William G. Steward used to scare the hell out of me when I watched this show as a teenager. He reminded me of strict science/maths teacher who was so unforgiving and frowned upon failure and stood for no nonsense. But watching him now, he was actually just the perfect quiz master and a gentleman.

Daphne put up this fantastic performance in early 2000, during series 28 of Fifteen to One. However, she actually lost in the Grand Final to Dag Griffiths - and in fact, it wasn't until two series later, in early 2001, that she became series champion for the first time. She did defend her title after that, though.

Eric Matthews must surely rank as THE most unlucky contestant in 15-to-1 history, coming runner-up TWICE to Daphne Fowler (and still standing at the end both times)! In 2002, Eric would finally (and IMO deservedly) taste gameshow victory when he won an episode of The Weakest Link, having been the strongest player overall and the best player in 4 out of 7 elimination rounds, so he clearly wasn't a "bad" quizzer - he was just very unfortunate coming up against Daphne Fowler twice...
Saw the Swedish version of 15-to-1 tonight, not a patch on the Englih version, and as if they could ever have anyone as good as Daphne? Daphne's quiz game is so tight that it's restricting blood flow to her massive brain, not that it hampers her responses.
You can't really take anything away from her, she's incredible. I got about half the answers myself which most people would consider to be good but really I'm a fool in comparison to Daphne.
I read that she stuggled with sleeping in beds other than her own and always did rubbish if she went to London for filming the night before cos she couldn't sleep. She traveled to London on the morning of shooting a few years later and nailed it.

I find that annoying! What is the point in competing if you're going to be sorry for winning! But I love her in all other respects- she seems like a really nice person. Do you watch Eggheads? She's been having a bad time of it lately- I feel very sorry for her.
