agony and anguish whatever is left of Anakin is feeling. Then, the rebel soldiers come in, and he turns into Darth Vader again.
Despite not being able to breathe he comes to his senses and would rather look upon with his own eyes just like his son than with vaders

I can't make it out. But in a way, we don't have to know. We know there's recognition in the Rebel's face and words. It's a small yet major thing, being able to convey a sentiment without the words.

It happened in Legends as well, but It was him alone paying tributes to Padme and seeing her one last time!

Vader could not return to Naboo out of fear that his emotions would send him into such a panic attack ,his suit regulators wouldn’t be able to control his heart and breathing and he’d die of a heart attack. Plus once he fully embraced the dark side, returning to Tatooine or Naboo would risk reawakening the spirit of Anakin within him. Both are stated in Rise of Darth Vader novel.
If I’m wrong tho and you know of a Legends comic or book that has Vader on Naboo visiting Padme’s grave, please let me know so I can check it out.
Imagine you and star wars theory finishing the Vader series. Bringing all the fictions to life by animating them like this. You guys could run the best fan fiction series on the internet.

In other words, this fan film was perfect. A sad broken man in one part and a Galaxy spanning butcher in the next
when he has his helmet off you can see him very clearly but once he senses the rebels a shadow comes over his face. showing vader taking anakin back over. absolute golden animation.
I love the high angle shot on Padme's coffin. Then the final pan down. As if she's watching this all happen.

The cgi is ON POINT, the fluent nature of the characters and facial expressions are beautiful, the shading and textures are incredible and the simple short story of Vader visiting Padme's grave only to be interrupted is incredible and well executed beautifully in just under 3 minutes
God damn that was powerful. The love he had was stronger than his hate. But that loss of love left nothing but hate, hate that existed for himself and his failure. No reprieve from the pain and the torture he felt psychologically and physically.
This expressed that perfectly.
It’s so sad and heartbreaking that he came to Naboo to see his wife. It fits so well perfectly.
The fact that the moment the rebels came the sky’s turned black with heavy rain just shows the pure power of Vader….

This is better than the half assed content disney shits out. 6 episodes and 2 seasons every episode about an hour long. Not enough for me, there's a whole UNIVERSE in star wars and so many stories to tell...
DAMN- I love this short film bc they was actually something necessary that was depicted from it. It really showed just how far gone Anakin is from who he was with Padme.

I like to imagine this being just after he encounters Luke in Cloud City, visiting Padme's grave to ask for forgiveness for harming their son. Awesome work!

Why on gods green earth doesn’t Lucas Film look for people like this who understand and love Star Wars. Imagine what the current trilogy could have been. This to me is Star Wars and not that garbage they produced. Bravo!

Disney isn't interested in creating stuff like this. Their entire business model is aimed at young children. They will never go down a realistically dark path with any star wars content.

@Ethan Not just corporate. Activism. Look at how many multi hair colored, facial pierced, man bun, hipster glasses wearing SJWs Disney has hired to write stuff on Kennedy's side of the fence. Heck, look at the person they hired to rewrite Knights of the Old Republic, an activist who spits on the fans and assumes every disagreement is because you're afraid of women. For the Acolyte, they hired someone who had never even seen Star Wars. They tell the fans "If you don't like my politics, don't buy my books," or not to see the movies, then when the sales flop, they cry about how they're victims of a bunch of "toxic Nazi bigots."
An incredible masterpiece. Vader and the characters looked so realistic. Unmasked Vader/Anakin at 1:09 looks so realistic and life-like.
Well here is the problem with that. Darth Vader cannot breathe properly without the mask. Only in his chambers can he safely remove it. But yeah even he was one of most feared villains in Star Wars, his love for Padme still made him humane in some way
@@daniellee773 Just like in real life, I don't think he would die instantly by removing his mask. A human being of adult age can probably survive under water for at least 90 seconds. So, I think the scene is fine in that regard. He would have put it back on just as quickly had the rebel guards not intruded upon his visitation.
@@batman979 It has been confirmed that he cannot survive without his mask. After being burnt alive in Mustafar, he had trouble breathing and the mask helps control it. After all he is a cyborg

My point was that he can survive without the mask for a very short period of time just like any regular human being could...why are you responding like there is an argument to be made here? The time period of how long the mask is off....matters...that's all I was saying. He's not going to die instantly by taking it off. That was even shown in ROTJ. It takes a few moments and that's when he is much older, unlike the age of him in this video. So, for me personally, it's not a problem. it does not take away from the integrity of the video or make it seem fake to me. But, that's just my opinion.
@@batman979 vader is not regular human, he is cyborg with respiratory problems. He can go without it for a minute but he would show some suffering of breathing. This video showed him being just fine and not having respiratory problems. He can only take off his mask in his special chamber.
Keep in mind that Vader is already in constant pain and discomfort but for that time that he took his helmet off outside of his meditation chamber he would have been in absolute agony... But he had to see her with his own eyes
