Also the legendary Fred Dinenage was host and quiz master on Gambit still on in the early eighties. Interestingly, there was a middle aged guy who played a Hammond organ, can't quite remember but it could have been John Benson but don't quote me on that!
Eggheads' Daphne Fowler - Sale of the Century - 1983 0502am 29.6.23 is she still featured on eggheads? i wouldn't know as i only see it fleetingly these days. i know ch5 and the BBc seem to be airing the show now - which is odd. and the team is gradually morphing into a completely different set-up. i think big chris is still there... as for daphne i think the only show she didnt feature on is bullseye... p.s oh she has - errr featured on bullseye. strange... maybe she missed out on win lose or draw???
I can image Nicholas Parsons getting into that Mini, driving it around wrecklessly, & about to smash the door off. Like that nightmare sequence he did on that Renault 5 ad.
Like most East Anglian ale, water! I know I live here with the ditch water lol. Love the show though, worked with a former Anglia TV stage hand who became a train driver after being made redundant when ITV and Tessa Jowell stuffed those good old regional stations, for the crap we have now.
20:14: Leslie you came up against two very bright contestants and as you're particularly dim and failed your 11+ you struggled in this exalted company..
In today's money the Chinese rug is worth £3,284. Tv and video worth £3,132. today. glassware £2,239 today. Canada holiday £3,756. today. Some decent prizes on that show
Think Leslie's given up!?Nice to let them keep the prizes and money they won at the end instead of taking it all off them like what they do these days...
Just seen a clip of Daphne on Bullseye from 1982!🤣 You know it has been a long winter when you start clicking on shite quiz shows from the early 1980s!

Eggheads' Daphne Fowler - Sale of the Century - 1983 0445am 29.6.23 as regional tv is sadly nigh on defunkt i wondered if Anglia tv is 1: still in existence 2: still got it's tin foil knight on horseback? yeah, i know it's not a tin foil sculpture per se but it used to make me laugh when i was a child to see such a thing ie: a tin foil knight atop a potters wheel rotating.. ummmm. ok i had a childhood invested with lack.... i aint from east anglia so aint been able to sample tin foil life.

1983, but FIRMLY rooted in the 70s.
Well, it was the previous decade. Stupid comment.
"I know nothing about mathematics, but is the answer 4.6654%?"
"Well yes Daphne, you are absolutely correct!"
Wow! At age 63, this brings back memories. I used to call this how 'a pox on civilization' and I don't think I was far wrong!
Pah, humbug!
"An atom!!!" exclaims Nick. That woke up all the old dears in the audience, bless them.
thanks for finding this classic tv show used to watch wonderful memories with nicholas parsons and legendary john benson
Yes and don't forget the marvellous Peter Fenn..
@@stevebbuk Do you remember John Benson and Peter Fenn on Gambit too?

people try for years to get on a show but others manage to get on every show going
Joke Init I've applied for alsorts never been picked once not even an audition
On Sundays I think. All seems so innocent ! The whole family watched or Dad snoozed !
Even Daphne had caught the Diana style clothes bug !!
Daphne seems to have been on just about every quiz show going at the time.

Smart lady, even smarter as she got older👍
A legend in action.
Great to look back on the prizes esp the car!
I can image Nicholas Parsons getting into that Mini, driving it around wrecklessly, & about to smash the door off. Like that nightmare sequence he did on that Renault 5 ad.
That's numberwang!
brilliant from daphne and beautiful too
The questions are so easy 😂
That was brilliant 😂
Good on you Daphne.
R.I.P. Nicholas Parsons
Knock knock..
Wow a mini.
But where is it now!
Nicholas Parsons didn't tell us, but the correct answer to that Adam's ale question was 'Water'.
Like most East Anglian ale, water! I know I live here with the ditch water lol. Love the show though, worked with a former Anglia TV stage hand who became a train driver after being made redundant when ITV and Tessa Jowell stuffed those good old regional stations, for the crap we have now.
22:52 - (thinking) Finish the question, PLEASE!!!
Well done Daphne
she really is good no wonder they made her an egghead
Daphne is very good, shame she still isn't on Eggheads
@12:57 what was that 4 second rule? He answered in under 4 seconds.
Did l just clock Anneka Rice displaying the portable tv ?
'You can die in style.'

Funny that they would have a contestant named Peter Smith, the same name of the announcer of the Australian edition of the show.
Nice

Just a minute...oh Nicholas, you sound a little patronizing
set up or what
This game goes by fast....I get lost real easily.
Yes wouldn't it have been calmer had they kept the camera focussed on the contestants?
It’s super fast.
The contestants were clever
I bet daphne knew 🤣🤣
Most annoying buzzer sound!
The buzzer noise was also used on Gambit which was also made by Anglia Television.

I believe Anglia is like all the other former ITV regions in England and Wales, now just ITV plc.

Really? An absolute gentleman in fact. Just look what we have now.
