  • Here are five things I've learnt training and running my first ever Marathon. Some of them I wish I knew as a beginner runner or acted on sooner, which could've prevented my running injuries.

Great tips! Sleep/recovery is definitely the best tip for running in general. S&C is something I've recently started doing more and it just makes such a big difference. I would sacrifice going for a run and do S&C instead, if I didn't have time for both. Hope your running is going well =D

I really underestimated the importance of S&C and glad you're feeling the benefits of doing them. It's definitely worth it. I prefer running over S&C, but I try to do it at least once a week. I really don't want to be in pain again. Training isn't so intense at the moment, thanks, and I'm enjoying the structure again. Hope your running is going well too 😊

Absolutely agree with all these tips. I would add 2 more. #6 Practice nutrition on all your long runs - find out what works for you. #7 Practice in your race day gear - see what rubs and sort it out. Upset stomach and chaffing are your nemesis on race day! 👍

Very valid points. One of my sports bras was chafing me loads on a long run, so testing your gear out is a "must". I'm going to have to test out my running belt on long runs, as Chicago Marathon doesn't allow hydration vests, which is what I've been training in and used during my first Marathon. How do you carry your fuel on long runs?

@@YuennyLam I use a hydration vest. It's just really convenient and comfortable. I have a belt for shorter runs, but I don't think I could fit a marathon load of gels/phone/keys/etc in it.

@@tonymayall5039 I feel the same and also have a smaller belt for when I only need keys and my phone. I'm going to struggle with just a belt in Chicago, but I'll have to make it work somehow 😕
