About the formation of the moon, there is a theory that says that there was a 2nd moon formed but its orbit was unstable and it fell onto the bigger moon. Due to the relative low speeds involved (being in the same orbit and all), it didn't cause an impact crater or surface melting but instead just piled up into a mountain range. This explains why our moon is lopsided and has mountains on the far side and flatness on the near side. Perhaps Minmus is like that smaller moon, but instead of falling back to Kerbin or Mun, it got flung into a higher orbit.

It is in my belief that minmus is a captured *moon from jool. Because of course being flung via gravity assist. *could just be anything near jool's orbit.
Scott Manley I think they are in the perfect place for that design. It's the only spot that provides symmetry and variety of orientation that isn't on an important lift or control surface. But, it seems like at least one of the panels (18:36) is not in line with the center line of the intake bodies, which is what I think the original person was bemoaning.
The first stage of your 3-meter rocket reminded me of the Russian attempt to go to the moon with their N1 rocket. They, too, didn't have the ability to build large rocket engines, so they put 30 NK-15 rocket engines on the bottom of their first stage. The result? -- The largest man-made non-nuclear explosion in human history.

Scott Manley, you should talk about what would happen if the moon was hit by an asteroid breaking it into a few big pieces with lots of small pieces etc. Some people say that it would pull itself back together due to its own gravitational pull or it would stay apart and what not.
If Ceres hit the moon it would form a debris disc and eventually collect back into a moon, of course it would also drop a lot of debris on the earth, so we wouldn't get to watch it happening.

I would've had to start out BIG, then see how much fuel i had left, then go smaller and smaller until the design of the SSTO was just right. He should have landed on one of the poles, that way you are never blocked from the power satellite by minmus,and you have nearly constant power, except when the satellite is behind the earth
Colson Prather if he did, then it would mean more Δv requirements for any craft that might want to refuel there. I mean, he basically sending an SSTO there, and we both know you can't really sneak in extra fuel tank like you would in a rocket.

I do wonder how they create the liquid fuel. Is it entirely hydrogen alone? The oxidizer would be easy because you can liquefy oxygen just by using the ambient night time temperature on the body, which I surmise is relatively similar to our own moon. I could be wrong on that. Science was an interest in school and still is to this day, but a lot of it is kind of out of my conceptual range. I took four trips through basic college algebra before I finally passed it and twice through to get through the next level up. I admire anyone who can understand and personalize it. My nephew thought of becoming an aerospace architect before he found his true love in medicine. He is now an orthopedic surgeon in Idaho. He got straight A's in physics, thanks to the help of his then wife, all the way through when he changed majors. He used to do my 11th grade algebra problems in his head when he was still in the seventh grade.

But I've been mucking around with it and it works perfect for getting to ~ 23km without burning any internal fuel/oxidizer.. I would love to see more plot development, like Bob stealing Jeb's snacks, and hiding them somewhere on the Mun. Rumors about Bill secretly dating Bob's sister, so they can't be in the same spacecraft together. Things like that made laugh out loud. So please keep all 3 elements, but ramp up the 3rd a bit :)

8:05 Actually an impact test that has been performed fairly recently, 2 years or so ago, proved that at least some parts of the Moon, like deep shaded craters, contain twice the amount of moisture that is found in Sahara, in form of ice water.

Yes, Minmustationary orbit is about 357km so you can put a power sat there if landing it proves too hard, to be honest, my ability to produce fuel outstrips my needs right now.

Strapping a girder to the trail is quite realistic. The short runway package for many commercial airliners have a ski that deploys at the tail cone to prevent tail contact given the relatively extreme rotation angle required in some take off regimes.
A lot of airliners run sort of "bumpers" on the tail-strike area as a matter of routine. Tail-strikes are very common mistakes, though as long as they're repaired properly nothing bad'll happen. Not repaired properly and...well...you end-up with another China Airlines 611.
***** I honestly don't know how Tailstrikes happen anymore on a standard take off. All modern PFDs have a clear indication of the pitch angle not to exceed. As long as you enter all your pre-flight data correctly it should be fine. Then again, Indonesian pilots.... yea.....
***** Your logic defies the entire safety culture of the global airline industry. When an airplane tail strikes its not a freak accident, its a human error. The only aircraft that are typically at risk of tail strike when being operated correctly are short take off aircraft who need to pitch up more than normal, and these people are very well trained. Like I said, Indonesian pilots, not well trained, bad safety culture. Thats not murphy's law, thats a clearly definable absence of training and standards.
Scott, you might want to take a look at the HotRockets plugin/mod. It gives all the stock engines (exept the Rapier) new and fancy engine exhaust particles. I don't know if it takes much RAM but it works fine for me. And certainly looks gorgeous (if a little unrealistic). IMPORTANT: It doesn't add any new parts!
It might eliminate confusion if you refer to Luna and Mun for Terra's and Kerbin's primary moon respectively. "The moon" keeps getting you into trouble. "A transfer burn to Mun orbit" specifies the body you're burning to, whereas "a transfer burn to the moon" could refer to either Mun or Minmus.
@1:20 It's a shame that the symbol you referring to has still such negative impact even 60 years after date, while the symbol is filled with ancient history and mystery. But this is offtopic, thanks for sharing once again!
One thing you can do to make positioning landing gears less painful is lock the suspension on the outside legs, that way the central legs will just adjust as necessary.
The refinery, fully deployed and the bottom facing us looks like some kind of majestic space butterfly or space moth that evolved to blend in with outer space, but retained the markings that make it look like it has a face on its wings. So yeah, that's complicated and this video is practically ancient by Internet standards, but I'd feel some kind of regret if I didn't post my thoughts.
The jokes are strong with this episode. Also, I think you should add an orbital fuel storage and STO tanker so that ships can refuel without having to land and take off again.
my theory forr minmus having ice is that its core is liquid nitrogen witch will cool down its inner crust and this causes the once ocens of minmus to freeze
I choose to believe that the moon was previously Minerva's moon, that the earth captured the orbit of 50,000 years ago when Minerva was destroyed. Great book series, highly recommended if you've not read it - which I doubt.
Scott, you should consider adding the Procedural Wings mod. If you don't know about it it lets you change the size/shape/angle of the wings. It's a cool mod but I don't know how Ferrum would react to it.

I flew my spaceplane to the Mun instead. Unfortunately something went wrong, and while attempting to dock to refuel it, all the fuel tanks on my refueling craft spontaneously exploded. No seriously, I was around 50 meters away from the plane and suddenly KABLOOEY!
the whole reason for that is to the ships to be able to refuel while halfway-anywhere. It will make it possible to build smaller ships with enough fuel to land on minmus, refuel, and keep travelling to wherever it's going

You can use "The Klaw" on a rover with a big fuel tank to operate like a refueller. Just bump into the crafts to unfuel/refuel.

Also, I think you should add an orbital fuel storage and STO tanker so that ships can refuel without having to land and take off again.

my theory forr minmus having ice is that its core is liquid nitrogen witch will cool down its inner crust and this causes the once ocens of minmus to freeze
Ice could be in the shady spots, like on Mercury.

Scott, you should consider adding the Procedural Wings mod. If you don't know about it it lets you change the size/shape/angle of the wings. It's a cool mod but I don't know how Ferrum would react to it.

I think you're confusing tritium with Helium 3, but other than that, yes you can.
I flew my spaceplane to the Mun instead. Unfortunately something went wrong, and while attempting to dock to refuel it, all the fuel tanks on my refueling craft spontaneously exploded.

the whole reason for that is to the ships to be able to refuel while halfway-anywhere. It will make it possible to build smaller ships with enough fuel to land on minmus, refuel, and keep travelling to wherever it's going

Very clever thinking there, Scott. Very impressive way to stuff a Minmus base into a rocket! But this refinery... does this make Kethane redundant? Being able to refine liquid fuel and other resources.
