You nailed it! Without nails. Joinery, when done correctly is as beautiful as it is functional. Nice work as usual. When your kids age to the point when the light bulb lights on how the world works, they will really appreciate the custom gifts from the heart you made for them. A bonus will be that their pop is a really fine craftsman.
there is nothing more gratifying than building your own stuff. I made a simple planter box and while it looks ugly and not professional I smile every time I look at it.
The Samurai Carpenter reminds me of Growing up as a kid watching The Woodwrights's shop and Roy Underhill. The old world craftsmanship and great pride of workmanship that was put into every day items that the industrial age will never replicate.
your life has been very blessed... your wife and children make you shine... very happy for your success as a carpenter and husband/father... keep up the amazing work... your family will grow to praise you in years to come...
No words for this. I'm 15 right now, planning on buying my first japenese saw, you inspired me to make stuff. And I've got a small workshop full of really good tools (DeWalt, Bosch Professional (the expensive blue ones)), because my dad is a woodworker, so I'm gonna make even more due to this inspiration. And I'm getting my own tool now (chisels, saws)
So number one, I agree that is a pretty bomb bunk bed. Two I'm actually pretty jealous of what you put together. A bunk bed is actually what got into carpentry and woodworking. One day the 3 and 7 year old of mine broke their bed and I was left with two choices. One, buy a new bed; or two, use my skills and tools I had available to make them one so this video really speaks to me. Three, I'm starting to wonder if immediately building a fort is the first thing every kid does, mine did the same thing when I put theirs together. Much respect, really love your work.
Dude. That is so wicked cool. I built my son's crib from Red Oak and Walnut and it was one of the most gratifying things I've ever done. Now that he's almost big enough for a real bed its time to make it happen! Thanks for the inspiration!
Love your work. You have a style that is classy and unique with so many different personal touches. Since I haven't commented before, I'll just get it all out! I also like the fact that your shop isn't "perfect" all the time like some of the more snobby youtubers. Shops are meant to be used and the products you make are what need to be nice. Last, I really appreciate your testimony, humbleness and unfiltered personality. Keep it up, broski!
Every time a tree is cut down, the world becomes a sadder place. But I firmly believe that every time we cut a piece of timber with good intentions, some of that sadness disappears. So much happiness here man. So many memories - my dad built this - my grand dad built this - my great grand dad built this. Thanks for sharing.
I am currently building a loft bed with desk underneath for my son. After watching your video mine is kind of like the model T and yours is the 2030 luxury car. Wow your skill and available time are very impressive. Great build thanks for sharing.
Been out of the country and waiting to watch this. Good god man, seriously inspiring. Fantastic design and ability to breakdown, just a gorgeous piece.
For some time now I have been investigating the carpentry, until I found your videos very didactic and I started a project at home, although I do not have many tools like you, I have managed to finish small jobs, I also admire the Japanese culture, I actually work with Japanese in Aoki machines, but my free time I dedicate to this art, and I see that you are very good, greetings.
Jesse that's a great design. I've built the furniture for my kids rooms as well. super fulfilling, and motivating because they keep asking when the next piece will be done. well done sir.
What kid wouldn't love that bed, some big kids too! Beautifully made and a great design. This is going to sound kind of weird but watching you using chisels is pretty therapeutic, it's very obvious you love what you do, I'm guessing that's why you do it so well! cheers tony
I made a Frank Howarth-inspired crib for my twin baby boys and thought it looked real nice... until I watched this video. Your design, build quality and attention to detail really make this an exceptional piece of furniture. Great job.
You are such an artist. this skill started in China, developed in Japan, and now continue in western countries. This kind of skill should never be given up. Thank you!
Once again, beautiful work and craft. And, the lovely wood you have access to. I really envy your access to that wood. Keep up all the inspirational videos. Thank you.
I MADE A LOFT AND BUNK BED, NINJA style (trap doors, hidden compartments, the works) - my boys lost their dang minds when they got it and 3 months later, they still finding little secrets I built into the bad - BUT what I am most proud of... its not against a wall so you have to break your back to put on a dang bed cover at the far corners.
you are right, its way awesome, in fact it goes way beyond awesome....its mega mega awesome, love the design, love the joinery, love the end result....when you started to put the finish on and that wood sprang to life, what a way to finish it off....thank you for sharing...
as a carpenter i can only say: awesome work! have i seen it right, the ladder is not attached to the bed and only held by gravity? if so there is a good chance for bloody noses, little broken fingers and knocked out teeth. best regards from germany!
Sammy I was gonna rib you and ask if I saw a Made in China sticker fly off of the frame as you were assembling but the ending was just too awesome! Thanks for sharing it! I've been debating on whether or not to make one for my boys or not, so I'll probably be grabbing your plans within a month. Thanks again for sharing! Its things like these my man... Its things like these.
great build. i'm about to build a raised bed and this provides plenty of inspiration! fantastic joinery that I can only hope to emulate. keep up the great work
Another inspirational video! I'm stoked that you are selling the plans for it, as I will purchase them soon. right after I build the workbench that I bought the plans for, and haven't been able to pull the trigger on due to a bad injury at work, but I will! your work is stellar! I wished I could apprentice with you. maybe I can shake your hand and properly thank you for inspiring me to continue with my goals...

Your son saying he loves it. For us Dads that's what's it's all about. Great job.

I like how you had your son help you at the end. very touching.
Ahh man. That's what I've been missing. A sweet samurai build. Great stuff as always, man! Always mind blowing.
Beautiful work! Says a lot about your love for woodworking and your kids.
No words for this. I'm 15 right now, planning on buying my first japenese saw, you inspired me to make stuff. Biem Leichel that's awesome Biem. It's always great to see young people understand the importance of developing craftsmanship.

Amazing look. What a beautiful build.
as a carpenter i can only say: awesome work!
have i seen it right, the ladder is not attached to the bed and only held by gravity? if so there is a good chance for bloody noses, little broken fingers and knocked out teeth.
best regards from germany!
i think it's tied down at the top from what i see from the still shots.
appears to be wedge behind top of ladder. should be secure enough for small children.
Connor W 5:41 it seems that it is only held by gravity
Looks like Samurai added small hooks, they are visible in the still shots at the end.
The next shot shows an added cleat to hook over the bed rail.
perfect. so balance. terrific work and design
Great bed. Children will be happy. Like!
Genuinely beautiful !
I love to watch your build videos. Beautiful craftsmanship. Well done, sir.
