  • This week I am running a bit again, but it has given me a new goal for Marathon race day. The various pains and injuries aren't looking too positive at the moment, but I am still hopeful something good will happen.

    You're my inspiration to continue running and not quitting, regardless of time and speed. You finishing the marathon means hundreds more will finish because of your videos.

    Injuries can be so frustrating, even if it’s just a niggle that ruins your enjoyment. Wishing you the best in the time leading up to the marathon!

      It is SO frustrating! And it makes me feel so disappointed 😞 I'll learn from all of this though and become a better runner in the future 🤞

    Way to go Yuenny. As a constantly injured runner, I can't stress how important patience is. I know this because I have none... :) In fact, as I'm just 7 weeks back in after rehabbing from cardiac surgery, I've met the usual schedule and am, of course, now injured. ITB issue for which I'm getting physio and am able to run still... for the moment. Seriously, we all wish you the very best and I understand and admire the perserverance. If not this marathon, then the next one!

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  6 місяців тому +1

      Sounds like you've been through some difficult situations yourself. I hope you're recovering well from your surgery and well done for getting back into running. I hope the physio is helping the ITB issue. I think my knee pain is due to that but not being a professional, I don't want to self-diagnose and assume, but I am doing workouts that may help the ITB. Even if it isn't that then it's still good to do as precaution or prevention. Thank you for the kind message. I'll do my best to run this Marathon, but like you said, if not this one then there will be a next one 😊

    Hey Yuenny, hope you have been giving your injury time to recover and to rest? Rest and recovery is important. All the best and I enjoy your uploads of your runs especially through the beautiful nature!

      I have been resting as much as I can. I have cut back a lot on running in the last few weeks. But because of that I don't think I still have the same level of fitness to run the Marathon 😞 Hence the new goal. Thanks for watching 😊 There are some pretty places around. Nice and flat too which makes it perfect for running.

    Well done. Sounds like the rest, recovery and strength training are starting to pay off. You are right, getting to the start line is a massive achievement awarded to very few people. Try to focus on the positives. It's hard at this point with just a few weeks left. I know every little niggle feels like it might end the journey, but stay calm and focused. You know your body. You just need to find the balance between listening to your body, and pushing through on the day. Don't get drawn in by the adrenaline or the crowds on the day. Run your own race as best you can. Whatever the outcome remember all the hours you have put in. You deserve to be there, take a moment to enjoy it. 👍

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  6 місяців тому

      Thank you! That's very kind of you. I will try to stay calm and not go off too fast. I know I'll be very nervous on the day as well. I'll do my best and see how far it takes me. If the pain is too much then I will be sensible about it. I have come a long way and I have learnt so much this time, which means I will hopefully go even further next time, now that I have a bit more knowledge 🤞 Less than two weeks as we speak 😬

    You're doing a great job. Elevate your leg and put an ice pack with a towel inbetween the pack and your skin, this should ease the pain and decrease the inflamation/injury

      @YuennyLam  6 місяців тому +1

      Thank you 😊 I have been doing that when I first noticed the injuries. It does really help and I think this is going to be my go-to method for any future pains I experience.

  • @cwschang

    Love your determination Yuenny. Definitely consider substituting some of your runs with low impact cross training such as elliptical or stationary bike. This will give your knees a chance to heal whilst maintaining your fitness. I was in exactly the same situation as you last year whilst training for a marathon. I would get pain in my knees during training. In the end, I pulled the plug on the marathon and am glad that I did as a subsequent MRI scan showed that I had a stress fracture. I ended up taking 6 months off running. At the end of the day, the most important thing to do is to listen to your body. I will be rooting for you!

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  6 місяців тому

      Thank you! 6 months off!? That's a long time but injuries need the time to heal. Good you made the right decision to not go ahead with the Marathon. Without knowing what my injuries are it's so hard to make any sort of decision at this stage. I'm worried that it's a stress fracture on my foot as well but I have no way of knowing until I'm seen by a Dr or physio. Thanks for sharing and hope you are all recovered and running again 😊 Did you cross train while recovering?

    • @cwschang
      @cwschang 6 місяців тому +1

      @@YuennyLam it was very tough mentally taking 6 months off but happily I have now started running again and have learnt a lot about my body in the process. My recovery consisted of plyometrics, strength training and low impact cardio - mostly elliptical and some swimming and stationary bike. If you are in any doubt as to whether it is a stress fracture, get a MRI done (Xray is often not sensitive enough). In my case, the MRI picked up a stress fracture which both my physio and chiro missed.

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  6 місяців тому +1

      @@cwschang I'm happy you're able to run again. It won't be easy for me to get an MRI. It's hard enough for those who need it for emergencies to get scanned, so it's unlikely I'll get an appointment unless it's urgent. Hope you're able to continue to run. It must've been really hard not running for so long 😞

      Thank you. Without knowing what's actually causing the pain it's hard to know what to do 😞 I will go use the bike a few more times this and next week. Hopefully it'll help. How's your new watch?

      @@YuennyLam I'm sure the bike will help =D fingers crossed the pain disappears soon. I'm sure it's frustrating not knowing exactly where the pain is coming from and what is causing it. The watch is good, thanks! Wondering if I should try to run my first 10k distance today or not! :D

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  6 місяців тому +1

      @@mikestevenson1334 Thank you. I'm really hoping the pain will be gone by next weekend 🤞 It's really hard to tell because it doesn't hurt unless I'm running. If you feel like you might be ready then go for it. Take it slow. You can aim for 10K or maybe aim for one hour of running and see how far it takes you. Then assess how you feel after an hour. Let me know how you get on. I'm glad you're liking the watch 😊

      @@YuennyLam I've started incorporating more strength work and I've noticed an improvement. I used to get some ITB, hip, knee pain the odd time. But now, they seem to have gone. My watch is suggesting an anaerobic workout today, so it might not hit the 10k! I'll let you know how it goes =D
