- Paying for online has been something console gamers have had to put up with for quite some time. Multiplayer should be free and the subscriptions do nothing but prevent you from playing the online portion of the games you already own. This practice is nothing more than a cash grab for money and should not be defended by Fanboys. Let me know your thoughts on this.

He's the one who opened my eyes to how the price of multiplayer is already included in the game, and their live service is literally a paywall to block services that are free on PC. I used to be a hard Micro$oft fanboy but think about this. If their live service is for better servers, why is that when just say a Call of Duty server is down, Xbox Live is still up? You can still play other online games, so it isn't Micro$oft servers that you are using. They also use Skype for chat and charge for it, but it is free everywhere else. These companies count on fanboys to preach justification so they can charge the blind. Wake up people, use the organ between your ears and think for yourself! Just to throw salt on wounds, PC games are WAY CHEAP too!

Worst christmas ever. My dad got me a PS4 with Star Wars Battlefront and when i tried to play online it said i need to pay 10 dollars with was the money my family didn't have because of all the presents for me my brother and the rest of my family. I was only 9 at the time so i didn't take it well :,(

Its horrendous that we're even paying at all for multiplayer functions, especially when:
1.) We already paid the full price of the game. Why the hell am I force to pay extra for a feature that should be free especially when its already built into the base game? Its an anticonsumer practice that limits the freedom of the player and lessens the value of the purchase for those who have no interest in "mah yearly subscription, dur hur!".
2.) We're already paying the internet to gain access to online features in the first place. If I'm force to shell out extra cash for such things, then that game's multiplayer is dead to me and I won't touch any multiplayer titles afterwards.
Games like Splatoon main essence is its online, and once its locked behind a paywall, its accessibility comes to a screeching halt and no longer an enjoyable past time because it now demands your money. Even though we already paid for it. Its not that I can't avoid the online subscriptions. Its that I'm appalled and extremely disgusted that such a anti-consumer practice is even acceptable within the gaming community. I can't believe how rapidly gaming is falling: each generation greed takes over more and more. Its no longer about delivering a fun experience anymore. Its all about those pathetic green toilet papers that these companies are obsessively nutting over for. I wish we can boycott these discriminating practices, but unfortunately things aren't looking very promising considering how many players were mindlessly leeched into their trap. Why the public didn't express outrage to such obvious scams is beyond me.

I wouldn't complain about the Splatoon thing. Nintendo has always been great, and it isn't a bad step to making users pay for online services. At least they're WAY more affordable than PlayStation, and I'm glad for that.

That is NOT a good move. By locking the multiplayer behind a paywall, you not only restrict the player from experiencing a particular mode of the game, but making it so that comsumers are paying their hard earn money for a fully released product that doesn't even offer its most important centerpiece unless they pay an extra fee. Is holding certain parts of the game for ransom really what gaming should be? Limiting one's right to access a mode unless they pay a fine? That's nothing to take lightly. That's called being anticonsumer. Its plain as day.
There are absolutely ZERO benefits to locking away online multiplayer behind an artificial paywall, except for the sole purpose of spoiling the company with more cash in exchange for the rest of the game. Multiplayer is a mode that has no business being held hostage. I don't give a hoot if the service is just $20. I am NOT supporting this scam. Simple as that.

2) PS Plus Premium - Enables players to get the so called premium features like "FREE" games every month, online storage, blah blah blah.

I love my PS4 and actually tend to like the community better in most games on console but the reality is we are being charged for something that should be free, and multiplayer being free on PC in addition to modding support in many games gives it a significant advantage. I own a PS4 and PC and like both but for price and freedom of customization reasons PC has the upper hand these days.
The goal is to remove ownership completely.
Remove the rights of ownership and charge subscription to play the game- using the disc you paid $60 for.....

Don't get me mistaken, I had a PS3 during the 7th gen and loved it, but it really isn't a somehow, since at launch it was god damn $500, an incredibly foreign infrastructure to develop for, no headphone support, (ever) and the launch titles weren't very good. It started to shift near the end in favor of Sony, but it was too late. The exact opposite happened to PS4 to Xbox One, but you can look into that.
I honestly don't think the ps3 did better than the ps4 and I've never had a ps3 so I really can't say much but I have a ps4 and I have to say it's a damn good gaming console.

Reason 1: PC platform offers alternatives, introducing market competition. GOG.com is a game client exactly like steam. If steam starts charging, people will just move. Others may even just start their own clients because it's really anyone's right to start a business on the internet.
Reason 2: Steam makes more then enough money already since people buy games directly from their client. When you pay for a game on steam, a really good chunk of the money goes to Steam itself. (This is why a lot of markets exist exclusively for indie titles, because this practice is financially pretty hard on them)
it will never happen because the pc is an open platform. you could download different stores or even install a completely different system (linux) once windows would start to charge. they know its a suicide mission to try something like this on an open platform
Microsoft almost did this on PC and failed super badly that GFWL DRM is no longer a thing so if valve did that same thing they would lose out Alot of people.

I remember when I switched from 360 to PS3, the main reasons for doing so were the fact I didn't need "PS+" to access the online component of games I already paid for and the blu-ray player which at the time was new. I used to play on PC too, which I'll be switching back to soon enough.
The "free" games you mentioned piss me off too. As soon as the subscription ends the games are locked again. Completely anti-consumer.

Also as he said but didnt elaborate the PS3 PS+ games where of MUCH higher quality than the PS4 ones. Why is that? Easy because the games WHERE the reason you got PS+. So the games had to be quality in order for anyone to even debate getting PS+. Now you get PS+ because they hold anywhere from 50 to 100% of your game hostage unless you pay them.

Just bought a game that's ONLY MULTILAYER, and you need a friend with another controller to sit next to you, if you don't wanna join online matches. But then my ps plus runs out, and I need it to join online matches.. otherwise there is LITERALLY NO GAME, the game is entirely multiplayer, it's a fighting game.. this is fucking ridiculous.

I agree with literally EVERYTHING you said. Having to pay JUST to unlock the online multiplayer portion of a game that you already payed for is rediculous. The "free" games with these memberships are NOT free. You are paying for the membership, so it isn't free at all.
When sony announced ps4 charging for online, my friend defended them about having better stable servers. It just sad how blind people are to it just being money grab for minimal services.

Nintendo was forced to shut down both their Wii and DS internet services due to unfruitful expenses for server hosting. Hopefully this cost will prolong the Switch's internet server lifespan if Nintendo is ever to release another golden console years later.

There is a difference between nintendo and xbox/ps and that is nintendo makes a TON of there own games and that $20 is actually going towards something and not just in there pockets (I still don’t find it ok)
The games aren’t even free, it’s just “borrowing” them, when your subscription expires/finishes the games won’t work and will ask you to subscribe again in order to keep playing. I experienced this when I had PS Plus on my PS3.
+Red Forman That depends on the type of game (at least in the case of XBL). IIRC, Xbox360 Games with Gold remain fully playable when your membership expires, but the Xbox One games don't.

Checking in from 2023 just after Sony has raised their online price from $60 to $80. I suspect this will only get worse in the future.
The only ONLY reason I could see them disabling online and putting it behind a paywall would be to cover the costs of maintaining security and cheat protection updates to the console that would apply to all applications/games that connect online. But we know that’s not a motivation as free games and apps can connect online. They are just arbitrarily disabling the network card that connects to a network I already paid for and putting it behind a paywall. Only Microsoft could have conceived of this and the rest follow.
Microsoft tried to do this same thing in the 90’s when Netscape and Internet explorer were battling it out. They wanted the monopoly on the web and would have locked it behind a paywall if the hackers hadn’t fought back with open source.

It still works. Basically, you create a new psn account every 2 days and activate the 2 day trial of ps+. You make your main account primary on the ps4 so that all data and games are shared between all accounts. Which means if the sub account you created has ps+, your main account will as well. When the sub account ps+ expires, you just make a new one over and over. Although I have heard that you can only do this 7 times, I'm still able to do it after months. I would just recommend not doing this often, and only do it every other month, since PlayStation does track this stuff. Been doing this for years and haven't been banned once.

I'm fine with PSPLUS and XBOX Live if they're optional. With the ps3 you could play the multiplayer all you wanted, but to get free deals and stuff like that you had to have PSPLUS. 1) split screen couch gaming (which is practically non existant today because of greed in my opinion)

Not to mention the VAST library of emulators, that make past game's available on one device, giving it far better ease of use. You can play super mario bros wii, then jump right into portal 2 without a problem on PC.
Ease of use? Once the controllers are hooked up to the pc you are done, and this doesn't have to be done every single time you want to play co-op.
