  • Here's week one of Chicago Marathon training. After a few injuries and feeling like I have failed many races recently, I am excited to this fresh start of Marathon training. This is going to be my second Marathon and I have learnt a lot from training for my first (Manchester) Marathon in April this year.
    Follow my journey and see if I succeed in running a PB!

    Hi Yuenny , I had some Goodr sunglasses and the tinted film started to come off. I hadn't used anything other than water snd microfiber cloth to clean them . Returned to supplier and got a refund. My replacement goodr glasses are ok so far. Good luck with the pacing and marathon training.

      How weird. I ordered a pair of sunglasses from Goodr this week and just arrived. Not had a chance to test them out yet but I'm hoping they will last. I'm not sure of the matte finish of the frame, as I feel like it might show scratches a lot. I'll have to see, but quite a good price. A lot of sunglasses are £60-70 a pair with buy one get one free, but a) I only need one pair and b) it's still £60-70 I don't want to spend. Good you got a refund 😊

    Hi Yuenny. A bit off topic, but I'm very impressed you are going to pace some events. I am just terrible at controlling my pace. It depends on soooo many factors. I am in awe of the pacers I have spoken to and their ability to pick a pace and just hold it. Good luck with this

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  Місяць тому

      Thanks 😊 I've never paced before but I've been practicing and I think I'll be okay 🤞🏻 When I run by myself and just for me, I tend to always go a little bit faster, especially nearing the end of a run, but if I have to stick to a slower/more comfortable pace then I can slow down. I've recently been trying out Zone 2 running a bit which has been very interesting. I need to learn to slow down sometimes because I know it'll be beneficial for my training. I can't wait to run my first 10K as a Pacer 👏🏻👏🏻

      Hi Tony, have you tried the Garmin PacePro? I’ve found it quite useful as I’ve been a pacer at the local 5k Parkrun.

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  Місяць тому +1

      @@AckerQ. I've looked into PacePro too but never actually used it. I've added the Average Pace data on my watch, so I can see overall what my pace is as well as Current and Last Lap Pace.

      @AckerQ. Місяць тому

      @@YuennyLam, give PacePro a try. You will know how many seconds you have drifted from the original plan with a glance at the watch, and it also helps if you have some hills where you’ll want to go slower. I wouldn’t want to do math in my head during running: “so last lap was 10 seconds slower, and the one before was 3 faster, and currently I’m going … so I should…”

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  Місяць тому +1

    Good to see you're back and running pain free 😊. I'm using runna to train for Race to the Stones day 2 50km 😅.
    Goal A: Finish under 8 hours
    Goal B: Finish under 10 hours
    Goal C: Make it to the end while having fun 🙂

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  Місяць тому

      Thank you 😊 I couldn't be happier to be running pain-free again! Runna is good and it keeps my training interesting.
      I wanted to do Race to the Stones and I would've picked day 2 as well. I'm not prepared enough to run it and had a lot going on at the start of the year in terms of running, but I'm planning to run it next year. You'll have to tell me all about it 😁 I wouldn't have a clue how long that race would take me to run but C goal sounds appealing.
      How's your training been?

      @@YuennyLam Yep I definitely appreciate the structure and variety of the Runna plan. Training's been going well.
      I had my longest run so far last Sunday (27km). A bit under the weather this week but on the mend 🙂.

      @JonathanMallett Місяць тому

      @@YuennyLam I'm going to be using the Salomon Adv Skin 5 and refilling my bottles at every stop. I'm not planning on using poles. I may come to regret that decision 😅

      @YuennyLam  Місяць тому

      @@JonathanMallett Only 5L? I ran the Snowdon 25K in a 5L and found it was too small. Luckily I didn't need the cold weather kit. But I think the problem was that all the pockets on my vest weren't accessible enough for me while I was running. I think in terms of capacity it was enough, but difficult to get things in and out. I'm looking for a different vest, that's why I'm interested in what you're using. I definitely have my eyes on a Salomon 😊 I would like the ADV Skin 12 but really expensive 😬
      I think if there aren't big climbs then you'll be okay without poles. I haven't looked at the elevation chart for the Stones. I'm really excited for you and can't wait to run it myself 👏🏻

      Six Marathons so far is amazing! I've only run one, my first one in April this year and Chicago will only be my second, so I'm a newbie Marathoner 😊

      @@YuennyLam Chicago is one of the flattest courses I've run with only ~240ft of elevation gain. Last year the weather was perfect: a low of 45 and a high of 50. And because the course loops through the city, crowd support was amazing throughout.

      @@YuennyLam Bib pick-up was more time-consuming than smaller marathons. I stayed near Grant Park, so I had to take the train to McCormick Place. In total, I'd say it took about 2 hours roundtrip. Overall, it was a well-organized expo and race day, so you'll have a blast!
      Hoping to eventually run all of the majors, but I'm prioritizing Boston; having run 3:06 twice in the past six weeks, with a favorable course, I'm hoping to run closer to 3 hours on Sunday to give myself a ~4-minute buffer to have a realistic chance of qualifying.
      Thanks for the well wishes!

    best of luck for your training. I find it somewhat strange, to run only 3 times per week in preparing for a marathon. Back in the days, when i was racing, i ran 5 or 6 times perweek pretty much year round.
    Now i don`t train i just run. Maybe i will do another race, maybe i won`t. So my running goals are simple...run today to prepare for tomorrows run

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  Місяць тому

      I'm not training to race though, so three times a week works for me. I also work full-time, commute to and from work and have other commitments, as well as trying to fit in cross training and Physio workouts as well. So realistically I'm not able to run more than that a week. It would be nice to add a day so four times a week, but it needs to be sustainable for my lifestyle long-term. If I had more free time I would like to run five times a week. Do you now run for leisure?

      @@YuennyLam In the 80th and 90th i was a typical middle aged runner with time goals all the time. Now i am older, retired since 2018 and just run, most of the runs without any stopwatch, haven`t done r run with a bib in many years, include lots of walking into my runs and the joy of my mind, the health od my body and the peace of my soul.
      I fully understand the problems with work, social life and many commitments, but i find it very dificult to stay injury free, beat the cutoff and have some kind of fun during the marathon with just 3 runs per week
      I can`t say anything about strength training or cross training. I never did that, neither have i had any treatment by a physio or a sports massage, i just run

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  Місяць тому

      @justanoldfashionedrunner605 I think everyone is a bit different and every body reacts differently to exercises. I don't think it is one-size-fits-all and as mentioned, life commitments limit my free time to train in the week. My social life is minimal, so it's not that I choose to have all this "fun" instead of going out for a run. Running isn't just life either. There's so much to learn and understand in this world, which I will always try and make time for. Running is one of my interests, but not my whole life. For me, it's about finding the right balance 😊
      I also suffer from insomnia, so some days or even weeks, just trying to have a normal day going to work and coming home, is absolutely exhausting for me. There are many factors why I (or others) don't just run every day.

      @@YuennyLam oh please, do not misunderstand. my comment. Yes absolutely, every person is different and there are many ways to run.
      You don`t have to defend your choices, i was not trying to attack you or your decisions. All i wanted to say was, after all the tough times you went through to get your first marathon done, there might be an easier way to get a joyful experience in Chicago, for example repacing the cross training with another easy one hour run, or cut one strength training in half and combine the remaining half with a 45 minute easy run.....many options

      Thanks for the suggestion. I would really like to add another run to my week. I do believe it will make a huge difference and also help me run a bit faster over time. I do understand three times a week isn't that ideal. I've had someone else suggest adding at least another run a week. I just need to figure out how I can fit that in. I do appreciate your advice based on your experience 😊 I'm still very new to running Marathons and I'm sure each time I run one I will learn something valuable. I know you don't race anymore or take part in events. Did you say you still run almost every day?
