Thanks for the vid. I was born in Cairo at St. Mary's Hospital in 1950. My dad died there in 1986. I have watched many vids of Cairo and it is really depressing. I left southern Illinois in the 70s after serving 5 years in the Navy and moved to TN. After my dad passed in 1986 I moved my Mother to TN with me and haven't been backs since. Cairo's history is so sad. I loved growing up in Cairo and Mounds and knew so many great people. My Father owned two businesses in Cairo and Mounds and I remember in the 50s Cairo was a bustling place, especially on Friday night. The buildings my Father owned have been torn down and it is hard to recognize the streets now. Where are you from and why did you go to Cairo? just interested.
    Thanks

Thank you so much for watching. That is so interesting! It is such a shame what happened to the town. I am from Central Illinois and have always known about Cairo. Me and some friends were in a road trip to North Dakota, and we where heading to Nashville, made a whole day out of exploring Cairo. Such an interesting feel. I have never been to a place like it. A very eerie desolate feeling hits you walking around certain areas. I'm glad you moved out of there. TN is a great place! Thank you again!

Thank you so much!! So the bottom floor had 2 entrances. One was not blocked at all just opened. And the one I went through. Be very careful when going upstairs. There is rusted metal pipes an wiring sticking out from alot of places. Just walk slow :) The layout is pretty straight forward. The basement was also flooded so I wouldn't recommend that. It’s two miles from the start of the town’s grid road system. It also doesn’t look like there was a more practical way to put the road through based on the landform.
